Great reaction to a beautiful song and even better performance. Rick Wagner has already explained everything (and more) that I was thinking to say other than although Su had performed this song live as early as June 2013 she did not feel she was understanding or expressing the emotion it deserved and that she was concentrating most on getting the notes and lyrics right. Only when she saw people in the audience crying (probably the second time she performed it at the Budokan in 2014) did she realise she could effect people this way ... 'No Rain, No Rainbow' was included on the second album. 'No Rain, No Rainbow' is inspired by and pays homage to X Japan's classic song 'Endless Rain'. At the New Year there was a special performance of 'Endless Rain' by Yoshiki (the composer and pianist / drummer with X Japan) joined by special guests Brian May and Roger Taylor from Queen, Sarah Brightman and a select few Japanese artists - including BABYMETAL. Su got just one line to herself, but it is worth watching just for that. You can find the video on the official Queen channel if you're interested.
⚡ / ☂️ 🌈 Even though this song had its debut back in 2013 at 'Legend 1999', it has only been performed live seven times, and never outside of Japan. Kami Band guitarist Leda Cygnus is officially credited with the arrangement of this song. He also played guitar and bass on the studio version. Leda was on stage the first three times the song was performed. These two concerts on back-to-back nights were the first BABYMETAL performances ever in Hiroshima, Su's birthplace and home prefecture. They celebrated Su's 20th birthday, which is an especially important one in Japan. This was Kami Band guitarist Mikio Fujioka's last appearance with BABYMETAL. They have a close-up on him during this part: "Nidoto ae-nai kedo, wasure-naide itai yo." (We shall never meet again, but I want not to forget you forever.) Mikio passed away on January 5th, 2018, before the video was released. The introduction just before this song refers to the bombing of Hiroshima, Su's home prefecture, and the location of these two concerts. DESPAIR 『絶望』 "The bright beam of light That wiped all light from the world Also ceased people's light of hope The skies turned dark And endless rain fell upon the people Who had lost all of their light and hope But endless rain doesn't exist And the people hope of black skies to clear out So the heavens can restore the light that had been lost They hope to discover that there's happiness at the end of sorrow And they pray for light of hope to return to them." (This intro was added for these two concerts. That doesn't mean the song was originally written to be about those events, just that they were drawing a connection for these two special shows in Su's home prefecture of Hiroshima.) The last line of this song is: "An endless rain fills my heart, forever." That's considered to be a reference to the X-Japan song 'Endless Rain'.
She being from Hiroshima and granddaughter of Hiroshima bomb survivor, this must be really special for her. One of the most gorgeous ballad from SuMetal solos and BM in general, performed at Legend S Baptism XX at 20th SuMetal birthday it was a special concert for many factors and many fans always get sad about it, me too of course, is a bittersweat live concert and one in a lifetime too. She sang early this year at 10 Babymetal Budokan with our queen "playing" the piano, it really surprised the audience and it was just delightful, i saw it during World Premiere livestream and it's gonna be released on DVD/BR at 29/09 worldwide. She supposed to sing this song during first album but she felt not ready to sing it with all the emotions needed, that's why is included during 2nd album later on. There's a live version at Legend 1999 (Yui and MoaMetal birthday) in which the girls walkdown the stairs and "plays" the piano while SuMetal sings, it was an special and one time only performance too.❤️ I will add something else to your research about this song ;) SuMetal said that this guitars solos is one of her favorite parts, quote: _“I feel that the guitars in this song sound as if they’re really singing the melody, and I just really enjoy it."_ Glad you keep coming back with more BM songs, may the Fox God bless you 🦊🤘 _LIVINGLEGEND_ _NOTACULT_ _10BABYMETALYEARS_
Always brings a tear to the eyes . Love the bit where Su looks almost about to cry then a look of happiness comes to her eyes . Su has such beautiful eyes and scary! she portrays such emotion through them along with her awesome vocals and stage presence. she is spellbinding to watch . That's why she is Queen. ❤🤘🦊🤘
RIP Mikio. Su’s performance was, both, amazing and haunting. There are times when I listen to this song. Su’s voice is what I’m hearing. But in my mind…. I see Mikio’s last performance with BabyMetal. Officially no more Yui.
She makes it easy to fall in love with her and her voice and her passion.. then the kami band is so damn versatile, the double lead keeps your emotions going. It's so beautiful.. this never gets old, it just gets better..
This is a concert that was held before Suzuka was 20 years old, and Hiroshima is her hometown. When she was twelve, she decided she wouldn't return to her hometown until she succeeded as a singer, and she went to Tokyo. Her tears in her eyes come from such thoughts. After this, Babymetal has been very successful in the world while suffering great tragedy such as the accidental death of a guitarist and the withdrawal of Yuimetal. What a story they have!
This is my favourite version of this song! it's from Su's 20th Birthday concert and was the first one without Yui and the last with Mikio (I think). So much emotion in her voice and mannerisms!
Great reaction to a beautiful song... I love this song, it's very emotional and shows a completely different side of BABYMETAL, and Su's vocal and performing capabilities.
