    Brilliant explanation. The only thing you missed is that many other high-bypass engines have a convergent inlet to maximize "ram intake" in order to slow the airflow down to Mach 0.5 when a jetliner is cruising at transonic speeds.

    With the sr71 the bypass wasn’t from the intake but it was from the 6th stage of the compressor directly to the afterburner
