  • So many people get lost in patterns and counting and they forget to flow and have fun. Carenza is an expression. It's like shadowboxing its where you learn about yourself and your abilities. It's also where you try new things and play around. You can even see here that GM Oliver messes up as he is flowing. Carenza is a great practice. I hope you include it in your training.
For more videos like this, we have put together an online course with GM Oliver Pintados learn more about it here: budobrothers.t...

If you dig deeper, historically, FMA Kali was hidden in plain sight in Filipino cultural dances and children games when the Spanish colonizers banned the carrying and practice of blade fighting with penalty of imprisonment and death. You're partly correct in saying its a dance....a deadly dance.🙂

One of the easiest ways to do Carranza versus do have a knowledge of basic striking and blocking patterns. Once you have that memorized put together when I called sets. The sets involve three movements comprised of blocking and strikingThe rhythms my set up look something like this
      BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK
      BLOCK BLOCK STRIKE
      BLOCK STRKE BLOCK
      BLOCK STRIKE STRIKE
      STRIKE STRIKE STRIKE
      STRIK BLOCK STRIKE
      STRIKE BLOCK BLOCK
      BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK
The blocks can range anywhere in your particular blocking system whether they be umbrella blocks low blocks in my system we have“ for walls locking system“. Striking can be any of the strikesContained in your particular FMA system whether they be Redondo strikes, Avanico strikes, Floretta strikes, or stabs.
This method allows me to use my imagination continuously and prevents me from mindlessly copying someone else’s flow and trying to imitate that. Furthermore it allows me the freedom to create endlessly combinations that I feel comfortable doing with my level of skillAttitude and enthusiasm for that particular practice session. What’s good about this method also is that I can alter the speed or to the power and the flow of how I perform the movements. Like I said in an earlier post I don’t think anyone can really teach you how to do Kerenza you have to discover your own method yourself

Carenza Is nice to look at, but I don’t think it can really be Taught. It can be demonstrated like it’s being demonstrated here but in order for one to actually do it, you have to get out there yourself an experiment. If you’re not used to moving with the stick it’s going to be awkward at first, depending on your knowledge of basic strikes counters re-counters Foot work and imagination. What I do in my Carranza is to do sets based on Abanico strikes sets based on umbrella blocking sets based on emphasizing Redondo strikes and sets based on thrusts. I usually do these things and such and three for easy application. I change of the rhythm

  • @raymar2535
    @raymar2535 Год назад

Back in 1963 I was learning a Arnis daily for 5 hours every day for 3 months. My instructor hit me with full force so I could feel the full force impact on my hands, no twirling because you loses grip in full force combat. I have bloody hands then callouses develop. If you get into a long slender 36 inches blade machete, you can not twirl the handle. I have seen real life machete fight it don't last long. It is almost like that Japanese sword fight, or like that gamecock fight with blade, bam, bam and it is over. On a real machete fight I would rather on defensive parry and slash and maintain, adjust stance to remain our of reach of blade, after parry counter slash and back off to adjust distance. If you try to black like that stick with your hand you will in trouble. Just my opinion. I am a black belt in Aikido and Mas Oyama Karate with training on Arnis and Nunchuk.

    • @TheSubwaysurfer

I think you have to be absolutely insane to find yourself in a machete versus machete confrontation. And what scenario does that even happen? Not to badmouth your instructor but I think it’s cruel An unreasonable punishment to be going out you hard hard hard all the time and practice possibly injuring your hands in the process. How in the world does such a cruel approach constitute effective learning? No doubt you can learn something like how to fight in survival mode but you can get seriously injured on the way to learning that

    • @jephilologist

😂 just a language thing. You don't have to be so anal about words. The meaning of "there is no block" is not that there's absolutely no blocking motions, but that defense and offense should be "one-tempo". Your block is also an attack, or forego a defensive reaction, preferring pre-emptive striking. There is a block, but that block should immediately disappear into a check and counter.
