I would add this, and it applies to any endeavor: if you find yourself wanting to do the activity non-stop, if it is challenging and rewarding when things work, if you are determined to solve problems in them, if in that activity you think, "ten more minutes" instead of, "ok, its time to eat," then you've found your calling. If not, it is a hobby, and you should enjoy that when you can, but pick something else to do for your career. Programming is my gift, my I've talked myself out of it by underestimating the potential and took other paths. But, when I am working on a program, I don't care about anything else. I want to learn what I missed when something doesn't go right. I want to enhance the GUI and take functionality and creativity to a ridiculous level. (And perhaps my career choice was right, because although I can imagine and implement features no one else thinks of, there are rarely employers who have patience for such expansive work.) The point is, I am driven. Even if I am brand new and failing miserably at a new technology or language. If you are not, these types of jobs are definitely NOT for you. Hitesh points this out, but to be more frank: first decide if you have the gift- and that comes from enjoyment and drive to do all you possibly can with what you know, or with what may limit you, until you can break through those barriers for absolute greatness!
