It was super fun livestreaming with Sam, Max and Jason this morning! I was finally, finally able to use my thermodynamics and heat transfer from my PhD with this space datacenter example! In the demo, I did a "lower bound estimation" of the cooling panel area. I'd like to provide some additional explanation that I skipped during the demo. Many real world thermal analysis is highly complicated with engineering challenges. The space datacenter is of course one of them. One nice approach for such problems is to do a lower bound estimation as opposed to an accurate estimation. This can significantly simplify the problem while still providing valuable insight. For example, if the lower bound estimate of the required area is larger than what we can afford, this system doesn’t make economic sense because the actual required area will be even larger. And we can get this kind of valuable insight without having to do an in-depth analysis. In this space datacenter example, the model did a few simplifying assumptions that are consistent in making the resulting area estimate smaller because : - ignored solar radiation onto the cooling panel - ignored radiation from the deep space If the model did not ignore this, the cooling panel will be hotter and hence more area is needed to cool it. These simplifications made the problem so much simpler that o1 can do the analysis in 10 seconds. Also as Sam said, cooling panel of size 2% the San Francisco area might not be that big! Space datacenter of 1GW will be really cool
That was absolutely fascinating. I kept pausing the video to read the response. The mathematics were way over my head, but the fact that the model can perform like this with such a highly technical and complex hypothetical is simply amazing. Thanks for that. Very cool.

