Sailed from Mumbai to London in 1963 on Arcadia I remember the swimming pool and watching the Dolphins. Also sailing into London on the Thames.. Amazing memories...

I went on this ship as a young boy with my dad (1970 something). We got on in Sydney for a week or so. Moments after we boarded someone had a heart attack in the restaurant and died feet away from me. Not traumatizing but stuck in my memory. I still have my Arcadia souvenir brass wall plaque :)

I went to Adelaide on her from Tilbury in 1964.
    Amazing experience.
Back then "Tourist class" (2nd) was better than traveling in today's 1st class. You had your own dedicated waiter and cabin staff.
4 meal sittings a day in the restaurant. Dancing in the ballroom. Cinema. And shore tours. And all this for £10 per person and kids went free.
    Great memories. Thanks for posting.

Great shots of the old Arcadia there. Sailed on her 1971 from Melbourne to Southampton. The ship at 3.45 and 3.50 is Iberia. A nice tribute to a beautiful ship.

The last shot is of Iberia her sister. I sailed on her from Southampton to Los Angeles in 1968. Great video.

My very first cruise, 1970. Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company Lisbon, Palma, Naples, Casablanca from Southampton. Arcadia was 2 classes at that time. F Deck aft, shared a 4 berth cabin. Think it cost £74 for 14 nights. First of many cruises. The following year Oriana, July 1971. Gibraltar, Palma, Maples, Athens. Memorable for vibration was so bad, if you looked away your drink fell on the deck !! 😢 1&9p a pint…(8p in decimal) 😅😅 Booked on Arvia repositioning cruise next March, a bit different. 😊

3:43 to 3:48 reminds me of an aerial view of the Ile de France/Claridon in "The Last Voyage". I'm not as familiar with down-under liners as with North Atlantic but I've read that the Arcadia was a great success while her sister Iberia had continuing problems. The Southern Cross had a very long career under different names while her sister Northern Star had problems and was scrapped after about 13 years. Interesting how sister ships can have such differing stories.

Joined her while still at John Browns shipyard. Fitting out took a couple of weeks. Lots of power failure while alongside!
Did sea trials off Isle of Arran. Maiden voyage to Aus. Then summer months cruising Med and Scandinavia, was a blast. Then back to Aus .
Was a bell boy on her. Emigrated to NZ and some years ago she turned up in Auckland and showed my family over her. Great memories.