Nice & thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。 We are moved by this song because we are human beings. Not necessary to read the lyrics. I am a Japanese but my nationality and literacy do not have distinct advantages to feel the emotion stirred by Su-Metal and Kamis. We are not just listening to a song but embracing celestial healings. This was filmed in 2017 and Su sang this song in the two last shows of 10 BABYMETAL Budokan this year (April 14 & 15) with more matured voice. I am sure many fans saw it in the online world premiere program. As an eyewitness of both shows at the venue, I can tell you that it was literally heartbreaking and made me forget to breathe.
Indeed that long pause in the Budokan show - your right, not breathing just waiting... the is a remarkable performer. The more so because she moves me in a language I do not even understand.
Great reaction, thanks! And excellent video choice. This is the very best performance you can find here on YT. And probably the absolute best due the song has been performed only seven times and two was at the Hiroshima 2017 concert and the last two at the recent Budokan concerts in 2021. Summarizing: Su finally made the song hers... and she killed it! Until next time!
Damn onion ninjas. Everything worth to say is already said. My absolute favorite Babymetal song. Su-metal's eyes it's hard not to get a lump in my throat. So sad so beautiful. Kitsune up 🤘🦊🤘/4
This is in her home city too.......the feeling must have been at 100%. We are so lucky to be seeing this and hearing this once in a generation voice. AND SHE IS OURS.
Nice reaction. One of the best power ballads I've ever heard. Su does an amazing job on this song. Kami band showed off some cool skills as well during this performance
The look in her eye is real, their are performances of Suzuka/Su-metal where their are real tear(s). I don't even know how she does it, how can you sing with a lump in your throat ? Some say, X-Japan was inspired by Prince's Purple Rain and X-Japan created Endless Rain. Those people usually also say: November Rain by Guns N' Roses was also inspired by one or both. And now we have No Rain, No Rainbow... inspired by at least X-Japan's Endless Rain.
@@djentleeReacts One of the things Babymetal added during the tour in 2016 in US/EU in the performance of Karate in the middle after the moment with the audience, Su-metal says: "Everybody jump !" She does this while singing. I can't jump and talk with a stable voice. I'll gladly admit I'm a noob, but it seems really impressive to me ! Also bassist BOH jumping with them is great.
I believe this was the first show without they performed without Yui and I think that might also have been the reason for her being emotional when she was singing.
This performance and that of 'Akatsuki (Unfinished Version)' are, in my view, the performances that turn Princess Su into a queen. The power that this sympathetic little person possesses is unbelievable. 【 'Our rock never dies ever. Forever!' - from BAND-MAID 'Manners' 】🕊️

As always Rick Wagner (renowned BM and Sakura Gakuin encylopedia) has filled in the usual details. However I did notice one thing he missed (probably to avoid overwhelming you with details). He referred to the fact this has only been performed live 7 times (the early 3 shows (I think the final time being Toyko Dome), then the two Legend S shows (which this is from in Dec 2017 ) and then the two Budokan 10th Anniversary shows earlier this year (2021). Part of the reason the long gap was that Su felt she did not have the emotional maturity and experience needed to sing this properly and so was shelved until she was about to turn 20 (the Coming of Age in Japan). The difference between the earlier shows and this is telling as she threw much more life experience into this version which you noticed (her eyes for one change).
Baby Metal :No Rain No Rainbow Rough English translation. Why can't I sleep? Why does the night end at dawn as I can't sleep? I don't need anything, even tomorrow. I don't need a future without you. Some advice. Reacting to a soulful ballad like this, stop the tape, say your thing, and then restart 10 seconds earlier. This reaction was like walking on the beach watching the sunset with a friend, who's constantly saying platitudes like "wow, so beautiful". I'm sorry, but I would stand still and let you go on your own. Which is what I did.
Regarding the black outfit the pianist was wearing - The pianist and the string quartet are dressed in the style of kuroko ("black clothes"), who are the stagehands in traditional Japanese theatre. They will come onstage to move props or scenery, help with costume changes, and act out roles such as animals or other things that can be represented with a prop rather than an actor. The all-black costume symbolizes that they are "invisible" and aren't really a part of the play themselves. Their dress would make sense to a Japanese audience since they are not part of BABYMETAL or the Kami Band.
This is by far the best and most emotional of NRNR I’ve ever seen and it always gets me. Adding that Yui officially left and this was the last time we were able to see Mikio performing just adds to the emotions. Great choice and glad you are back with another BM reaction!
Technically Yui had not left - it was announced just before the concerts that due to medical advice YUIMETAL would not be performing (she never performed again). She officially left in October of the following year. The choreography of the show indicates the late decision for YUIMETAL not to perform as much of the choreography is still the 3 girl setup with only some slight tweaks where they had time. Also BLACK BABYMETAL songs were done with Moa alone and again there had not been time to change the vocals (Of course Moa pulled it off superbly aided by the fans filling in YUIMETAL's parts).
