meanwhile for me it's just normal, in japan and other asian countries when you're remotely sick you're told to wear a mask, out of respect for others around you. this is also because of the cramped nature of modern japanese streets and trains, where a lot of people are huddled around
A Japanese exchange student lives in a sleepy, rural Midwestern town in America, all the while his friends and family live out their lives in Japan. At 3:55 you can tell that he takes solace in his situation as he thinks of them.
Japan has a lot of amazing bands. I watch a lot of indie shows here in Tokyo. Some bands I would highly recommend are "Indigo La End" and "ART-SCHOOL". If you're into shoegazing/dream-pop then check out "Kinoko Teikoku". They're pretty amazing.
I wonder if, 3 years ago, anyone would have guessed that AF would reunite, make news songs AND have videos with japanese people cooking and playing bowling.
I really like the colors and just overall shots of every scene in this. The city lights, the night scenes, the evening scenes, all of it. It really compliments the song.
Agreed. It's like when my partner doesn't understand how I could be so depressed when the world is full of such bright vibrant colors, that I can't see. Puts into perspective why then go off'd himself being color-blind as well
The time american football had to perfect their individual sounds during their split could possibly be the best thing ever. The production of this is possibly their magnum opus. Now steve lamos is back I cant wait to see what’s to come from them
just found american football through a melee meme and love all 3 albums, apparently ppl think lp2 is the weakest but idk I feel like all 3 albums are amazing and have so many good songs. this is def one of my favorites off lp2. cant think of many if any bands that can go on a decade and a half hiatus and put out two albums that are just as good as their amazing first album. and love me a good mid-song shift like that. goat track
I love it. It's also so simple compared to how impactful it is, just the drums playing 2 bars of 3/4 in the space of the guitar's 4/4 bar. It really is genius to me, prime example of proper use of complexity. So many polyrythms way more complex than this don't carry nearly as much meaning to the overall experience.
listening to this band when you are depressed is so fucking different than when youre not. Idk how to explain it. But I'd relate it to watering plants when they are first planted, compared to when they are first starting to grow and bloom. At first I was just excited and didn't know what to expect, but now that I've seen the beauty of it, it's not more of a chore to me to water them every day, it just feels... right. I'm going through such a hard time in my life right now, but listening to them just feels... right.
We arent living in a normal world anymore. And I agree that discovering this band was an amazing things. There are many awesome bands but this one definitely is special and makes you think of many deep canyons of the soul. I hope you have started to feel a little more whole my friend..
The Japanese elderly are wonderful, kind souls. I remember during my trip to Japan our travel group got a little bit lost looking for walking directions to Osaka Castle, when an elderly gentleman did his best to tell us where it was and even walked with us partway. God bless them
This song and video are otherworldly in ways I simply cannot describe. I know they got famous for the first album but I truly think this album is a _complete masterpiece_ spawned after an extra 16 years of talent and raw emotion.
Been listening to this non-stop since it first came out. This is more Owen than the original American Football, but I'm definitely not mad. There's enough different about it and enough similar to create something new that isn't too far from it's roots. Fantastic song and album.
My instincts are the enemy I warned you I’ve damaged good inside of me I need you Translate all the colors that I can’t see I think I’m in trouble You explain why all the reds look green to me With my nerves exposed, I can’t say no My instincts are the enemy I warned you I’ve malevolence inside of me I need you I wanna taste a little bit of everything But it gets me in trouble To fill my plate with the vacant and obscene With my nerves exposed, I can’t say no I’m paralyzed, engaged in civil war What can I do? I love this Band! I had the pleasure of seeing them perform this album in Philadelphia right before the pandemic hit in 2018. I had front row seats with a very Good friend who introduced their music to me . Mike Kinsella ( lead) likes to take walks right before the performance and walked right by us in line. we said hey! and he spoke. they are so down to earth. love this band so much. one of favorite songs of all time.

haha I've lived in Japan for 6 years and I've been deeply involved in the music scene here since before then. hajime is the friendliest dude in jp and any emo band to go there will find this out quickly. and omg polyvinyl sempai noticed me!
actually thinkin bout it i'm not sure if it's a polyrythm, you can definitely count the guitar riff as a 3/4 along with the drums and bass, but when it starts by itself it's 100% not how I felt the tempo/time signature, which is why it almost feels like a polyrythm and the subversion of expectations gives it an amazing effect
Listened to this once without noticing the title whilst exploring an abandoned building, freaked out af. I later tried finding the song as I enjoyed hearing it, and laughed after seeing the title 🤣
