Retrocart Collector
Канада
Добавлен 14 апр 2023
Come along as I travel to Retro Game Stores, Game Conventions, and meet new and amazing people all while trying to collect all of these awesome games! I'll keep you updated on my collection as I build it and give you my memories of renting and owning these games in my childhood.
Why collect Nintendo games you ask? Well that's easy, everything from my childhood, Toys, Videogames, Everything. I lost when my childhood home was consumed to a fire. I've been collecting for years to regain childhood items and memories. Each time I've found items from my childhood, I've gone for a complete set of those toys, so why should this be any different?
From Battle Beasts to Galoob Army Gear (You better look that one up) my collection has grown, now I've set my sights on Retro Video Games.

I Don't Think I'll Go Back - Edmonton Expo 2024
As someone that has gone to these events since they were small one room shows. Fan Expo has turned into something that I cant really say what I would want a Convention to be. You will never guess how many booths in this convention had Metal Swords you could buy. Well there was 3 booths with video games and we counted how many sword vendors there are in this video. Sadly I don't think I'll be back to Edmonton Fan Expo any time soon.

500 SUBS SPECIAL! What Games Did You Rent All The Time?!
These big main stream conventions (like Collect-A-Con) are terrible for video games typically. A lot of times if you do find some they are more expensive than they would be at a gaming convention.
Absolutely they are. I do feel bad for the vendors because at $800+ per table at this event ($1200+ per table at its sister show in Calgary). They probably feel that they have to try and make it up somewhere and bring prices up. The smaller shows around here seem to be a better value as a whole.
Link from BOTW would be so excited to see so many Sword booths
After booth 7 I think even BOTW Link would think it’s a little too much 😂🤣😂
They all can’t be bangers I guess. Maybe with the post con survey they can improve for the future
I did the survey and made sure that if they read it, they will know what they did 😂🤣 Guess I’ll just have to make up for this one by coming to RetroWorld next year instead 🤔
Yeah I found it to be very repetitive for some vendors
Absolutely, I wish they would do a better job of screening the vendors to avoid so many that are just the same thing repeated.
This year's Edmonton Expo sadly just felt off. Feels like its lost its identity and so many of the vendors have crazy prices or are hawking crap.
That’s how I felt too. It just feels like they need to do a better job at a lot of things. I hope they can bring back the soul of the expo, but I’m not sure that they will. Thanks for watching!
Come to the real, largest and retro gaming expo in America. The Midwest Gaming Expo…it’s the real deal.
Midwest is 100% on my list! It looks like an awesome event, hopefully I can fit it in next year but if not I’ll be there the following one.
went for games but might come back for a big foot finger puppet & a sword 😂 a lot of those expos are just turning into selling the same stuff over & over. Great video bro it flowed perfect
Right! Just a sword and a hand full of tentacle fingers 😂🤣😂 thanks brother I appreciate that you think so!
Not enough swords. Next year we'll have more swords! 😂
RetroSwordCollector.
Name change incoming! 😂🤣😂
That Expo needed more Sword booths, definitely disappointed with Sword Con...
😂🤣😂🤣😂⚔️🗡️⚔️
I had a blast. But as a video game and classic console creator, I go there for the games too. Bought a couple games. But you’re right. It’s fun, but is missing something.
I’m really glad to hear you had a good time and were able to pick up some games! Hopefully they can make a slight course correction and bring back that ‘something’ that it has been missing the last couple of years. It’s still fun to check out, just depends on what you’re hunting for too. Thanks for watching!
Dude, that really sucks... all my flea markets are full of Swords and knives, too
Every year there are more and more here. It kinda feel like that’s what this is becoming 😂 One big flea market convention.
The cons are so expensive just to get in WE quit going and use the admission fee toward our collection. Metal doesn't equal real sword j/s those are cheap chunk that will fold if used in "battle".
That’s probably a good idea. Some of the smaller and younger cons can be really great and a lot of fun but the ones owned by these big con groups seem to not be as worth it anymore. Yeah I probably should have been saying prop metal swords, hopefully no one takes me too seriously and tried to take any of those into “battle”! I mean, I would watch that for the laughs, but it wouldn’t be good for anyone 🤣😂🤣
@@RetrocartCollector freakin RUclips deleted my original reply but sword fails videos are a thing....
😂 RUclips search for sword fails engaged!
@@RetrocartCollector lols 😂
Unfortunately some conventions will just sell to whoever. There really needs to be a process to make sure there is a healthy mix.
Yeah I agree, it's a bummer that some are turning into just anything goes. This one makes me glad I have the ability to come down there for some of the really fun ones with you folks!
