- Last week, Ellen called a home viewer named Kristen to ask about the weather. Today she and her husband thought they were coming just to see a taping -- and had no idea Ellen had been planning a big surprise the entire time!

I admit it, I was expecting a free house. That being said, $10,000 is a very generous gift. I do love Ellen.
I totally agree. Even if they just paid one of them off. It would have given them an extra $750 a month which is about enough for rent.

I think what people are missing from here is how much these FAMILY is struggling FINANCIALLY. You can see it in their faces that even though it may seem just a measly $10k, it's obviously a BIG HELP to them! This is one of those times where you just know the show is trying to help instead of "helping by giving lots of money/gadgets" just so their SHOW gets HIGH RATINGS!

And even if they are paying rent to her parents like someone else suggested.. again...this.is.LIFE. I wish someone would just throw me 10,000 when I needed it.... and I'm sure that single mother going to school and working while living in a small apartment would appreciate it too.
$10,000 is pretty sweet! If they could find an apartment for $800/month, that's 1 years rent.

actually i waswaiting for her to mimic an oprah moment where she draws their attention to a big screen that displays their separate loans. then says watch this this...."PAID" and "PAID" up on the screen. Would have been cool, but that was a real big help for them and u can tell the husband was really truly grateful for it. That being said i do agree that this couple was stupid for allowing themselves to get regnant in their situation. Never fair to a new baby to be brought into a hard life

OK, I'll ask the question. They have huge student loans, so they went to college, but the jobs those college educations got them are Day Care and Doggy Day Care workers? Maybe they should have chosen better majors?

dlkhills I would say ones that either offer better return on investment, or ones with more opportunity for employment. I'm guessing he didn't major in doggy day care. I understand the theory of doing what you love, but you then accept that you may not get rich doing it.

You could of left out the Life Style Comment. You don't have to agree with her lifestyle. She is an amazing woman with a huge heart. Should it matter if she is Lesbian or Straight? You know, gay pople are generally more giving than most communites, but simply because we are gay, that is what people like you see first. Pretty shallow!!!!!
