Here's a tip for you when you're doing the car shot; when you moved from the tail of the car to the front passenger window, you accidentally filmed the contrasting closed window and the open window, so either use the camera to follow the feet of the actor through the ground clearance and up the passenger door, or just reverse the car so you would film directly through the passenger window without filming the back passenger window.
Yeah that was a great shot. Maybe having the back window down would have been better so you don't see the camera in the reflection. But yeah definitely going to try a variation of this for sure.
A lot of great ideas in here. It's crazy how just adding something as simple as standard threading on the bottom of the gimbal can make it so much more useful. Thanks for sharing!
Great ☝🏼 finally someone teaching cinematography with a gimbal Thank you my friend I think people just got lazy with gimbals instead of use them to make the shots that could be achieve like a one man band
That last car shot was awesome bro.. Only downside was that we could see your reflection through the car window. But you could easily mask that out on post. Great job dude. Thumbs up.
I’ve done these type of shots with just a monopod to mimic the motion of a gimbal.Of course the makers could only face down. I’ll be purchasing a Crane 2 in 2 weeks and I’ll be trying this combo as well.
Thank you so much Philip! You've been a HUGE inspiration to me all these years, so I'm kinda tripping out you just commented on my video! Thanks for all you do mate :)
Loved the car one especially - very clever! Silly question... Can you use a normal monopod to achieve this? Because ive just ordered the crane plus and now I'm broke lol
Sidney Diongzon Have you considered tilting the camera up for a moment to avoid the reflection? Or dropping the camera height to under the car window for a second?
Sidney Diongzon Yeah I can see that. Still, if you were to shoot an actual project, I think breaking the illusion is more harmful to the final piece than temporary bad composition
Put a monopod on my Zhiyun Crane 2 with 5dmk4 and 24mm L 1.4 mk 2 and the steel stud that connected and tightened the Crane with the monopod sheared and broke as I was doing a jib style shot.......and the Camera and Crane 2 fell on the concrete...........just the lens was damaged and a couple of small scratches to the Crane.
It could have been much worse, the lens, Crane and Camera all still function. The body of the lens cracked where the Crane baseplate supports the lens. I think its gonna cost about $200 to repair the lens assuming the lens elements do not have micro stress fractures.
Great shots learned a lot from this. One thing I would knit pick at is that we can see the camera and cameraman through the reflection of the car side windshields. Maybe having it rolled down would have prevented it.
I figured this setup out a couple of weeks ago but i've not had chance to try anything with it yet! Been trying to think of creative ways to use a 2m monopod and gimbal. Definitely getting used on my next shoot though for sure
A friend of mine recently shot a musik video and he used the overhead desk shot you showed for the "DJ-desk" - From watching your video I feel like especially walking backwards could be a lot easier with a monopod for some reason, I struggle to walk smooth in general. I'll be shooting "Portrait-Videos" next month with the sonya6500. I saw you filmed the a lot of similiar videos with the a6500 and the 30mm sigma. I have the 30mm sigma and the 18-118mm sony available, would you just stick with the 30mm for most shots? Thanks a lot! Love your channel.
You poop head! I got shots with a REALLY similar set up in December. And I was going to do a video JUST LIKE THIS. But you beat me to it. Well played sir.
Sidney Diongzon anytime. I just started off my RUclips venture so I'm trying to learn from other tech vloggers. Love your style. It's fun ! Thank you sir
I may be out of line here but most of these shots you could do without monopod... if you are tall enough :P but like the car shot - not even that is required...
I was just hoping you did something really crazy that would make me just go and sell my dog to buy this thing XD I guess it's a good thing you didn't as I love my dog. Thanks for a video! I will shoot that car scene pretty soon I think. I just got my Crane 2, never had one before (only borrowed for a few shots) and need to learn everything...which tbh is annoying... wonder if everyone got that "wrrr I hate that thing" after first few tries..
Thank you, these re great tips! Could you get rid of the refection in the rear window in post? Still learning and maybe this question has been answered already?
Loved the car shot! I have a challenging music video project coming up and I don’t have a gimbal but I do have a GoPro, an iPhone, DSLR, the pods, and a vivid imagination! This video sparked some ideas - thanks bro!
Sidney - I think you just sold me on this combo! Looks amazing. Glad to see your subscriber count constantly rising faster with each video. Great content. Keep it up!
Imagine how sweet it would be having the Zhiyun remote to the end of the monopod where you're holding it. Jib up, tilt down for instance. You can just get crazy with that.
Great work btw. Really love your channel. I'm kind of building up my gear atm also according to your recommendations. Gimbal and drone still missing, but hey. Slowly getting there.
That final oner with the car was insane! Loved it! (Really, really petty sidenote: If you would have rolled down the windows at the backseat, the reflection of the camera there probably could have been avoided - captain obvious out).
Been thinking about doing this with my Crane V2 but I wanted to make sure I could find something perfectly strong enough to hold it. This video is awesome man, great info!
hey can u please make a video on autofocus and its different modes and drive mode..and where to use which focus on both moving and stationery subject and also how to use touch for creative focusing..☺️
I think RUclips has been super instrumental in our success as well, because I think there's something really important about seeing and hearing what we're doing.
Cool Gimbal technique there Sid, Need to find a way to dismiss the window reflection though, when you gimming around car's back window. Another video to show how to counter that reflection might be cool to watch as a follow up video :D
With the camera persons reflection in the window...
The car shot is gold! Great collection, well done.
Thanks so much man!!
totally agree. Have to do a complex shot assessment next week at University, definitely trying that car shot
That’s awesome! I hope it turns out well!
Yeah that was a great shot. Maybe having the back window down would have been better so you don't see the camera in the reflection. But yeah definitely going to try a variation of this for sure.
Thanks so much! I might do a part 2 on how to remove and prevent reflections
My take away from this...I need more friends.
😂😂😂
Damn true
The continuous single take of the girl driving off was very well done. Loved it.
A lot of great ideas in here. It's crazy how just adding something as simple as standard threading on the bottom of the gimbal can make it so much more useful. Thanks for sharing!
Glad this was helpful!
I just ordered a gimbal. I had been researching for a few weeks now and your vids gave the courage to purchase. A Zhiyun Crane v2 is in the way!
That’s awesome! Have fun with it!
Great ☝🏼 finally someone teaching cinematography with a gimbal
Thank you my friend
I think people just got lazy with gimbals instead of use them to make the shots that could be achieve like a one man band
Thanks so much!! It was really fun to fill too, especially that last scene!!
The car shot blew my mind!!! Definately trying that with my crane 2!
Thanks! It was so much fun to film! Definitely try it out!
That is a noble concept to teach ahead.. Very helpful.
Thanks for watching!
That last car shot was awesome bro.. Only downside was that we could see your reflection through the car window. But you could easily mask that out on post. Great job dude. Thumbs up.
Yep, gonna do a tutorial on how to remove it!!
that car handoff shot was moneyyy
Thanks man!!!
I’ve done these type of shots with just a monopod to mimic the motion of a gimbal.Of course the makers could only face down. I’ll be purchasing a Crane 2 in 2 weeks and I’ll be trying this combo as well.
I'm excited for you! You'll love the Crane 2!!
That car trick was goooold!!! Just subscribed dude, you are very fun to watch, keep it up!! :)
Thanks so much!!! And HUGE thanks for subscribing!!
My pleasure Sidney! And Daamn, just saw you gave your LUTS for free for end of 2017 haha Planning on doing that again any time soon? haha
Maybe later this year :)
That car gimbal shot is so awesome man! Gives me more ideas! I'm getting mine in a few weeks. Super excited! Thanks again.
That’s so cool! Thanks for wstching
nicely done Sidney.
Thank you so much Philip! You've been a HUGE inspiration to me all these years, so I'm kinda tripping out you just commented on my video! Thanks for all you do mate :)
The car shot definitely gets my mind thinking of similar types of situations. Thanks for the tips
Glad this was helpful!
Thanks for this video Sidney! It wasn't just informative, It was a lot of fun to see!
Thank you so much!
Dude! LOVE that last shot, so seamless!
Thanks so much Aaron!
Loved the car one especially - very clever! Silly question... Can you use a normal monopod to achieve this? Because ive just ordered the crane plus and now I'm broke lol
Thanks so much! Yeah, I'm certain you can use any monopod with the Crane 2 :)
clever SN
Thanks!
I think nornal monopod use 3/8 size screw. Crane use smaller 1/4 scew. So you need buy a adapter. Then you will be fine.
Just ordered my crane plus. How do you like it?
Last shot with the car was epic 🎥🔥🙌
Thanks so much!!
damn each tip is progressively more intricate!
Thanks man! Yeah dude, I had no idea what you could achieve using this combo! Soooo much fun to film with!!
Good comparison review. All the shot comparisons were good and that last one passing off the gimbal was insane squared.
Thanks for watching!!
Nice!!! Really like the breakdown of the cat shot excellent bro keep these video coming
Thanks so much!
This video had me drooling. My favourite was #4.
Thanks! I’m gonna do a part 2 soon!
Showing the reflection of the gimbal in the car shot really breaks an otherwise awesome shot
Yeah, it was bummer, but I need to get the shot. I'm thinking about doing a "remove the reflection" video in the near future...
Sidney Diongzon Have you considered tilting the camera up for a moment to avoid the reflection? Or dropping the camera height to under the car window for a second?
I did that, but the composition wasn’t really balanced.
Sidney Diongzon Yeah I can see that. Still, if you were to shoot an actual project, I think breaking the illusion is more harmful to the final piece than temporary bad composition
Totally agree. Makes me want to try this again!
the car sequence was a revelation! thanks man.
Thanks so much!
Hey no worries. I just got the Smooth Q and I'm already figuring how to afford the crane. I love the shots the gimbal allows for.
Coool ☻ ☻
Thanks Zhiyun Team!!!
Oh no!!!!!!!!!!! So sorry to hear!! 😭😭😭
Yep, gonna make a tutorial on how to remove it!
Post masking required to remove your handsome mug from the car window
I figured this setup out a couple of weeks ago but i've not had chance to try anything with it yet! Been trying to think of creative ways to use a 2m monopod and gimbal. Definitely getting used on my next shoot though for sure
Awesome! Glad this was helpful. Thanks for watching!
Awesome!
Thanks for watching!
Dude, that last shot was absolutely genius. So well done. I loved this whole video, as per usual.
Thanks man! I've always wanted to do a shot like that. Blocking and timing is EVERYTHING!! Thanks for watching bro!
Great video. now I want a monopod. I'm broke. stop it.
BAHAHAHA! I never realized how much fun filming with a monopod is!
A friend of mine recently shot a musik video and he used the overhead desk shot you showed for the "DJ-desk" - From watching your video I feel like especially walking backwards could be a lot easier with a monopod for some reason, I struggle to walk smooth in general.