You're so right! I live in Edmomton, and this is the first year I didn't go. It's been bad the last few years and just seems to be getting worse. The Calgary one seems to be slightly better than Edmomton, but it's not worth the trip down anymore. Thanks for showing me that I made the right decision in avoiding it!
Yeah I was there last year and it wasn’t as bad as this year. It just keeps going down hill which makes me sad. The Calgary one is a bit better I agree, but the vendor tables there are like $1200 a table for next year! That’s going to push out all the good small vendors and it will spiral I think. Glad this video was helpful for you!
You always do a good job with videos. the way you blend the music and transitions. Just getting better and better my guy!! Glad to know you from the start
Thanks so much for watching my friend! Glad you're enjoying the videos! I love yours too and wish I was as creative as you!!
Edmonton London, or Edmonton Canada? Also, who is regulating the sale of all these swords, which are weapons being added to the streets of an already hot, high crime era of society?
I feel like the swords would be better suited if it was Edmonton London, which I assume isn’t London Ontario. 😂🤣 That’s a good question, i don’t think they are battle tested, so I’m not sure if they need to monitor the output of prop swords into the criminal underbelly… but hey, Ya never know 🤣
Appreciate the honesty
Riiiikkkkkeeeeeyyyyyyyy!
Thanks for watching brother!
One of the better expos if not best for video games in Edmonton would be the Edmonton Nerd sale. That happens a few times a year. The next one will be November 30th / 10-5 at mill Woods Town Centre!
That’s an awesome event for sure! I’ve been to the last couple and am planning to be there in November as long as the weather will let me!
I don't live close to Edmonton and Calgary but the YYC game collectors group is amazing.
@@jpixels4042 there are some really awesome folks in the game collecting community for sure!
We had a similar experience at dragon con certain things seemed to completely take over. Which is ok but the lack of mixing at this cons and the prices are getting a bit ridiculous. I feel like last time dragon con was a lot better vending wise. this is something that the conventions in the community need to try and make sure to stay away from. Specially with not maybe charging the vendors so much that they then need add that to the price. Man couldn’t agree more with everything you’ve said on this video
That’s sucks that Dragons Con was like that for you! I totally think there are some of the younger cons that are still doing it right, it’s sad that some of the larger ones have changed so much. Thanks for watching my friends!
I went to the Calgary Expo 10 years ago, same thing. Not worth it. VGT was there, with terrible prices (the old owners), a couple small selections at booths, and the rest were guys from Edmonton that set up. With the cost to get in to the Edmonton one, and very little games, very easy pass. The next Nerd Sale in Mill Woods mall is November 30th, maybe you'll have better luck there! Hopefully we can grow the event with more gaming vendors as time goes on. I think we're around 60 now.
Yeah it’s not worth it if you’re looking for games. That’s awesome you’re up to 60 vendors now! I’ll absolutely try to be there if the weather lets it happen!
Ya I didn't renew my booth for next year. Although I had good feedback the last two years, with trying something different, its just to much work making the stuff just to break even.
That’s too bad you were only breaking even there! I hope there’s a better option for you in the future!
It sucks that it ended up being a big disappointment for you. Not enough video game or toy booths but I did like some of the art there. Way too many swords though
Some of the art is amazing, artist alley represents some truly amazing folks. Totally too many swords, it was a running gag by the end, I guess if someone was looking for that it would be good.
That’s a bummer! we felt the same way at our first record show here in Raleigh, North Carolina. like it was the most disappointing thing that had to do with records that we’ve ever been to
That sucks! You would think it would be hard for a record show to not be about record but I guess it depends if they vet the vendors or it would be the same as this! Hopefully less swords there tho 😂🤣😂🤣
@@RetrocartCollector weirdly….a ton of swords 😂
"I'll take Swords for 400, Alex."
“The Daily Double! This small sword was wielded by both Bilbo and Frodo.”
@@RetrocartCollector What is... the lead singer of The Police!
Always enjoy your video, my friend
Thanks so much for watching!
I wonder if that was the same Shatterhand I picked up from GameCity over Thanksgiving weekend 🤔 Usually Gamecity is overpriced but Shatterhand right about at price charting prices was too good to pass up! Great vid! Would love to see Edmonton get an actual Video Game/Toy convention!
That could have been the one. That’s awesome you got it from there at Price Charting value! That’s an awesome score! Me too, something bigger that was for the Retro crowd would be great to have here.
A total of nine sword booths???? Man.....that's overkill imo. I'm curious as to how many people actually bought a sword at the expo. Although it wasn't a great experience, I'm glad to see that you found Mario Galaxy for your nephew.
