I have been learning spray paint art for about 3 months now. This is by far the best tutorial I have watched. And I’ve watched a lot. Easily over 100 tutorials. I don’t know why it took so long to find you, thankfully I did. Again, simply an amazing tutorial in so many ways. Thank you.
Hey Dean, I'm 64 this October and been partially successful with acrylic mediums and brush on canvass when middle aged. I lost my talent somewhere along the way...until 2 weeks ago i bought a box of spray tins. My first two basic paintings turned out good but lots of mistakes. I have subscribed to a few artists but today i found this painting by yourself and am floored ! The best easy to follow turorial of all I've seen. Not taking away from the other guys but your talent and realism is BETTER ! Yes,you CAN teach old dogs new tricks....LOL. If the old dog finds the correct teacher. Thanks man, i will soak up all your videos.
Your comment really hit me. Thank you. I love hearing I was able to connect with and help people. I'm glad you have gotten back into your love of art and I hope my other videos are as helpful to you.
really appreciate you explaining details on how one paint is thinner than the other and that i works better for mist, how to wet the paint more with clear coat, etc. lots of great beginner tips i haven’t seen in others videos at all. one thing i’d like to hear is the explanation of how far to hold the paint nozzle away from the poster board when doing different techniques and why. ie the glow around the planets, the clouds. also the name of the colors and brand krylon/rust-oleum. thank you so much. you’ve been the most help so far. i’ve just started and receiving receiving info in layman’s terms is so helpful
Distancing is all about feel. As I painted outside wind was always a factor and as such I had no set distance. That would just take trial and error. I dont remember the names of the colors I used with, been a while and I have actually moved primarily into pencil art. You can see what I do now and message for tips on my Instagram instagram.com/artistic_dean
Thank you so much for your time here, things like cold paint being having a negative effect and making it splatter I was wondering cuz I’m in Seattle and it be cold here and yes my stars look like shot smh now I know why. Thanks for being so thorough in this video!💕
That is not an amazing compliment, nice, but lazy and trite, it's like saying why can't you be more like your brother? An amazing compliment would be specially designed for him to show case how impressed you're with his abilities. "Wow, what an innovative and unique idea, his skill sublime, an his teaching abilities outstanding, this young man took Bob Ross idea, intensified it and created nothing but beauty and wonder." I witnessed artist doing this in Vegas weeks ago, thought it would be hard to learn, but thanks to you I am more than willing to start my project, Bob Ross couldn't have explained it better. You my friend get 2 likes and a new follower.
I have watched a lot of these videos lately.Usually they only explain a few tips and tricks.I appreciate the way you actually explain the details. It helps us newbs alot....
After a week at the beach and being fascinated watching a guy on the boardwalk I want to explore this genre of spray paint art. This tutorial is so helpful. Your explanation and execution of the techniques are top notch. Thank you.
Daym, was just arsing around with bottle bottoms in the garage last night, wish I watched this first. Now I gotta go buy more as I just HAVE to retry tonight!
So here later this month or next i plan on starting up spray paint art, so I've been all over the place looking at different peoples tutorials and ways they do thing. I have to say the way you do your clouds looks the best that I have seen! for sure will incorporate that into some of mine! And the way you did your planets i really liked. Ill be returning to see more of your stuff as i start out my painting!
I rarely 'like ' videos. I liked yours. You're a natural teacher. I kept thinking..oh he's effed it up now, and then it'd turn out fab. The car alarm in the background! The struggle is Real. My art vid has tractors being driven in the background 😂 Thanks!
Thank you so much. I actually thought I was a bad teacher so thank you. And yes I live next to a gas station and a major highway in SoCal so I always have noise when outside. That's why I've started doing drawing videos too so I can do artwork and have some peace and quiet.
Hey Dean just want to start by saying that the picture is awesome and you great. I'm so glad I found this tutorial. I live drawing and painting and have been wanting to try this for a long time but never knew where to start or how to go about it. You made it extremely easy to follow. I'm definitely going to watch your cloud tutorial because those look amazing. Thank you again and can't wait to see more of your work
Subbed. And love the video. So very helpful. I always struggled with the mountains and the landscape, and following along I see how it works. Thank you my guy
Glad to hear that you found it helpful. Most of my vids are sped up but I do have some others on clouds and eclipses and such that are slowed down and step by step
I love the art you do! My only thing spray paint cans are explosive and putting a flame anywhere near them can lead to an explosion, spraying metal shrapnel everywhere. I just ask you viewers if you do the fire trick please be very careful! A solution for this that I learned from Commando Designs is to use a hair dryer to help your paint dry faster, it’s also much safer.
