You always do a good job with videos. the way you blend the music and transitions. Just getting better and better my guy!! Glad to know you from the start
Finally! Dude do you know how many expos I go to and no swords!!! Thank you Edmonton, I’ll see you next year! Seriously though, this was a great vid! Hope you’re well my friend, I need to come up and visit! ❤️🎮
went for games but might come back for a big foot finger puppet & a sword 😂 a lot of those expos are just turning into selling the same stuff over & over. Great video bro it flowed perfect
You're so right! I live in Edmomton, and this is the first year I didn't go. It's been bad the last few years and just seems to be getting worse. The Calgary one seems to be slightly better than Edmomton, but it's not worth the trip down anymore. Thanks for showing me that I made the right decision in avoiding it!
Yeah I was there last year and it wasn’t as bad as this year. It just keeps going down hill which makes me sad. The Calgary one is a bit better I agree, but the vendor tables there are like $1200 a table for next year! That’s going to push out all the good small vendors and it will spiral I think. Glad this video was helpful for you!
I had a blast. But as a video game and classic console creator, I go there for the games too. Bought a couple games. But you’re right. It’s fun, but is missing something.
I’m really glad to hear you had a good time and were able to pick up some games! Hopefully they can make a slight course correction and bring back that ‘something’ that it has been missing the last couple of years. It’s still fun to check out, just depends on what you’re hunting for too. Thanks for watching!
I wonder if that was the same Shatterhand I picked up from GameCity over Thanksgiving weekend 🤔 Usually Gamecity is overpriced but Shatterhand right about at price charting prices was too good to pass up! Great vid! Would love to see Edmonton get an actual Video Game/Toy convention!
That could have been the one. That’s awesome you got it from there at Price Charting value! That’s an awesome score! Me too, something bigger that was for the Retro crowd would be great to have here.
That’s a bummer! we felt the same way at our first record show here in Raleigh, North Carolina. like it was the most disappointing thing that had to do with records that we’ve ever been to
That sucks! You would think it would be hard for a record show to not be about record but I guess it depends if they vet the vendors or it would be the same as this! Hopefully less swords there tho 😂🤣😂🤣
I went to the Calgary Expo 10 years ago, same thing. Not worth it. VGT was there, with terrible prices (the old owners), a couple small selections at booths, and the rest were guys from Edmonton that set up. With the cost to get in to the Edmonton one, and very little games, very easy pass. The next Nerd Sale in Mill Woods mall is November 30th, maybe you'll have better luck there! Hopefully we can grow the event with more gaming vendors as time goes on. I think we're around 60 now.
Yeah it’s not worth it if you’re looking for games. That’s awesome you’re up to 60 vendors now! I’ll absolutely try to be there if the weather lets it happen!
great video! i was gonna say itseems like an indie convention, like one of those comic cons that arent that big, we have some of those in my area in south carolina!
Hey Bryce! So Fan Expo itself is a huge company that owns conventions all over North America. Here they use to be full of everything fan related. With lots of games, toys, comics and everything. They bought up a bunch of conventions all over the place and turned them all into Fan Expo events. Megacon Orlando is one of the ones they own. Sadly they have turned into what this is now. Which kind of sucks for everyone. This one use to be a cool event, but it’s not that great now.
We had a similar experience at dragon con certain things seemed to completely take over. Which is ok but the lack of mixing at this cons and the prices are getting a bit ridiculous. I feel like last time dragon con was a lot better vending wise. this is something that the conventions in the community need to try and make sure to stay away from. Specially with not maybe charging the vendors so much that they then need add that to the price. Man couldn’t agree more with everything you’ve said on this video
That’s sucks that Dragons Con was like that for you! I totally think there are some of the younger cons that are still doing it right, it’s sad that some of the larger ones have changed so much. Thanks for watching my friends!
A total of nine sword booths???? Man.....that's overkill imo. I'm curious as to how many people actually bought a sword at the expo. Although it wasn't a great experience, I'm glad to see that you found Mario Galaxy for your nephew.
