Laureen Elsa Phelan - We started by carving a large block of foam into the shape of the head. Then we cut the foam head into pieces so that it would fit on our vacuform machine. We covered the foam in tape so that it would release easier when it was done, and then we vacuformed 2' squares of black ABS plastic of the foam pieces. Once those were done, we trimmed the plastic and riveted the pieces together. You can find a little more about it here - www.stagemonkeydesign.com/monkey-blog/2015/11/30/making-the-shrek-dragons/
Laureen Elsa Phelan hard is a relative term. It depends on your own skills. Our lead designer went to school to learn what he knows, but he also has a natural eye for it. It requires a lot of patience, and a steady hand.