Hahaha!
Epic work man! That car shot changed my life haha
You poop head! I got shots with a REALLY similar set up in December. And I was going to do a video JUST LIKE THIS. But you beat me to it. Well played sir.
Poop head...LOL.
That... last shot....was brilliant. Subscribed!
Thank you so much!!
Sidney Diongzon anytime. I just started off my RUclips venture so I'm trying to learn from other tech vloggers. Love your style. It's fun ! Thank you sir
awesome, now can you give me the gimbal, I have my own monopod
LOL
Loved the last one, really cool and creative. Offers a nice perspective that you only seem to see in Hollywood films.
Thanks so much man! It was really fun to shoot!
I may be out of line here but most of these shots you could do without monopod... if you are tall enough :P but like the car shot - not even that is required...
Probably, but using a monopod is really helpful to create those "jib" shots! Thanks for watching!
Loving that car shot, definitely wanna take some of these as inspiration to use the Crane in new ways!
Thanks so much man! Yeah, definitely try it out!
That car sequence is amazeballs!
Thanks so much! It was so much fun to film!
Thank you, these re great tips! Could you get rid of the refection in the rear window in post? Still learning and maybe this question has been answered already?
I had a similar setup shooting a doc at the web summit in Lisbon back in November. Yeap it works even for crazy interviews
That's awesome!
Loved the shots and we the new Crane2 users would be grateful if you could kindly do a detailed tutorial on different modes offered by Crane2
I can but there’s a bunch of tutorials on the Crane 2 out there already! Probably better tutorials than I can produce!
That car shot was amazing! Genius!
Thank you!
Awesome! Great work dude! Just have to add your smartphone as a monitor and you're set!
Thanks so much Rob! I really appreciate it!
That long car shot was wayyy to badass.
Haha, thanks man! It was super fun to film!
I love videos like this, straight to the point.