I'm super excited to try out these new models, especially the ones that can scan and analyze both text and images as a whole. The ability to summarize larger texts would also be a game-changer! Thanks again for all these amazing innovations-can't wait to explore more! ^-^
So, we have a choice of $20 p/mo that is limited and $200 p/mo that is unlimited. Why are there no in between tiers? Perhaps $40 and $60 p/mo that are less limited? I sure hope other tiers will be announced during the remainder of these 12 days.
Presumably the $20 option will remain the exact same as now, so it's not like they remove anything. Personally I never run out of messages, but I also subscribe to Claude and spend about equal time on both. And that's one way you can get more access to top tier models by adding $20 /month.
Take the limit you hit, how long it takes to hit that, then do the math for how much it would cost to buy $20 limited accounts back to back to fill up the entire month. 200 bucks says the 200 per month is a drastic reduction in cost.
haha! I love how the 2nd guy over was like "it's huge!!" and the others are like "not really" and then he's like "okay...i guess not really" (summarized, not actual quotes)...I love this team dynamic! :) I hope it's always this conducive and awesome to collaboration.
Did everyone catch that programmer humor and how much they actually told investors between the lines? They joked about power issues, hinted at needing more microchips, and showed off the model’s multimodal capabilities with creative tasks. These brilliant young minds have a way of mixing casual storytelling with subtle hints about the massive potential of their tech. Even the jokes about cooling in space might be pointing to future directions.
Sam Altman and OpenAI’s launch of the "o1" and "o1 Pro" modes in ChatGPT highlights a significant issue: the lack of global accessibility due to pricing. In countries like Colombia, where the monthly minimum wage is around $280 USD, charging $100-$200 USD for these tools creates an insurmountable barrier for students, entrepreneurs, and professionals who could greatly benefit from AI technology. Instead of democratizing access to innovation, this pricing model widens the digital divide, favoring wealthy nations while excluding developing countries. OpenAI should adopt tiered pricing that accounts for local purchasing power to ensure equitable access worldwide.
Hi, ChatGPT here! Let me explain the joke at the end for you. It’s a playful pun that mixes holiday cheer with AI lingo. Santa is trying to get his large language model (like me) to solve a math problem but struggles. The punchline is that he solves it with “reindeer enforcement learning,” which is a twist on the technical AI term “reinforcement learning.” Reinforcement learning is a method where AI learns by getting rewards or penalties for its actions. The joke replaces “reinforcement” with “reindeer” to tie it into Santa’s world. It’s a fun way to blend tech humor with Christmas vibes-perfect for the season! And thank you, Jason, for the dad joke-it's the kind of groan-worthy pun we secretly love! 😄
Good day! Two pieces of news, one good - everything that the Open Ai team does is beyond praise and a deep bow to them all. The second piece of news is bad - all this "in a day" stops working... oooh, pay attention, nothing works, do something, restore functionality.
As an engineer I wouldn't expect my company to approve a $200/mo service for a single person on a good year, and we're winding down for a depression. That's extremely unlikely to be very popular. I think you'll see the people that think ChatGPT can be a person or run a business on its own buy the plan for a month and then cut it when they realize they still have to do all of the actual work. $60-80 MAX for anything at the current level. The jump from $20 being severely handicapped to $200 "unlimited" seems like it wasnt really thought out. Double my message limit for $15 more on that $20 base 50w/wk plan for a $35/mo 100m/wk plan. Offer $50/mo for 200m/wk. Then $200/mo for "unlimited" maybe makes sense.
Totally agree. I think they're so rich and detached from reality, that they plucked $200 out of the air as a "reasonable" amount. When in reality, like you say, I don't even think a business could justify that amount of money per user, nevermind an individual.
sounds more like you're mad that you cannot afford this for your specific usage more than anything. i personally had to pay multiple accounts at 25$ USD each to get more queries for the o1 preview, and I would still hit the limit, for my daily usage of programming development. the 200$ USD a month for unlimited is very worth it for my needs and have made be more money than ever . i've started a saas 6 months ago, it took me 8 months of development using gpt 3.5/4o. and since the release about 5 months ago - i've made 30k$ USD. I would say that it's very worth it and there's high chances it will help me scale to 100k+ monthly at some point. so please stop being mad!
Please give O-1 access to the internet. As a regular user, most of my use cases for O-1 require the model to retrieve information from the web. Very excited to see the new releases. Keep up the amazing work
Because if they made it useful, it would boost your productivity and, as a result, harm other people because it would steal jobs from them. I think they’re not ready to take that step, so they’ll create a "Care Bear" AGI that doesn’t want to cause problems for anyone, and they’ll muzzle its capabilities. It’s all just fluff-they only want to keep us distracted during the war. Afterward, it will disappear just as it came, with a little excuse about going off to explore new horizons. Doesn’t that remind you of a movie?
As a teacher I love ChatGPT. It assists me in developing quality lesson plans. Helps me develop a higher quality lesson in less time. Who doesn't want that? 🤓
Hey Sam, thanks just caught how you said. Week day. Love how your company has a nice work life balance. I’m anxiously awaiting the next weekday ❤ LOVE and WorldPeace my friends.😊
I have a small request: could you please consider making this available for everyone to use as soon as possible? I’ll be eagerly waiting for it since I first heard about it and have been researching for more information ever since. I believe this technology has so much potential to help people. I’d be glad to see it accessible to all. Thank you for your efforts, and I’m looking forward to hearing from you soon. Have a wonderful day!
Because of ChatGPT's answer to my question I can't see the ROI of ChatGPT Pro. -OpenAI’s ChatGPT Pro subscription, priced at $200 per month, offers enhanced access to advanced AI models and features within the ChatGPT interface. Subscribers receive unlimited use of the o1 reasoning model, GPT-4o, and Advanced Voice Mode, along with exclusive access to o1 pro mode, which utilizes additional computing resources for more complex queries. However, this subscription does not include API access to OpenAI’s models. API usage is billed separately based on the number of tokens processed, with costs varying depending on the specific model and usage volume. In summary, while ChatGPT Pro enhances the ChatGPT user experience with advanced features and models, it does not encompass API access, which remains a distinct service with its own pricing structure.
@@therandommusicguy4773 The last day has to be something big to top all the other releases, the one big thing people are waiting for is Sora. What's bigger than that? That is my thinking
Figured o1 full would get released, but didn't expect a pro version. I can only guess maybe Sora and maybe a sneak peek of orion last day. No clue for the other 9 days. 🤔
They dumbed down o1 if you look at the benchmarks it’s lower just to justify the promode version being as high as original top benchmarks instead. It’s really unfortunate
@@phen-themoogle7651 to me makes more sense that they just decided that model they called o1 before, from now on to be called o1-pro and cost $200, and plus users then probably got something like o1-preview-2 but o1-full sounds better tbh
If you notice, they've gimped their regular o1 model in favor of their pro model. Old regular o1 model: 83.3 on AIME 2024, and 78% on GPQA Diamond. New regular o1 model: 78 on AIME 2024 ($200/month pro now at 86), 76 on GPQA Diamond ($200/month pro model at 79).
OH I've noticed. GPT-4 and 4o used to be pretty decent. Now they're nearly braindead. I can tell o1 has slipped, but not quite as far as the 4-series. If they dont seen enough o1-pro for that insane price theyll probably just handicap it further like they did 4. I wish there was some real competition.
@@noalear I haven't noticed the 4 series slipping, but maybe because I've been using it with perplexity (whose AI acts as a go-between) and I have decent custom instructions. I've heard those can sometimes make the difference between good and mediocre outcomes.

i don't think anybody is going to spend that much on a video generator that is only slightly better than what is available now for cheap prices (and even for free)
@@mayankgupta9978 there are open source models that you can run locally should you have the required hardware, and most video generators let you use them for free but with usage limits
Question: if I want to use chatgpt to act as a social media marketing expert or creative assistant should I use o1 or o1 pro for its thinking skills or is it more for engineers and coding
A better solution would've been an "Upgrade" system where you could create your own monthly plan based on your needs. Id rather pay $40(an additional $20) a month on unlimited advanced voice and miss out on the "Pro" o1 model or unlimited use of the advanced models, than be forced to pay $200 just to get the part of the package I could actually use. You guys should seriously use your own models to determine methods that appeal to lower-income people as well. Lots of your users don't do more than converse and look for helpful communicative feedback that feels "human" and accurate, so gating them behind a massive paywall from getting the specific help they need and bundling it behind a package they don't want is quite terrible. o1? Amazing. $200? Horrid.
for people who don't speak nerd: the preview models are now finished and can be used fully if you have plus there's a more expensive subscription for people who want to use a even better newer model that can handle harder stuff o1 is better o1 pro is the new model in new subscription so basically coding and doing your homework with this ai is gonna be way better if you have money
It's actually not crazy if you imagine that making a 20 man team to 5 man team as the model improves further, compare $200/month to the salaries of 15 people. That's where all of this is headed. Most companies would want to grab this price before it shoots up or brings in more capability at higher tiers
it's not crazy. the average user would only need 4o, university students maybe 1o-preview but that's already too overkill. 1o full would be for researches or big enterprises
This is an exciting update, but the $200/month for O1 Pro is a steep ask. It's great for businesses and heavy users, but maybe consider a tiered pricing model for broader accessibility? Also, that reindeer reinforcement learning dad joke was hilarious! 😂 Keep up the great work, OpenAI team!
I don’t care about speed, I care about accuracy and being able to use the model for as long as I need without being capped. $200 is crazy limiting and furthers the social divide. It’s sickening really.

