The best part of being an NPC is when two groups start fighting they will probably ignore you
It also means you can learn from something like this they probably won't fall for a stunt like this again or they will ham it up a bit with whoever they meet the next time it happens
It takes real skill to perfectly mimic an npc.
You have to be very good to be bad on purpose.

It can also translate from other spoken languages with some accuracy. Definitely not 100% but still comes in handy.

The best part is they see the skeleton up there but when they get up there there is no skeleton and they never put 2 and 2 together.

There's just something hilarious about the verbal back and forth, ships blowing up and on fire, all while one skeleton looks on, laughing and dancing.
The guy with the keg spontaneously climbing up their ship and blowing it up all while screaming "IVE GOT THE KEG" really got me XD

I did that for shits and giggles one time in ESO. I had a glitch that had disabled my health bar, character name, etc… so I looked like an NPC. So I just left my character in one spot, then walked, repeat. It was funny because I could hear people going: “huh?”

So heres the story behind that... I just got the key for a vault and was on my way when i started getting chased (yes i was a solo brig incase my friends got on) and i rad a rowboat so i grabbed the key onto the rowboat and dropped off and let my brig keep going full sail as a distraction.. It had the same sails and everything as the one that wrecked and it was on that side of the map so im 99% sure thats my ship...
so long story short my i abandoned my ship and let it keep going and it ended up in the video XD

Iirc, there was a player who dressed up as a Dark Souls enemy NPC and stood in the spot where that enemy spawns when they got invaded. They weren't even "hiding" per se, since they were standing in the correct spot for the NPC the whole time and hostile AI don't attack invaders in that game.

When I played WoW I had a buddy that had a character named Grom and I had a character with the name Thrall (both of them has a special character in the name)- which we parked in the human starting area, flagged, and patted around exactly like the NPCs untill clueless noobies hit us and realized they just picked a fight with the only level 11 twink in existence.

This is fantastic. Whenever anyone says NPC energy anymore, I'm thinking of this. What's funny is I just recently saw a video of Lost doing basically this in Elden Ring. Wearing full mushroom set so he looks like foliage, going into a dark spot and using the Balled Up emote where you curl up in a fetal position.
I wonder if you could change your in game name to be more npc like, and trick a crew to taking on a "quest" with you (the npc) doing an escort mission and such, and see how long you could keep them going for. Maybe use a voice changer and have some dialog and all.
Real npcs in this game either have subtitles or use text boxes so this would be immposible. cool idea though!

Oh wow.. I was playing and seen this in game.. I was on the island watching all of this... I did take a pop shot at you at one point but you moved.. Was while you where looking at the black ship.. Was bad timing on my part... But as soon as I noticed the way you where moving I figured it was a admin or something messing around so I decided to just watch. I had completely forgotten about the skeleton curse thing. ( I have encountered an admin controlling a NPC in the past its why I thought that. )