Loved the car shot! I have a challenging music video project coming up and I don’t have a gimbal but I do have a GoPro, an iPhone, DSLR, the pods, and a vivid imagination! This video sparked some ideas - thanks bro!

Super cool, gave me a lot of ideas. Car shot is tricky with your reflection, but still pretty awesome.
I'm gonna make a tutorial on how to remove reflections!

3:59 This reflection happened to me in our town's 48 hour film festival, and none of us noticed until the screening. Classic
Thanks for the tutorial. I have a question, how do you manage to keep focus on subject while taking such shots?
All autofocus!

Yep. Hoping to make a tutorial soon on how to remove it!
@@SidneyDiongzon Sure... I want to learn that... Thanks
That final oner with the car was insane! Loved it! (Really, really petty sidenote: If you would have rolled down the windows at the backseat, the reflection of the camera there probably could have been avoided - captain obvious out).
You're probably right! Makes me want to do a tutorial on how to remove reflections though...

Loved the magic shot !!
Thanks so much!!
I think RUclips has been super instrumental in our success as well, because I think there's something really important about seeing and hearing what we're doing.
Cool Gimbal technique there Sid,
Need to find a way to dismiss the window reflection though, when you gimming around car's back window. Another video to show how to counter that reflection might be cool to watch as a follow up video :D
Yeah, I’ll have to figure that out one day. I just wanted to focus on the blocking and single take. One day..
How do you start and stop recording with the gimbal at the end of a monopod? Love your video tricks!!!
I just pressed record before I pushed the gimbal up
Some really great shots there.
Thanks John!
Love your fun attitude. Gonna try the car shot now!
I liked that car shot! That’s cool 😁👍
Thanks!!!
Super fun video to watch..loved it
Thanks so much for watching!!
REEELY neat - Love your ideas!
Thanks for watching!
Awesome ideas - thanks for sharing