I actually do use a blow dryer most of the time. But I do like how instantly the flame seals the paint. That's why the street artists use it over a blow dryer. But it does come with hazards so I don't personally recommend anyone try it.
Thank you for your kind words. I enjoy sharing what I've learned. Hope your first turns out good. If it's a little cold where you are I have another video about painting in cold weather
When I get ready to do my first spray paint art, I'll have a great teacher to turn to...I'll watch your video & follow your instructions! Thanks man!! You are awesome! :-)
Wow thank you for the kind words. I want sure how helpful this video would be when I first uploaded it but I'm so excited with the outcome. Thank you and I hope you find it helpful. Fair warning tho. Spray art is very addicting lol

Hi I love the painting thank you for video is awesome I just started painting last week and is my first time doing spray painting I make two canvas with galaxies
I wish you luck and welcome to to spray art. I actually do pencil work these days but I still have advice and such. You can follow and message my Instagram with questions instagram.com/artistic_dean
I know this video is old but I just recently been watching alot of spray paint art and gotten into it and yours out beats all of the others thanks so much for the tutorial. I will be using all of your techniques in my next up coming art works
you are the reason i thought about changing to Krylon well I am so glad I did, I love it!!!! Rustoleum is good for large coverage areas and making planets bur krylon and montana definitely for shading and details woo hoo
WOWWWW, AMAZING. I am an regular acrylic painter. But this made my heart skip a beat. I watched it with a lot of admiration. You are very talented my friend. And you explain it very well. I do have some Cheap Spraypaint at home. Will try on a primed canvasboard. Just for the feel of it. Will never be as Bright & amazing like yours though 😉. What Brand and which colors do you advice for a beginner Spraypaint enthousiast? Thank you for this amazing tutorial 🙏 Greetings from the netherlands.
Wow, well done. I´m a starter at Spray Painting and get much inspiration fro, this kind of videos. One short question: how do you clean that foam brush? I´m afraid the normal aggressive cleaners will destroy the foam.
this video was awesome unfortunately i had already made the mistake of getting a planet stencil that had a huge rim and putting it on while the paint was still wet. it was however my first attempt and i realised the mistake but to see someone explain it is really cool, also i hope to use some of the other techniques in this video
So I want to do something like this for something to put in my new room and it would be my first time actually working with spray paint and I’m a little nervous but I think fallowing this I can do it
I also use green scotch bright pads that I tear up for clouds. It allows paint to pass through slightly to give a texture, but also gives a brighter edge like the poster board.
Watched AGAIN for 4th time 😁 why don't other videos give the paint colors ,like you do. It's very helpful in creating the look they portray. Thank you for doing that. 😎
Thank you, I have just started to learn spray paint art and this video has helped me alot, I hope you will do more slow tutorials like in the future this showing your techniques as you go along with the artwork :)
Definitely a cool video man. I forgot how much i missed doing this. It's getting a bit chilly outside for it but i should certainly break out the paints and lay something down over Thanksgiving. Any tips on painting during cold weather?
could you do I diy section that teaches you the basics on designs? such as planets in one video and maybe clouds in the next? it might be a short video but at least it gives beginners a starter edge on how you could change up paintings. also thanks on the tutorial!! Very helpful and very Thuro.👍
Brandon Davis I plan to do some more tutorials along those lines in the future. I do have a cloud tutorial on if you wanna check it out tho. Thanks for the compliment. 😁
started laughing early in the vid when you were talking about the importance of ventilation. I didn't worry about that too much about that on my first attempts and I managed to paint the inside of my pc. The fan pulled the over spray into the case and left a purple residue over everything. The guy who had to fix it seemed more angry about the colour than anything else. Nice one mate.
sally case yes I use gloss paints. I don't have too big of issues with clogging but when I do I just change out the caps. Another thing u can do but it's tedious is when you finish spraying for the day take the nozzles off and blow them out with canned air or something like that.
I have a question, if it's been asked I apologize I did not read through all the comments. But I've learned alot from your videos, so thank you much. But with the masking tape. How do you keep the paint from bleeding through or seeping underneath? Because I've tried it many times and 75% ended with smudges under the masking tape
Awesome video for beginners man! Glad to see other artists being proactively engaged & inspiring others by making a work of art; such as this, So simply demonstrated! *cyber high five!!!* lol.