Right! I guess at least the people that went looking to defend their castle and buy a sword could do some good price comparisons 😂🤣😂🤣 It’s funny, Porchman was kind enough to help my nephew out and hook him up with a Wii, he even sent him some extras in the box. So he ended up with 2 copies of Mario Galaxy. 😂 He’s going to trade one copy to add to his collection, so that’s great anyways.
great video! i was gonna say itseems like an indie convention, like one of those comic cons that arent that big, we have some of those in my area in south carolina!
and these conventions usually arent just specificly gaming or comics, its everything with just vendors, itsjust curious to me!
Hey Bryce! So Fan Expo itself is a huge company that owns conventions all over North America. Here they use to be full of everything fan related. With lots of games, toys, comics and everything. They bought up a bunch of conventions all over the place and turned them all into Fan Expo events. Megacon Orlando is one of the ones they own. Sadly they have turned into what this is now. Which kind of sucks for everyone. This one use to be a cool event, but it’s not that great now.
Sword Con ⚔️
@@Woodmanclassics super sword con!
It looks a lot less crowded than a game convention or any other type. Even a sports convention.
It was really quiet in the morning when we got there. Even the line to get in was non existent. It felt like it was getting busy in the afternoon, but still nothing crazy like I have seen at other events.
@@RetrocartCollector I believe it. I think I'm just more used to seeing videos of the more gaming type of expos. They seem pretty packed. Still an enjoyable video thank you.
Hello I’m looking for a metal sword can you help me please? Haha crazy man 😝. Too bad not many video games though 🙃.
It you need a metal sword, you cant go down an row without finding one here. Come on up brother! LOL
Dang by the looks of it seems very lackluster like so many booths with similar items like all the sword booths 😅 but yeah does seem like a etsy shop con
It was a disappointment for us. I have been enjoying the smaller shows here lately where the vendors that use to go to Fan Expo are at now. But this just means I'll have to come down to the states for more cons instead LOL
Screech! Just save up for Sege!!
SETH! Sege is on my list for next year my friend!
That's a shame they've lost their way. Maybe next year it'll be called the Swords Expo. 😆
I feel like 1 or 2 more sword booths and it would be mandatory to call it Swords Expo! LOL
3 gaming tables crazy man! I will be going to Toronto game expo next month. I hope it is good
I hope that's a good expo to check out! Hopefully if its a game expo then there are lots of great items.
Heck yeah Golden Eye Keith! Literally the game I played the most on N64 🙌🔥😃
I’m stoked I finally have it in my collection! I think it’s probably the one I played the most on the N64 as well!
Really happy you made this series of videos and took us along for the ride. I don't know that I'll ever get it to California. So hard when we're on the East Coast but I got to live vicariously through you and that was amazing.
I’m really glad you enjoyed them. Thats a long trip and would be rough to make it out there from the east coast for sure! I’m glad I could take you along with me through the vids and show you my little adventure down there!
I remember watching MTV remote control lol, never played the game though. Glad you got that Goldeneye! Fun vid my friend, I’m still playing catch up on everyone’s stuff 😬

@@RetrocartCollector agreed!!! ❤️🎮
Superb video, Retrocart Collector. Looking forward to seeing your next upload. I smashed the thumbs up button on your content. Keep up the fantastic work! Have you considered how the nostalgia factor influences the value of retro games like GoldenEye in today's market?
Thank you and thanks for watching! I totally think that nostalgia has an effect on value, you can see it in the way prices on certain systems go up when they kind of hit that nostalgic marker for younger folks as they get older. Golden Eye for sure is one of those games that people cherish from their childhood and will change that value I think.
One more for the NES set! Remote Control is still kinda fun to play but like most old gameshow video games the trivia is from the period. Makes it even more interesting. 😂 I still need a super scope myself. Had one as a teenager but now I would want it just to hang on the wall and look at. 🤣 Dang! Nice grab at the end! Saved the box from a value standpoint! That game a long with a few others in the N64 changed gaming for me. 🍻🤙🏻
Me too, it would be awesome to have a super scope on the wall in a sweet case or something just to look at. That’s awesome, I think Goldeneye was a game changer for a lot of people, super cool it was able to change gaming for you! 🤙🎉
I love Remote Control!!! Had it as a kid and still like to play it today. Great video!
That’s awesome you still enjoy playing it! I’m super glad to have crossed that one off my list.
Great hidden gems, if you like Kings Knight, check out Dragon Spirit another $15 vertical shooter, where you are a dragon instead of a spaceship.
@@Retrobash80!!! That’s awesome. Dragon Spirit will go on the list for a future one then! I have it, I just don’t think I have dug into it, so I’m stoked to do that now. Thanks for watching brother! 🤙🤙
