@@photosonthebay9341 I definately agree with you about how it used to look years ago. Shortly after I went digital I bought some HDR software called Photomatrix. It was terrible, and the shots looked so false.
Well Done. I traditionally shoot with Sony full frame cameras (A7RII / A7IV / A7RIV). Last year I purchased the Sony A6700 (APSC) for my day hikes. I am using the Lightroom HDR feature, like you demonstrate, and getting great results. I do a five exposure bracket. With a tripod its really good. Even hand held the results are good. It really makes the APSC cameras using exposure bracketing competitive with a single shot full frame camera.
@@johncallery814 Thank you. Yes, the Sony sensors are fantastic, even the APSC sensors have very good dynamic range. The HDR function in Lightroom really helps get the best out of High Dynamic Range scenes very easy now. It’s nice to have a HDR option that gives a more natural look, compared to the old days of Photomatix 🫣.
Awesome video! So much helpful information for a novice in landscape photography. I haven’t yet taken two exposures as I wasn’t sure where to go with it after that. After watching this I can’t wait to give it a try. 😀
@@JB_inks Yes, tone mapping is a whole other conversation. I’m sure the ACR version of this HDR function still uses tone mapping in some way. But, it definitely does a better job of the tone mappped images Photomatix produced back when we only had SDR displays.
@@photosonthebay9341 lovely, it's been such a long time since I've messed with this feature I'll have to give it another go. Currently on holiday in Scotland so I'll try to do some nice exposure bracketed images and see how well they turn it, assuming the rain eventually stops lol
@@JB_inks Good luck, Scotland is beautiful. I’m sure you’ll get some epic shots. And definitely give the HDR function a try. It’s really good these days 👌🏼
Very interesting video Neil. Very informative. 👏
@@rogerhance5883 Thank you Roger. I was pleasantly surprised at how good HDR has become these days. 👌🏼

@@ultimuttdogs Thank you very much. Definitely give it a try with the piers. It works really well for under the pier shots. Enjoy and see you soon 😀
Great video mate thankyou 🤙
@@outdoormatt2177 Thanks mate. Works really well on our piers. 👌🏼
I think a lot of people confuse tone mapping with HDR. Tone mapping is what you do on an SDR display to take advantage of HDR images
