One thought I had: what would happen if humans traveling in forests and shrublands use wood chimes? If the local scavengers are conditioned to run from the sound it would help keep the pests away, and it could potentially dissuade smaller rattle dreads from engaging if they don't feel confident in their ability to fight a larger one. And if a nearby rattle dread does decide to challenge what they perceive as a rival, would they give some sort sign? Like a bellow to initiate a challenge? Giving the humans enough time to prepare or just outrun the beast?
If I was in charge of a human settlement, I would make it a requirement to become a dragonslayer to first kill a Rattle Dread, as there so many of them I doubt just getting rid of one would increase the safety of the settlement by a lot, but it would be a good test to see if the slayer prepared to take on the more dangerous dragons. I love small stories about dragons like Six Cigars, they add a lot of depth and personality to the world. Also, would a Kinsbane with a similar condition be named 500 cigarettes? lol
Rattledreads, the one dragon that would scare me more than a Kinsbane if they were real. Just the idea of a dragon that doesn’t care where your are but will eat anything in its way to get to you 😬
We all need to come together as a community and make tall tales about old Six Cigars. Also the Rattledread looks like a smaller Bazelgeuse from above, and I can’t unsee it.
I've heard he came across a sleeping kinsbane and was swallowed whole - then ate his way out of the Kinsbane's stomach, followed by eating the rest of the beast.
@@naturalist4life396 "I saw, with my own two eyes, Six Cigars get attacked by on thousand gut butchers, and he ate every single one, even ate one and shot it's head through the chest of another gut butcher and the still living head tore the heart out the other gut butchers mouth. i love the attention to detail with your world building! A less well thought out world would have something like The Great Kinsbane be the most dangerous dragon to humans, and while TGKs are dangerous to be sure, their large size basically ensures that one will never really go out of its way to attack a human, doing so only if provoked or if the human is being stupid. Very similar to Orcas in that they are both massive predators and should be respect, but both (probably) have low levels of human attacks and fatalities but the Rattle Dread, based off its ecology, presents a far more dangerous species. Sure they aren't nearly as powerful as Kinsbanes, but their prey prefence, biology, and ecology basically puts them on a direct path for human predatation. and I like how thats reflected in your world building with the Kinsbanes being somewhat respected/revered, and the Rattle Dreads being mostly reviled great video as always

An unlikely weapon, but I think strong incense/smoke would be an effective counter. Blinding the dragon and blocking all smell, accompanied by loud noises from all sides would render them entirely cut off from the world. Trapping them becomes easy, as does dodging any attacks along the way.
How would you even defend an underground city from such a tenacious species? 🤔 Maybe traps in the narrow entrance hallway such as a huge false floor/ pit trap, or spring-loaded walls along segments of hall adorned with metal studs that can be triggered to slam shut? But all those sound like a health & safety nightmare lol
