    One of the best tutorials I've seen. Never been happier for RUclips to recommend a video I saved in an art tutorial playlist ages ago. Inspired me to do some spray paint art again

    Thanks for the vid! How did you touch the straight edge to the paint without it messing up? Mine always messes up if I touch the page. Thanx!

    • @CraySpray
      @CraySpray  7 лет назад

      don't put to much pressure. slightly tilt the straight edge to the direction you are dragging it

    this is amazing! I just did my first spray art tonight and I'm trying to learn the tricks of the trade. do you use regular spray paint or glossy? thanks!

    • @CraySpray
      @CraySpray  7 лет назад

      glossy is all i use. Mat finishes dont really look right when they dry with this kind of ART but sometimes it works

    If I were to use a blank masonite as my canvas would you suggest gesso-priming or priming with spray paint?

    • @CraySpray
      @CraySpray  6 лет назад +1

      If you going to prime it first, Use spray paint and Try your best to do an even job making it as smooth as possible. Using Gesso (although awesome on standard Canvas) leaves a bit of texture which could be good if thats what your going for but most times, you want a glossy smooth finish

    • @atlaslalonde9482
      @atlaslalonde9482 6 лет назад +1

      CraySpray I tried painting over gesso and it did work pretty well, but I started painting on shiny Bristol paper instead and I noticed that when it's on a primed surface the colors aren't as bright as they are when I used the Bristol paper.
      Thanks for replying!!

    how do you keep the poster board from moving? i attempted to make a simple skyline earlier today, but i kept dragging the whole thing. should i use more clear coat so that the scraper will slide?

    • @CraySpray
      @CraySpray  7 лет назад +1

      Don't over use clear coat, it will over saturate the paint and make it looks ugly. Use either double sided tape on the back corners of the poster board or tape that's been rolled up so its sticky on both sides

    • @perpetualapocalypses
      @perpetualapocalypses 7 лет назад

      Yeah, kind of figured that out the hard way with the clear coat lol. Will definitely use tape next time!

    • @CraySpray
      @CraySpray  7 лет назад +2

      honestly, Rustoleum is the best for the price. You can spring the extra 4 dollars and get MTN hard core or gold but that will run you anywhere between $7 - $15 per can.

    Question, how much pressure that needs to scrape the paint? I'm always ending with A LOT of excess paint :/

    • @CraySpray
      @CraySpray  7 лет назад +1

      if you are having a lot of excess paint, work on not spraying as much onto the paper. Also, the harder you press down, the more the color below it will shine through so if there is a lot of paint on the top layer, it becomes very hard to work with

  • @unorthodoxuk8878
    @unorthodoxuk8878 7 лет назад +1

    Hey dude I've got an art exam in the morning and I'm using this as a technique in my final piece but every time I seem to do this it seems to leave excess paint after I scrape it to reveal the building ,any tips on how to fix this?i would gladly appreciate it bro!

    • @CraySpray
      @CraySpray  7 лет назад

      excess paint will always be there but you should have a lot if you are only doing a couple of buildings. spray a less on the top coat of paint and that should take care of it.

    • @unorthodoxuk8878
      @unorthodoxuk8878 7 лет назад +1

    Hey man, I like your video. What paper do you use

    • @CraySpray

      regular poster you got at walmart, use the glossy side

  • @adinab9012
    @adinab9012 7 лет назад

    also, if you paint on canvases, how do you not puncture the canvas with the straight edge? thanks!

    • @CraySpray
      @CraySpray  7 лет назад

      the canvas is pretty think. I wouldn't worry about puncturing it. Use the same amount of pressure as you would a poster board

    hi I am 17 and like to try and do some spray paint art but none of my pieces are shiny or glicining like the ones in video am I using the wrong kind of spray paint or wrong type of paper , can you suggest me some type of paper to work with

    • @CraySpray
      @CraySpray  5 лет назад

      make sure the paint you us is high gloss paint and the poster board is on the glossy side, not the flat Non-Glossy side. If you mixed flat or semi-gloss paint in with high gloss paint, you will get weird results. Let me know if that helps!

      You can buy it at Home Depot, Lowes, etc.
      It's a drywall tool, used for smoothing the mud when doing sheet rock work.

  • @drjim933

    Will all this work on wood? Or does it have to be on paper?

    • @CraySpray
      @CraySpray  7 лет назад +1

      the wood would have to be very smooth for it to look correct. also, put a sealer on it before hand so the paint doesnt soak in the wood.

    Could I do this on a canvas?

    • @CraySpray
      @CraySpray  6 лет назад

      you can! just spray a little more paint than usual but it would have the same affect. Only think is if you push down too hard, it will show the texture of the canvas in the buildings.

    how hard do you press?

    • @CraySpray
      @CraySpray  6 лет назад +1

      ummm Not super hard because you don't want to scrap all the paint off. Use a medium amount of pressure and go from there more or less. Its one of those things where u have to practice to know how hard to press. One thing you can try is spraying the colors and drying them before you spray the black.

    my tip - use the respirator ! , if you obviously cant narrate the video while doing - record it after and track it to the video in post production !. its not that hard with a basic video editor. safety first - not trolling .
