  • Showing off the custom designed distributor adapter for our 4.6 SOHC, Project OJ. This allows the EFI and computer to be removed, so that the engine be ran off of a carburetor and a cam-driven distributor.

I agree with you. I'm old school and prefer carbs and distributors. To me it's easier to deal with.

This setup is really cool. Great build. If you make these for sale. I’m sure the word will spread and start a new trend with the old school crowd.

I remember back in 93 I had a 86 gt fox body 5.0 71 Windsor heads 1.94 intake 1.54 exhaust my point is mine was a carb set up with Edelbrock R.P.M headers Mallory ignition Sig Erson Flat Tappet Camshaft small lift long duration anyway everyone else was gt 40 stuff cobra intakes injection 70mm throttle body's Alphabet Cams etc. Anyway they walk by my car and laugh till we lined up and I whooped ass on them all. I am old school myself and I taught them that day in a painful way that Injection is good for fuel mileage but for balls out drag racing what worked in the 60's still works to this day. Love how your building this 4.6 can't wait till you start playing with power adders. Thanks for putting these videos out your a damn good Ford builder and I love the Videos being a Ford guy myself. I eventually used same style camshaft in a 4v Cleveland Holley Dominator intake 750 cfm Holley never used slicks knew the 5 speed would explode if I did but man it was a fun car to have as a daily Remember cruising in over drive 5th gear barely touching throttle cruising 90 mph at 2700 Rpm even with a 3.73 ratio car went up canyons without even sneezing even with the huge ported heads and 4-7k rpm through the gears no power shifting still was so much fun anyway I miss my young years use to hurt a ton of SBC guys feelings even with the 5.0 LOL. Keep doing what you do love these programs.

I did my part. I've been subscribed for a long time! Even after cleaning and wire brushing balancers, I still had a problem with those timing tapes coming off. I had to spray some clear paint on them to keep the air from getting under them as the engine revved.

Next do a dizzy conversion timing chain cover for a 7.3 Godzilla. There's an LS version that works exactly like a flat head ford style. Love your work.

I never used to like modular Motors but now if you put a carb and a distributor on it that's a whole new world.. Cant wait to see more of this build. I hope a lot of people see the potential here and jump in and start their own.. Ford people need a new readily available, lower cost fun alternative.. Perfect choice, rock solid reliable too..

What luck your rotor lined up with the cap post on top.😊 I think the distributor is great! I would have even been fine with a dual point. I guess I'm showing my age, you probably can't even get them anymore.

I think the biggest reason to do it is why not and that it's super cool! You turned a mod motor into an old school muscle car engine but with a modern twist of OHC. I will admit to tossing shade at the 2v 4.6 but not because it's a bad engine they are strong ,simple and dead reliable engines they're just kinda of a boring
engine there's nothing to really get excited about they're small displacement, without significant mods they have
mehh NA power potential but they do respond well to boost but most do. and it's the same engine that's in trucks sedans ect. but they are a solid platform that's why they were so widely used. Even tho I've never owned one but I'm a fan of the 4v and want a 96-98 4v cobra some day, I have a 95 GT 5.0. I have always said if I scored a 4.6 2v GT I would tear it out and drop in a SBC or an LS but seeing this setup I think going a carb distributor converted 2v would be a definite option now. I think that timing cover would look sweet polished up and it would be easy as hell it's big n mostly flat or for a more old school look polish then engine turn the entire face of it👌. If someone is gonna fully build a 4.6 it would be silly to not toss a 3.75" stroke crank in it, how can you go wrong with a 5.0 displacement. Just being able to say its a 5.0 is worth the extra cost to me. And the thoughts of gappin coyotes with a carb and half the valves would be priceless.

I really like the conversion to carb/distributor route. The 4.6 is a great motor to work with. I installed a 4.6 out of a 2003 Crown Vic in my 70 Maverick. I stuck with the EFI because I had the whole car. Another reason was the transmission which is ECU controlled. The engine is big though, so I also converted over to a MII front suspension. My question would be what transmission would you use if you chuck all the ECU/EFI ? I didn't even think of this conversion when I transplanted my 4.6. Love your videos and really want to talk to you at some point to build my 390 in my 64 Galaxie. One other thing I had to do on my Maverick was buy an under dash master brake cylinder set up because of the engine size.

I have a 4.6 V8 from a wrecked 95 Cougar in my garage with 11k original miles on it. It has been there since 96. It is in unbelievable good condition. Turns nicely and untouched. It has been getting in the way for other things I want to do. Is there a market for this engine? I don't want it.

Thinking about a small block Ford engine, all aluminum 4.125" bore 3.25 stroke. Would that offer any advantages over a 4" x 3.4"? Love this build BTW.