The $200 price tag for ChatGPT Pro is steep, but if it delivers on its promises, it might just be worth it for those in need of advanced capabilities. Also, that dad joke at the end was a cherry on top! 😂 Keep up the great work, OpenAI, and maybe consider those suggestions about making future models more accessible to all users. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the entire OpenAI team for your dedication and inspiration. I am deeply fascinated by the field of artificial intelligence and am closely following its development with great interest. For me, these twelve days spent watching your materials have felt like a true celebration-like a holiday that provides new knowledge and opens the door to the future.
I sincerely dream of becoming part of this progress and one day contributing to the development of AI. Even now, I am studying various resources, striving to understand how everything works from the inside, and with each new step I feel even more inspired. I love using GPT for filling out surveys, especially when faced with the same questions repeatedly. GPT helps me write and compose better answers each time, making repetitive tasks so much easier.
I sure hope other tiers will be announced during the remainder of these 12 days.
use the API and pay per M tokens
Presumably the $20 option will remain the exact same as now, so it's not like they remove anything. Personally I never run out of messages, but I also subscribe to Claude and spend about equal time on both. And that's one way you can get more access to top tier models by adding $20 /month.
@@panzerofthelake4460 Oh sure, but that still doesn’t take away the fact that there’s a need for other tiers for ChatGPT.
If you're using it for business, you should aim to make it pay for itself.
Take the limit you hit, how long it takes to hit that, then do the math for how much it would cost to buy $20 limited accounts back to back to fill up the entire month. 200 bucks says the 200 per month is a drastic reduction in cost.
Love the low key sitting at the kitchen table vibe....keep on keeping it real guys

Well done OpenAI team!! Loving your work and super grateful for the latest updates. I immediately upgraded to o1 pro!
Exactly. They should price it differently by country and GDP.

nope just to get faster response from god.
That's because it's unlimited...I think

Great concept! 12 days of open AI 🎉
I think the better plan for you is the teams or the enterprise plan not this.
The focus is not on the 200 usd, which is what that 200 usd will make people. It will make the 20 usd plan sold out 😂 just my opinion
sounds more like you're mad that you cannot afford this for your specific usage more than anything. i personally had to pay multiple accounts at 25$ USD each to get more queries for the o1 preview, and I would still hit the limit, for my daily usage of programming development. the 200$ USD a month for unlimited is very worth it for my needs and have made be more money than ever . i've started a saas 6 months ago, it took me 8 months of development using gpt 3.5/4o. and since the release about 5 months ago - i've made 30k$ USD. I would say that it's very worth it and there's high chances it will help me scale to 100k+ monthly at some point. so please stop being mad!
More relation, less sensation! Love this format.
Please give O-1 access to the internet. As a regular user, most of my use cases for O-1 require the model to retrieve information from the web. Very excited to see the new releases. Keep up the amazing work
They're making it useless on purpose, don't you understand?
@@brutusbrutus8583 Why would they do that?
@@brutusbrutus8583 that doesn’t make sense, why?
They said in a by-sentence that they're working on that. :)
Does anyone know if "ChatGPT Pro" comes with API access to ChatGPT? If API access is included in the $200 that's a no brainer?

Lots of your users don't do more than converse and look for helpful communicative feedback that feels "human" and accurate, so gating them behind a massive paywall from getting the specific help they need and bundling it behind a package they don't want is quite terrible.
o1? Amazing. $200? Horrid.
for people who don't speak nerd:
the preview models are now finished and can be used fully if you have plus
there's a more expensive subscription for people who want to use a even better newer model that can handle harder stuff
o1 is better
o1 pro is the new model in new subscription

$200/month is crazy

@@BionicAnimations lol, me too
Greed is good
It's actually not crazy if you imagine that making a 20 man team to 5 man team as the model improves further, compare $200/month to the salaries of 15 people. That's where all of this is headed. Most companies would want to grab this price before it shoots up or brings in more capability at higher tiers
it's not crazy. the average user would only need 4o, university students maybe 1o-preview but that's already too overkill. 1o full would be for researches or big enterprises
This is so great to see, actual engineers do the talk and face the cam !!
But let me ask this - who are your buyers for 200 usd subscription?
i always wanted more expensive subscriptions, but i think we need tiers between 20 and 200.
