I've torn down SPD's like that before, and was amazed to find tiny bearings and sometimes left hand threads! Getting the bearings properly adjusted was a bit fiddly. I've been told that the preferred overhaul technique is to just squirt some grease into the bottom of the pedal body. When the shaft & bearings are inserted, the new grease will now be forced up through the ball bearings and along the shaft. After trying it, it does seem to work.
Did you not check with the pedal's documentation (user manuals, exploded views, etc.) first before starting? (so that you know what you'll be getting yourself into)
@@yonglingng5640 I never found the manual for the A520 pedal. Interestingly, I have some A520 pedals where the right pedal uses the left hand threads, and some that don't. Shimano was not consistent.
1) place and clear inner parts in solvent, dry, no need detach inner bearing 2) put new grease inside the pedal 3) Excess grease will be squeezed through the oil seal during assembly.
Great video !!! I agree with your choice to fully disassemble the pedals for rebuild & repack. You get to see the condition of all parts with a complete breakdown.
Nice video to watch but unnecessary to extract all the bearings. Changing grease in Shimano pedals is such a joy with just adding grease to the cleaned body an screwing everything back together. The new grease will push out the old grease. Very satisfying to do.
No need to remove those PIA tiny bearings. Clean axle and pedal body. Put grease in pedal body and on threads. Tighten up and the pressure will push out the dirty grease and run smooth. Quick and easy.
Why the silly rubber gloves and the expensive aerosol cleaner? The gloves are just a fashion thing and you can clean bike parts much more cheaply with paraffin or kerosene or white spirit or turps substitute. Just empty the tray into an old bottle and the dirt will settle out in a day and you can re-use the cleaner again and again.
If we're talking about gloves, it's a personal preference really, some people just don't like to have dirty and greasy hands. And if we're talking about the brake cleaner spray type of thing you can use anything that you have on hand that will do the job...
I think the parent commenter didn’t realize that the OP is a professional mechanic. Good luck doing that without using gloves and using unpractical products that make you waste time.

Good video. Experts will know what to do differently, but the average dude will learn a lot.
Yes! It's quite a good system, my Saint flat pedals are the same.
Thank you Sr.!
Shimano XTR 😍 💦 I know these aren't the lightest pedals but by far my favorites

Super Video 🎉
simliar process for XT pedals?
Too much grease no? I always thought you don’t over do it
THIS IS SICKBIKER VIDEO!!!!

Wow

Nah, too little actually

I never heard brake cleaner called “expensive aerosol spray”, probably because it’s like $5 for a bottle
@@ervin7178exactly, that stuff is not that expensive, i think he might be a bit broke.
