    I made a comment about not being able to watch "this crackhead" anymore. I since learned more about this guy and I have to apologize. He is much more and much deeper than early 1st impressions.He is a highly energetic talented and accomplished musician and I now give him all the props he deserves Shows what I knew back then. Go figure.

      Yea... this guy is way more talented than I'll ever be. Probably because I'm not a professional musician but he is. However, these are the type of people I like hanging around with, phil x, for example... I don't like hanging around haters that don't know what they're talking about. Fuckin' hater.

    for all y'all curious about phil's energy... my favorite jam partner is a 73 year old cancer survivor - who you'd expect to be on a pacemaker and in a wheelchair.. but he can play all out from 5pm till 5am. absolutely rocking everything from del shannon to the eagles to playing background to my solo work. now, they never had a medical diagnosis when he was younger, but recently a doctor informed him he is ADHD. so i think it's that simple.. some people are wired different and just happen to put that energy towards something positive like music.. :)

    Phil is a hoot - and he obviously takes his guitar playing very seriously. It is ironic that he is highlighting all these very expensive vintage guitars b/c he is a clear example that IT ISN'T THE GUITAR - its' the guitar player. I mean really how many players would take the time to learn that Hotel California guitar harmony solo in double-time! We all wish there was a drug that would give you this much energy and still allow us to maintain our focus and the quality of our performances - but there ain't. Energy and commitment like this comes from the inside - and from God. Keep it up Phil - you rock!

    Phil X I have the same brain "defect" as you, i.e., ADHD. It was obvious to me the first the time I saw one of your videos. "Normal" people think your crazy but I find you completely normal and very enjoyable. The fact is that our brains run at 78 R.P.M. and the rest of the world is at 33 1/3. Your "brain heat" lights up a room. PS Dont ever change, not that you could!

      1800NoFault ditto. I saw it in PX the very first time. His hyper-focus is so guitar/tone. That's not where mine ever stuck for long, so my guitar playing has always been 2nd rate. LOVE the show and just as you, see some of me in the mental state of PX. Still catching up watching 4 or 7 videos at a time.

    For Sure! I Hate how people think he's got to be ON SOMETHING to be as vibrant/enthusiastic as he is... a lot of people are like that, just naturally energetic. I personally try to surround myself with people such as this, because these kinds of people are honest/genuine/not afraid to be who they are. Obviously he is not as upbeat all the time. Everyone winds down for a relax now and again. He's just PhilX, doing what he loves; why wouldn't you be happy about that!

    The reason the Tele has a unique tone in the Bridge position opposed to say a Strat or other guitars with single coils, is because the bridge surrounds the bridge pickup, so a big bit of metal is surrounding the pickup, which gives it that tone. And yes, the string through the body does contribute to the tone but not as much as that bridge around the pickup. There you go phil

    There were 17 edits in Hotel Califonia, the solo was constructed by producers in the studio from the many takes that Joe Walsh had recorded. They actually handed him a cassette telling him, "here's your solo for live gigs now go and learn it". A friend of mine attended an audio engineer's course, the teacher had worked as an engineer during the recording of Hotel California, he was there so he knew what had occurred.

    • @unchien2069
      @unchien2069 7 лет назад

      Felix Burke I heard Don Felder (the other guitarist on that solo) say that he had recorded the whole solo and harmony part in a demo tape. he and Walsh recorded a different solo than the one on the demo tape for the record, but don Henley asked him to record the same solo as the one on the demo because he liked it better

    • @lapelcelery42
      @lapelcelery42 6 лет назад

      Yes, I've heard Felder tell that story too, Liam. Although I'm not sure how well that gels with the fact that Joe Walsh's parts sound like pure Joe Walsh, not pure Felder. Perhaps it was only the harmony part they kept from the demo?

    It makes no difference to me that you call him a hack. For every riff or song he covered, there's ten other brilliant songs that he worked out himself. You can call him a thief or a hack all you want, but that doesn't change the fact that he's inspired many thousands of guitarists to pick up and play, and that him and the rest of Zeppelin have had a lasting impact on the music world.

    hey Phil! some songs i like to play are Eddie Cochrane songs like something else, c'mon everybody, twenty flight rock, summertime blues and so on... those songs are strait up Rock & Roll in its pure (rockabilly circa 1957) form. they aren't so technical yet you can add some of your own touch to them. Covered by a wide range of rock bands such as Led Zeppelin, Stray Cats, the Who, bruce Springsteen, the Black Keys, Rush, Joan Jet, The Beach boys, Sex Pistols... and so on. 50/50 time with my pals playing drums and bass with me as a band or im alone in a small bar... . I think im gonna record them and upload them to youtube. But I was also suggesting those songs to you for your fretedamericana videos and what not. Cheers from the true north strong and free! :)

I'm just glad your belt buckle is off to the side so not to scratch the guitar (It is about the guitar! whoo--btw, I do like the belt buckle--I know, fashion comment but a good one). What do you get when you cross Riki Rachtman with Jerry Lee Lewis? Phil X! OWWWW! YAY-UH! Anyway, I'm not sure exactly what model of 'Telly Jimmy Page played on the recorded version of "Communication Breakdown," but that psychedelic-looking one he was known to play live back then was a '58 given to him as a gift from Jeff Beck when Jimmy got Jeff the gig with The Yardbirds. For the record (heh-heh, "record," pun intended), Jimmy played, mainly, two instruments on "Led Zeppelin." He alternated between a 'Telly for an electric. and a Gibson J-200 (the same guitar you hear John Lennon playing on "Norwegian Wood") for an acoustic. The only exception to this can be heard during "You Shook Me," where Jimmy plugged in a '58 Gibson Flying Vee that, in his words, "nearly split open my amp."
