The cornerstone of any great large building usually shows a persons, or things that were responsible for it's being built. The Constitution of these United States needs to have a cornerstone also; And that cornerstone should show all sacrifices of the millions of Native Americans, from the days of Columbus, to the killing of the buffalo, to the Indian Removal Act, the stealing of Mt Rushmore, The Wounded Knee Massacre, to over 100 Indian Wars, were the sacrifices made by those Native Americans, so that all white Americans could call themselves "A Free Nation". The European Americans, back then, were very hypocritical, by claiming "In God We Trust", and "We are a Christian Nation", "Founded in the wisdom of God". Yet they thought nothing about the wrong being done to all Native Americans. Do you suppose God was on their side? If he was, that would make God a murderer of thousands of Native Americans. Christian religion is the assumption that God was, or was not, responsible for the outcome of an event. In the days of Columbus, there were over 20 million Native People living on this continent, and they spoke over 1000 languages, of the many tribes. Today, there are about two million Native Americans, and only about eight Native American Languages remain. They all lost their lives trying to protect their homes and families, and defend their FREEDOM, from those foreign European invaders. Our Star Spangled Banner ends with these words: "O're The Land Of The Free, And The Home Of The Brave." . . . . . . "This Land Is Your Land"
Hugo, you've tried for noble sentiments and want to further enoble Indians by comparing to those Europeans whom you suppose "thought nothing about the wrongs being done to Native Americans". So, why not educate yourself about the history? There are numerous first-hand accounts (primary history) by persons intimately familiar with Indians from the early 16th through the late 19th centuries; the observations of those who fought them as well as those allied to them; and by historical monographs over the last 200 and more years. So, too, there are numerous accounts by the Indians themselves , and the Plains Indians winter counts showing the most remarkable events during successive years. You will be surprised by what you learn if you put yourself to it rather than relying on the comfort of modern sensibilities and angst. As always, true history is more interesting, more subtle, more revealing than the myths spun around it.

Bob Troll Heath Maybe they didn't have a choice. With the Americans moving west I could only assume they lost their original homeland in battle and moved inland. It wasn't right for them to slaughter the other tribes but maybe it was for their people and future generations.
