    Thank you very much for this video. Your scenery looking outbof your window, is breathtaking. I am a self taught artist. Still in the beginning stages. Been at it,and going strong for three years now. I'm homebound, and wheelchair bound. Because I have to have assistance when I go somewhere. Long story. But I have been dreaming of my art space. I have a three tear tray like yours. I keep my drawing supplies in. It is absolutely perfect. I love that it is on wheels, just like me lol! I am trying to make my space more grounded, it is hard, I also have my young grandchildren here, so I can't freely leave out my supplies. I found your space and I love it. The most inspiring part, was at the end, when you said, even in your bed,you can create beautiful things. That is what I need to hear. Because that is where I am daily. Thank you so much. I teared up.

    i love watching these videos, i always forget the people with small spaces have WHOLE BASEMENTS to store all the stuff that doesn't fit, meanwhile i'm over here in my apartment lolol like....ok, maybe it won't work for me but i still love to see it.

    • @MarianneVanderDussen
      @MarianneVanderDussen  Год назад +1

      I painted out of a small apartment for years and learned to minimize my setup, which I liked 🙂 I used to have my entire practice fit into two shoe boxes plus the canvas I was using on a collapsible travel easel that I’d take down and fold into my closet when I wasn’t using.
      I actually added a Billy/Oxberg unit to my space recently and it added tons of vertical height space with a nice narrow profile, I really like it! Now I can keep more books in the space.

    IKEA cart! Genius! I do hand printing e.g. monotype, linocut printing etc. I'm planning to use a Melltorp table from IKEA that I have (those things are indestructible because they have a really strong underframe and a melamine coated top, so even though the table is white it is amazingly wipeable! It's like magic!). I'm going to buy another couple of those and put them next to each other to make one, long sturdy work bench along 2 walls in an L Shape. I'm going to add heavy duty castors with brakes (there are some good ones on Amazon) as this lets me rearrange the space. It also means I have a bigger table if I have guests over for a meal (folding chairs are stored in the utility room). A moveable cart in place of the shelves I was planning is ideal, much cheaper and all visible as you are looking down on it. Brilliant idea! 💡

    • @MarianneVanderDussen
      @MarianneVanderDussen  Год назад

      I love that idea!!!! Being able to rearrange the space is absolutely fantastic, way to problem solve! I absolutely love ikea pieces that are indestructible, it’s much easier to work in a space that’s not precious. Happy creating and constructing!!!

    I might suggest additional floor or clamp on lamps with color corrected bulbs in them. It will give you additional lighting for when it is cloudy or evening.

    • @MarianneVanderDussen
      @MarianneVanderDussen  Год назад +1

      Hi Jeanett! Thanks for your comment! I’m going to do a separate video on my lighting setup, I have waveform bulbs in my overhead light but also two softboxes with waveform bulbs that I use for filming/working on cloudy days or evenings. They are 95CRI with a temperature of 5000K. I also have additional colour corrected bulbs that I can sub in and out of existing light fixtures so I can choose between cozy 2700K lighting for evening editing work or 5000K for working.

    Thank you!!! This is THE BEST studio video I've seen. I wish I'd seen it before I started working on mine! My biggest problem is that this same size room is also where my bedroom, TV and computer are! But I love your simplicity -- and I think we're re of same personality - in that I'd be better with the extra supplies hidden.
    I've purchased way too much paint!

    Thank you for showing your lovely art space. 😀 I can’t wait for mine. I’m going to have my garage converted into my art studio. It’s looks into my back garden. But I’m still saving the money for it. I think this whole year of more saving is needed.

    • @MarianneVanderDussen
      @MarianneVanderDussen  2 года назад

      That’s so exciting! Redesigning and repurposing spaces is so much fun, but you’re right, it can get expensive, especially if you have to insulate your garage.
      I wish I could share photos of what my studio looked like before I redesigned it in 2020…I was using a desk I got for $40 on Kijiji, thrifted shelves, a thrifted lamp, no curtains, and a rickety chair. Maybe I’ll post the photo to my community…

    Beautiful and thoughtful, and your voice is so calming. Please show us your easel setup in the space and the lighting for the easel. Lighting is quite challenging. What did you do with all the rest of your stuff? I have at least 5x the quantity of supplies collected over time.

    • @MarianneVanderDussen
      @MarianneVanderDussen  2 года назад +5

      Hi Elaine! I’m so happy you liked it and I will definitely do another video on my workspace and lighting.
      In terms of the rest of the stuff, I don’t really have anything else! What you see is what I have. The only thing not in my studio is some other canvases that are being stored in my basement. I’m not sure if you’ve heard of the Pareto Principle, but it’s essentially that 20% of your materials yield 80% of your results. Mine is probably more like 10-15% to 90-85%. I could run my entire art practice with probably 8-10 tubes of paint total per medium, and keep everything (brushes included) in a shoe box. Even that huge dahlia painting was created using five small tubes and one tub of acrylic paint…and I still have a bunch left over. A little goes a long way.
      For me personally, clutter impedes creativity, and adding more would not benefit my art practice. If anything, it may slow me down, because I’d feel guilty for not using something, or have a hard time finding what I actually need, when in reality all I need is in the proverbial shoe box. I barely ever use my coloured pencils or many of the colours in my dresser.
      I donate unused art supplies to local schools.

      @elaineweber2025 2 года назад +2

      @@MarianneVanderDussen Thank you Marianne for your quick and detailed reply. I consider myself a mixed media artist and am always collecting things to include in my art. Presently I am collecting rusty items!
      I find I like a lot of stimulus in things on my shelves and walls trigger my brain. But, currently I am feeling like I have too much around me since my paint space is surrounded by all kinds of stuff that naturally reside in the garage. I also have an area in my graphic design studio home office that I have devoted to collage.

I also appreciate the modesty with which you present your studio as I've seen plenty with all the latest gadgets, but little substance in the way of actual art. Your artwork is amazing! Anyway...I'm happy to sub your channel and I know there will be lots to learn from you. As for acrylic mediums, I'd be happy to learn whatever you have to teach in that regard - particularly the glazing medium or any others you may use to make blending acrylic paints a little easier. Thank you for sharing your skills!

      I appreciate that you appreciate the simplicity! I’m terrible with gadgetry (I swear it’s going to take me a year to learn how to use my new SLR), but I’ve had my little art cart and palette for nearly six years now and I imagine they’ll be with me until the end. They just work really well!
      I’ll definitely be doing a video on acrylic mediums and blending.

It's a refurbished Epson that I bought directly from the factory, here's the direct link to the product that I have but I don't believe they make it anymore. However, if you go to their clearance centre, there should be other refurbished models! epson.ca/Clearance-Centre/Projectors-for-Work/VS230-SVGA-3LCD-Projector---Refurbished/p/V11H552220-N