Waow! really beautiful!! I will try to make one with these colors!! Just one (two) question, what's the "transparent" spray paint? and where can I buy it? Thank you for your answer, have a nice day :)
I generally get bored or lost following a tutorial, but this one kept my attention and I feel like maybe I learned a few tips!! Thank you so much. I'm about to start a dragonfly made from fan blades.(wings) I would like to have a galaxy look to them. Any tips? Wish me luck!
Thank you so much. I think your idea sounds awesome. I've never tries anything to that level so I wouldn't know what advice to give other than dont get scared. Worse case you blank it out and start over. Good luck.
This might be a silly question but what size poster board did you use as Ive been doing all mine on 11 X 14 and my paper seems small to try to attempt this pic😂. Love this one though still just getting started though. Also found that the Hobby Lobby poster board isnt as thick as Walmarts😢. Thanks for the tutorial love it.
I just finished painting a guitar in that satin Lagoon..it looks incredible in Florida sun..It almost has a flip flop effect..in certain lights you can see alot of greenish in it bur sometimes looks straight blue
You have an amazing talent. Have you got any precise tips for beginners? as I am preparing myself to try my own pictures. My artistic skills have been limited to graffiti my whole life but I am looking to branch out and decided this would be a good challenge and new experience.
wow.. that was amazing to watch tho as a beginner i dunno if i can do this but love the paper ya using and easy things around house.. arrh California .. nice.. looks like rain in melbourne australia lol
Have faith in yourself, of course you can. Although rain can dampen the mood. If you ever want tips from a local hit up Kris Daley om facebook. He is an Australian spray artist and a telented one. The key to this art is learning to control the spray of the paint, as in aiming and amount. Most beginners use far too much paint, as I did once upon a time. Just practice when you can and you'll be amazed how fast you progress.
I have been learning spray paint art for about 3 months now. This is by far the best tutorial I have watched. And I’ve watched a lot. Easily over 100 tutorials. I don’t know why it took so long to find you, thankfully I did. Again, simply an amazing tutorial in so many ways. Thank you.

started laughing early in the vid when you were talking about the importance of ventilation. I didn't worry about that too much about that on my first attempts and I managed to paint the inside of my pc. The fan pulled the over spray into the case and left a purple residue over everything. The guy who had to fix it seemed more angry about the colour than anything else.
Nice one mate.
thanks for all your tips. Do you use gloss paints aand how do you deal with blocked aerosols and nozzles.
sally case yes I use gloss paints.
Awesome video for beginners man! Glad to see other artists being proactively engaged & inspiring others by making a work of art;
such as this,
So simply demonstrated!
*cyber high five!!!* lol.

Cool beans! I'll have to check that out! 😊😉
Waow! really beautiful!! I will try to make one with these colors!! Just one (two) question, what's the "transparent" spray paint? and where can I buy it? Thank you for your answer, have a nice day :)
Its gloss clear cost and I generally get it the same places I get my other paint. Hardware stores and craft stores also carry these paints.
Good luck.
@@ArtisticDeanCreations I've started on it. Dont know how to send a picture lol
Incredible stuff man.
Most were 11x14 but I just got out and buy the biggest ones I can and trim them to size after.
I just finished painting a guitar in that satin Lagoon..it looks incredible in Florida sun..It almost has a flip flop effect..in certain lights you can see alot of greenish in it bur sometimes looks straight blue
It really is a nice color choice
You have an amazing talent. Have you got any precise tips for beginners? as I am preparing myself to try my own pictures. My artistic skills have been limited to graffiti my whole life but I am looking to branch out and decided this would be a good challenge and new experience.
Reece Stewart I recommended starting with just planets and then moving up to nature and landscape types like this one. And don't rush. Take your time
U r magic man. I have watched 40000 times.plz teach us more
Well thank you. Hopefully I can get time to make more videos soon. But I've moved into pencil drawings lately
wow.. that was amazing to watch tho as a beginner i dunno if i can do this but love the paper ya using and easy things around house.. arrh California .. nice.. looks like rain in melbourne australia lol
@@ArtisticDeanCreations Thank you, also have a friend who has one of ur paintings.. what a trip lol
You’re insane mate! Got me inspired to get into this 🔥🎨
Thank you. It's a very fun artform. I hope you enjoy it
