    Really appreciate the breakdown of the video structure you provided at the beginning! Since becoming visually impaired, my ability to and stamina for learning information is not nearly what it used to be. So, having some kind of structure laid out at the beginning like this makes it easier for me to not just get overwhelmed and give up.

    This software looks amazing. The price isn’t horrible for what it does and being that not a huge array of people are going to be buying this. The only thing that I really hate about low vision, software, and products is to solve the price makes them inaccessible. $1000 to a lot of people is a huge amount for them to bring out of their budget if they are disabled. But it looks amazing.

    I used to have supernova magnifier on my work laptop when it was windows 7. When work swapped my laptop for a windows 10 machine I had supernova installed again and it just didn’t play nicely. Very laggy and unusable. Spoke to dolphin support and the laptop spec seemed fine but it just would not work well so I have used the windows magnifier instead. Recently changed laptop to a machine with more RAM and newer CPU so decided to get supernova installed again. Worked a bit better this time but still problems, outlook and chrome crashing several times in just a couple of hours use. So I gave up again. We have a lot of extra security software on our work machines and I guess it’s just not compatible with supernova but it is disappointing to have to give up on it as whilst windows magnifier is fine, it’s not as featured as supernova.
    Thanks for the review. Just sub’d to your channel. Been living with Stargardt’s for the last 18 years. Luckily my vision isn’t too bad overall but still challenges me everyday

    3:50 Can I customize these shortcuts to different key bindings?
    4:50 Is there a quick overview mode, where I can toggle full screen magnification but zoom out temporarily to get a quick overview by holding down a key?

    Hi Sam, after two or so years now living the visually impaired life, I'm finally realising how much it has affected my ability to learn. Pre V I P, I was always happy to bare bones my tech as much as possible, and Google the crap out of issues I needed to resolve. Now I find I need to focus so hard mentally to do things that used to be straightforward, and it's really hard to learn unintuitive things like a lot of software. So I'm excited Dolphin has come out with this sc reen reader that sounds maybe easier to learn than JAWS for me, plus Dolphin is the company that makes the Reader program my country uses to access the public library offerings for the print disabled.

      Hello. You should try a screen reader called NVDA. It is free and open source. It is much better then supernova and at least as good as jaws if not better. It uses a lot of the same hotkeys as jaws, so it should not be so hard to lern if you have used jaws.

    • @macadamiaowl9702

      I was tester of both at almost the same time for Win10. Speed is the same now, Supernova is more stable, less resource heavy, less buggy it starts longer has much more features but i can6find SAPI 5 TTS engine support it seems to work only with Supernova voices can't find way to use my old UVONA or Microsoft voices. Mouse pointers are hideous ugly and not customizable from 1995 worst I've seen. Colour Schemes customization is horrible too accidentally i made it such way i couldn't see a thing very hard to achieve effect i want. Even now on newest version i found areas that were inaccessible. Very poor translations many errors sentences making no sense often.
      Zoomtext is compatible with all voices, has no Braille which only Fusion version has but is restricted to few limited countries, starts much faster, has much more intuitive UI menus much easier and pleasant to use but is less stable, has but more compatibility problems, Gigs up more resources. Very customizable mouse pointers, good options for color custom schemes, everything is so much easier to configure.
      Cameras mode is much more powerful on Supernova.

    This is cool software. It seems like the Microsoft magnifier is not as good as this one is? It would be cool if while you are using it as a CCTV it would tell you that if a document was straight and/or it would straighten it up for you when you take that snapshot it would be straight and then you can crop it? In the description, I can't find a direct link to the camera or keyboard? How much are these items each?

Why on God's green earth would anybody think it is a good idea to pay hundreds of dollars: or tens of hundreds of dollars to purchase a magnifier/screen reader when you pc already has these features. I did not see anything here to justify the price and I did not see anything here that I can not already do on my pc or my wife's laptop just by making use of the accessability settings. There is no single definition of blind. Legally blind people have 20/200 or worse vision in their better eye, so they can still see some, but need help. I am legally blind but am able to type this on my phone by using vision accessibility features on it.
      Plus, there are differences in the ways blindness manifests. I have Proliferate Diabetic Retinopathy and Sam has Stargardt disease and blindness affects us very differently. I have very little peripheral vision and Sam basically has only peripheral vision.
      You guys really need to educate yourselves some more before posting such an insensitive comment. Especially on a channel dedicated to helping blind people.

    • @theblindlife
      @theblindlife  3 года назад +1

      As many others have said already, I do my best to feature information and products for all levels of vision loss. Yes, probably the majority of my videos are for low vision instead of total blindness, because that’s what I have and that’s what I know. But, once again, as others have pointed out, I’ve done tons of videos on screen readers, braille devices, orientation and mobility, living the cane life, guide dogs, etc. I wouldn’t be a good VIP if I discriminated against certain vision levels.
