You mentioned you were going to do recirculating hot water system to have hot water in the bathroom on demand - have you got a video on that or planning to do so?
Thank you for clearing that up Jeff, like the content of the forever home and I have to say it’s in real good shape, block walls look great and that’s a good sign, looking for to more of these videos
Just a little tip on the concrete breaking. Once you have the saw cuts made, get your first piece of concrete out the way you did. Then, place a long (5’ +/-) pry bar under the edge of the next piece to be broken out with a chunk of concrete or block under the bar to use a fulcrum. As you pry up and apply pressure on the next piece of concrete to be broken, hit the concrete with your sledge hammer. The concrete usually cracks very easy. Then you can pry it the rest of the way out with the pry bar. Sometimes you can also use the same technique, except pry the second piece up a little with the pry bar and place a rock or chunk of concrete under the concrete to provide an air gap. Then hit the slab with your sledge hammer. It will break very easy and then pry it up and out.
I have a metal roof but still put in a gable fan two years ago. Not only did it make the inside of my house cooler but it also lowered the awful tennessee humidity.
I will be doing cast iron removal soon in my basement slab , so this was a great video for me. I was really looking forward to the follow up video. Did the plumber not allow recording or is it still in the editing process? Just wondering because I noticed the concrete was finished in the newer videos
Thank you for the video. I always learn a lot from your videos. I wonder what if it was a concrete slab reinforced with rebar, would the concrete saw and sledge hammer be sufficient to break it and dig a trench for the water pipes?
I've been putting off doing this exact same project on a renovation I've been doing. Single car garage turned into apartment being turned into a music/recording studio. Found a leak in a water line in the bathroom that was added on after the fact. The water line comes in galvanized, goes through a valve into copper (where the leak is of course), and then goes under the slab they poured. Hopefully it's under the concrete anyway, it wouldn't surprise me if it's inside the floor by the way they did things in this mess. I've got the rough cut out where I'm going to dig up but I need to rent an electric jack hammer to finish and I just haven't been ambitious enough to do it. May have burned out a circular saw cutting the grooves for the outside of the new channel that's going on. Guess I'd better put that on my to do list this weekend. I blame you for making me work on a Saturday.
Hey there,I’m getting ready to set up a craft room in my basement and would like to attach cabinets and peg board to the walls, which are the same material (block walls)as I see here in your video. Is it ok to do that? I know I will need to use a hammer drill and carbide drill bits. I just don’t want to affect the integrity of my walls. 😊
Those knee pads look great - but I can't seem to get any of them to stay in place on my knees. They always fall down anytime I get up and take a few steps no matter how tight I get them. Maybe the wider band on these will work differently.
I have to do the same thing to swap the positioning of my sink and tub drains in the basement. I asked them to just rough it in. What is the best way to tie any modifications into the existing plumbing/drainage? I want to swap all 3 positions of the shower, toilet and sink drains.
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY I learn better by seeing so I’m definitely gonna have to do some research on this and tune in on Monday or Wednesday when the plumber shows up at your end.
I am actually not thinking that will be necessary for this house. top of a hill and zero water issues over the years and it has seen every type of storm you can imagine in the last 50 years !
I plan to use dricore insularmor too (the barricade version but it's the Lowe's equivalent and made by the same manufacturer). The instruction manual says to cut 3 1/2 inch strips to place under your framing. Then place the sheets adjacent to that. Any thoughts on that? I would think there would be gaps everywhere which breaks the barrier/thermal bridge. I even called the dricore number and they doubled down on this advice. Open to your thoughts
I love that you bought a regular house and not some monstrous mcmansion. Watching you work and convey your wisdom as you come across issues is invaluable. We're working on an adobe house, so not everything applies, but it still helps us.
The chipper does not save any time vs the sledge once the lines are cut. We also are only running on temporary power so we can't do heavy load tools and be live at the same time. Cheers! If you can't swing a sledge then rent the second tool and save your back.
I think today you could've used Nate's help, too!! I guess he couldn't be there. My shoulders are hurting just watching you and Matt swing those sledge hammers! 😅 It's a good thing you found the issue with the missing footing under that main section. Better now than later. I appreciate the explanation about the whirlpool effect in the drain for the pipe system, too. I've never heard that. So, thank you for the video!! Have a nice week off!! 🖐
Just got flooded in basement. Found some crack and keep digging in you channel to find DIY video on how to repair crack in concrete wall basement. Or this is a too serious subject better hire a pro
Personally id frame temp walls on each side tear out and install a footer wall! If not it will be in the back of youre head forever! Or steel with footers under both ends! A chain is only as strong as its weakest link and all! Y.k.! Fot peace of mind at minimum!
You introduced a concrete saw but why didn't you use it when you were using the sledgehammer? Or did I miss something Edit: nevermind, he mentioned the reasoning was dust and didn't want to impact the camera equipment
Plus we are on temporary power so using it at the same time might have caused the fuse to fail and we could loose the stream. Cheers! we filmed the action of the saw yesterday and will show its function in a video soon. Cheers!
For a forever home, why not just build a house from scratch? I’d honestly love to watch that and it seems like for a forever home, it’d be a lot better.
I prefer to renovate besides I can't get a huge backyard in town for the cost and also build. for me to be close to the family is more important than having a brand new house.
Hello, I'm Charles Nike Watching from Florida Jacksonville USA. I'm sorry if I may appear intrusive I just want to let you know I didn't know this kind of beauty 😍 still exist, Where are you watching from?
Little advice Nobody nobody nobody cares about your achievements. Don’t tell people it’s your house and gloat. You’re just shoving it in peoples faces. Just show people the information they want to know that’s what you do, nobody cares about your forever home they care about theirs.
I actually like to hear about the different projects he is working on while he works, especially when there's no new information to share until he gets to a certain point. And knowing how much he has accomplished makes me feel like he is certainly certified to be sharing all of this knowledge with us. I think it helps show others they can achieve good results too with a little motivation and effort.
Seriously? Why whine about that? If you don’t want to hear him talk, just don’t listen. He gives a lot of valuable information and is helping people understand what it takes to do these projects. There is nothing negative about that! It’s free information for all of us.
Yeah, Miss sweets, that’s exactly my point. He had a thumbnail he’s remodeling his dream home and all this other nonsense. Nobody cares about that obviously you care about the information he puts out which is what I said, and not about his life accomplishments of achieving a dream house… they want to build their dream house, not his…

