another way to look at it is the level is disobedience to the law. Yea, I know it rendered millions jobless but you can see how much people are willing to break the law. It’s sad!

@@timeeak4599 ok so lack of alternative is the reason to break the law ?

Don't get me wrong. I am not condoning their breaking the law..... the reality is that the environment in Nigeria is about survival.
The system is so flawed that for most of these people this their only form of livelihood. Out of desperation people would break the law. Once this is taken away a lot of these people would turn to crime if no alternative is available.

Nigeria need to come to a point where we are governed by the rule of law and equally where the welfarism of the masses is a matter of concern to the government.
Impounded bike owners were preinformed to "leave the main road" in six LGA of Lagos as stated in the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018 that
”no persons shall ride, drive or propel a motorcycle or tricycle on a major highway within the state, and any person in contravention of this provision commits an offence” and would be made to face the wrath of the law. Which was due to increase in crime rate and highway accidents
In my own opinion, they could have moved to the neighbouring communities to prevent a total demolition of their impounded motorcycle.
To however think that the Lagos state action is callous and crime-inciting is myopic, sentimental and illogical

To ban is easy, give us good roads, open up alternative routes.More busses on the already narrow streets is ludacris .if the government is pursuing a quality civilised society like the U.K,a city like london operates atleast 5 functioning airports, lagos has 1 that barely funtions, there are trians linking major areas inside the city of london, lagos as non within its borders
Am for the ban ,but we need a great many things that on its own would have subconsciously ban okada from peoples minds

  • @AlbertAde

People are just blaming govt for doing this. No one pray that he becomes victim of the okada rider who killed people over slight provocation. Hardly will you see any of them without sharp object to kill at will. If all are allow to carry sharp object as they carry you won't see all these nonsence killing but this is evil to the society. If all can operate and disharn of all sharp and dangerous weapon in their pocket then they are good to operate. I totally support this total ban for peace and value for human life.

Pls, can I ask a few questions?
      1. Does stopping Okada also erase the possibility of those former Okada riders kelling other people?
      2. What means of livelihood will the former Okada riders have? Isn't that important?
      3. As an offshoot of No. 2, if the employed Okada riders were dangerous enough to kell, don't you think that unemployed Okada riders are much more dangerous?
      4. This one is a little tricky because most Nigerians will not be able to relate; when crime is committed in a community, is it not the responsibility of the police to curb it? If a crime took up to an hour to be completed, why did the police not respond adequately?
The truth is that this is a failure of the security agencies. There should be helplines set up to address this sort of thing but instead of Government to take the hard route of creating a helpline that will save hundreds of lives, they choose to just take the cheap way out and BAN OKADA. What do they care, when they have armed escorts to go round with? Well, I feel for the common man. We are simply going to be stuck with thousands of unemployed Okada men... I believe you know what that might mean.
