@@othervoices76 absolutely not, Morrison was integral to the Doors and the foundation. The only worthwhile work they did was An American Prayer. Nothing they did after is any good. Believe it or not, even if Jim Morrison hadn't died, there was a real possibility that he'd quit the music business. His drunken behavior was way out of control by the time he left for Paris & one of the biggest reasons he went there in the 1st place was to try & get his act together. Trust me, I myself wish that Jim hadn't died & would've loved to see The Doors last for at least another 5 to 10 more years. But realistically, who knows if Morrison would've made it to 30 years old with the lifestyle that he had.

Wow, this is great. Saw the Doors in concert with and without Morrison. The first time at Carnegie Hall without Jim, we actually half expected him to come out on stage because Ray, in particular, had been suggesting that Jim might have faked his death and run off to Africa. Such was the mystical aura around Morrison and the band. Would have loved to hear Morrison sing Ship with Sails. No disrespect to Ray but just not the same sans Morrison. Regarding Densmore, he was great as people suggest here in comments. Just saw a John Coltrane documentary that John appears in talking about having seen the classic Coltrane band in LA with Elvin Jones on drums five or six times. John acknowledges Jones stylistically as an influence and of course the whole middle section of Light My Fire was inspired by Coltrane. Doors remain one of the gold standard iconic groups in the history of rock music. 50 plus years later- still relevant. Thanks for the post.

Glad I saw this but not necessarily for the performance itself. The description mentions: “If you’re a fan of Jim Morrison only and not The Doors you probably won’t like this.” For me it’s an impossibility to be a Morrison “only” fan. The Doors have been my personal favorite for over 40 years and the truth is simple: The members are hopelessly intertwined. Without the Doors (especially Ray) there is no Lizard King and without Jim there is no Doors. This is a valiant effort, by three extremely talented musicians, to stay relevant after tragic circumstances but it most definitely isn’t The Doors. Just as I could have never envisioned Morrison carrying on without Ray, Robbie, and John, this just doesn’t work for me musically. What it does do however is make me realize, in vivid color and somewhat haunting reality, how much more these three were blessed by Morrison’s life and cursed by his death than were us mere fans.

Ray Manzarek was such a great person!!! He was nice and kind to people and a good friend, father and husband! You could always count on him! (Many people who knew him have admitted this! He was also a highly intelligent man! It must have been very fascinating, to talk with him about history, art, or just his job! But at ONE point I disagree with you guys! He was NOT as good singer, as you guys want belive he was! 1973, two albums later, the band has broken up...and THAT´s the best proof!
But Ray was a FABULOUS musician ANYWAY!!! His way of playing was extrardinary...and served as a "framework" for the spirit of the band!
(It´s all just MY own opinion...and I understand, if someone has an another one!)

I saw the Doors of the 21st century in 2003 with Ian Astbury singing. It was awesome as Ian channeled Jim. If they were going to continue in 1972, they should’ve got another singer. John Fogerty, Iggy Pop, Paul Rogers we’re all looking for a new gig around 1972. Ray couldn’t be the charismatic front man that the Doors needed

Hope somebody posted OTHER VOICES & FULL CIRCLE! Let's all look for some blues!! Didn't work in early 70's but COULD BE APPRECIATED TODAY!! The legendary DOORS!