humidity is no joke. having a mechanical air movement system is always a great upgrade to extend the life of your building. Cheers!

Have you thought to test the basement for Radon gas? Could be a good time to install a fan for this while you are breaking the ciment?

Cheers Saturdays are made for working!
open the concrete and put trudeau in.
Concrete saws are a must. I had to go down 5-6in.
Wow that is a thick slab!
Should look at hiring a concrete breaker for the speed

What about using an electric jack Hammer to break concrete?

use 2" pipe so you can wet vent and save time and money!

Did you have plans to put in backflow prevention while you have the floor opened up?

the issue is framing on top of a finished subfloor. you can always go back and add a bead of spray foam to seal up the gaps. CHeers!
I love that you bought a regular house and not some monstrous mcmansion. Watching you work and convey your wisdom as you come across issues is invaluable. We're working on an adobe house, so not everything applies, but it still helps us.

How about an electric demo hammer
You could buy such a concrete saw for $200 at Vevor
wouldn’t it be better to use a concrete breaker / chipping hammer

I’m insulting my 10 year old garage and finishing it with 1/2” plywood…is it okay to use 11/2” screws or nail it?
either works fine. Cheers!
What is it about safety glasses that makes it hard to see. I thought it was just me.
Would like to see a tub next to a shower !!
that is something we will do upstairs for sure. Cheers!
Wet bar is that still a thing
Yes unless you want to go upstairs like a barbarian
just means you have a sink and a drain and not a pail under the counter. Cheers!
Who else was literally suffering watching that guy sledge hammer the concrete? Most inefficient way to do it

Because he would have to change the RUclips channel name from renovision to newbuildovison.
Renovating is more cost efficient and is at the core of the show!
Shower only.
Thanks!

Why not cut the floor even more..
no need at this point. I have a meeting with the structural engineer monday morning. we will wait to see what he says. Cheers!
