As a proud Maori and a long time subscriber, id like to give a big Thank You to you both for allowing the world to experience our culture, reading trough the comments i seen alot of people from different contries and cultures that enjoyed seeing our culture and it almost brought a tear to my tear, so again id like to thank Taku and Joclyn for sharing our cultre to the world
This is one of the best videos you've ever made. A big thanks to you and the people of New Zealand for letting us be a part of their blessed journey. ❤
I may be biased cause i'm Maori but that was by far my favourite episode from Outdoor Chef Life of all time! Thank you for some wholesome content that takes our appreciation for fish, fishing and the Moana [ocean] to a much deeper level and also for showcasing our people, our culture and our wider community that there is hope for humanity!
My favourite line at the very end of the episode from one of the bro's with some classic subtle Maori humour 'Tena Koutou, Tena Koutou... now take a photo' 😂😂😂
It’s a marvelous thing that those communities keep their traditions alive and well. I’m Filipino and Puerto Rican and both cultures revere their fish heads. Nothing on a harvested animal is left for waste. We really need more of this in the US.
Loved this video, and the comments as a Maori It’s always a blessing to see others appreciate our beautiful and rich culture… thank you
I visited Aotearoa this year and I will never forget how beautiful it is. Unfortunately I didn't get to see many Maori people because I spent most of my time in the South Island. I will come back at some point for sure
Of all indigenous traditions around the world, the Haka has always been my favorite. Absolutely moves me to tears. Thanks for sharing your experience Taku.
As a kiwi fisherman, it's great to see things like Legasea being promoted, and to see a great fishing day as well! Tight lines mate, as always
Mahalo nui loa for sharing this BEAUTIFUL experience with the wonderful Maori people!!! Love what they're doing to address the food issues on the planet! Aloha nui to you all!
As a Native American it makes me happy to see other Indigenous peoples around the world getting to practice their culture and traditions, New Zealand although not perfect with their dealings with the Māori in the past have done right in the past 30 years, the Māori are strong people.
👍🏾
Such a Blessing & a Gift to be welcomed onto a Marae.. I know you would have felt the POWERFUL Energy. Mauri Aroha 💛
According to research, hunter/gatherers spent 14 hours per week hunting and gathering. The free time was spent celebrating. The epitome of civilization.
The game was definitely more plentiful. Must have been something.
To bad they lived to 34 only
Modern day hunter/ gsthers spend 14 hours per day finding food according to people who have spent time with them.
and killing other hunter/gatherers or does that count as hunting and gathering?
@@bananarama6808i think youre confusing average age of death which back then was lower due to increased infant mortality versus the median age of adult mortality. The idea that every single human died before 34 is silly.
Bro. The Koro there would have fileted 3 fish by the time I have done one. That's what you call skill and years of experience. Keep up the awesome work bro
Bro straight up, I'm terrible at filleting a fish, he would've done half a bin by the time I had finished one fish
Great video you two. What an amazing scheme, makes me proud to be a Kiwi.😁
My god ...
Awesome culture.
Wish to be there. Respect, no food goes to waste.
What a beautiful video. I didn’t noticed till my wife asked me why I what I was smiling at because I was smiling through whole video. Thank you Jocelyn and Taku for sharing.

During covid I found your channel. I understand content evolves but man do I miss the coastal foraging days. Poke pole-ing for eel and watching you make some fire looking food right there on the coast. Nice to see you traveling and doing your thing though.
This brought me back to that film I saw as a kid called, "Whale Rider". Very interesting culture. I dig it.
Holy damn you were in the heart of South Auckland, Māngere 275 🇳🇿Visiting a friend of mines Marae ✊🏽
Well it's quite good part of it. Fish head curry is really nostalgic for me. It makes me remember my culture cause it's one of the main delicacies that popular at my hometown. One of a good part for a fish.
Beautiful segment.