Right! I guess at least the people that went looking to defend their castle and buy a sword could do some good price comparisons 😂🤣😂🤣 It’s funny, Porchman was kind enough to help my nephew out and hook him up with a Wii, he even sent him some extras in the box. So he ended up with 2 copies of Mario Galaxy. 😂 He’s going to trade one copy to add to his collection, so that’s great anyways.
Yeah I agree, it's a bummer that some are turning into just anything goes. This one makes me glad I have the ability to come down there for some of the really fun ones with you folks!
One of the better expos if not best for video games in Edmonton would be the Edmonton Nerd sale. That happens a few times a year. The next one will be November 30th / 10-5 at mill Woods Town Centre!
Ya I didn't renew my booth for next year. Although I had good feedback the last two years, with trying something different, its just to much work making the stuff just to break even.
I did the survey and made sure that if they read it, they will know what they did 😂🤣 Guess I’ll just have to make up for this one by coming to RetroWorld next year instead 🤔
That’s how I felt too. It just feels like they need to do a better job at a lot of things. I hope they can bring back the soul of the expo, but I’m not sure that they will. Thanks for watching!
Edmonton London, or Edmonton Canada? Also, who is regulating the sale of all these swords, which are weapons being added to the streets of an already hot, high crime era of society?
I feel like the swords would be better suited if it was Edmonton London, which I assume isn’t London Ontario. 😂🤣 That’s a good question, i don’t think they are battle tested, so I’m not sure if they need to monitor the output of prop swords into the criminal underbelly… but hey, Ya never know 🤣
It was really quiet in the morning when we got there. Even the line to get in was non existent. It felt like it was getting busy in the afternoon, but still nothing crazy like I have seen at other events.
@@RetrocartCollector I believe it. I think I'm just more used to seeing videos of the more gaming type of expos. They seem pretty packed. Still an enjoyable video thank you.
These big main stream conventions (like Collect-A-Con) are terrible for video games typically. A lot of times if you do find some they are more expensive than they would be at a gaming convention.
Absolutely they are. I do feel bad for the vendors because at $800+ per table at this event ($1200+ per table at its sister show in Calgary). They probably feel that they have to try and make it up somewhere and bring prices up. The smaller shows around here seem to be a better value as a whole.
Dang by the looks of it seems very lackluster like so many booths with similar items like all the sword booths 😅 but yeah does seem like a etsy shop con
It was a disappointment for us. I have been enjoying the smaller shows here lately where the vendors that use to go to Fan Expo are at now. But this just means I'll have to come down to the states for more cons instead LOL
If your a fan of swords, do I know a convention for sword shopping 🤣😂 I’m fine with a sword booth, I’m cool with 2 sword booths… even at sword booth 4 I was like, “ok I can get behind this”… it was sword booths 6 and beyond I was left scratching my head 🤔🤣
It sucks that it ended up being a big disappointment for you. Not enough video game or toy booths but I did like some of the art there. Way too many swords though
Some of the art is amazing, artist alley represents some truly amazing folks. Totally too many swords, it was a running gag by the end, I guess if someone was looking for that it would be good.
The cons are so expensive just to get in WE quit going and use the admission fee toward our collection. Metal doesn't equal real sword j/s those are cheap chunk that will fold if used in "battle".
That’s probably a good idea. Some of the smaller and younger cons can be really great and a lot of fun but the ones owned by these big con groups seem to not be as worth it anymore. Yeah I probably should have been saying prop metal swords, hopefully no one takes me too seriously and tried to take any of those into “battle”! I mean, I would watch that for the laughs, but it wouldn’t be good for anyone 🤣😂🤣
@@randallgoeswhere oh yeah! There was a full booth here selling beef jerky, and that’s just the one that stood out to me. 😂🤣 I have been to really good cons that have a couple of booths that sell cookies and snack foods, but those they normally at least try to theme the cookies to games or comics 😂🤣
