At 4:02, I believe the car in that shot is either a Rolls Royce Silver Dawn or a Bentley MkVI. Both lovely cars for VERY comfortable cruising along at a gentle pace in their day. I loved them both! Take care.
These landings still look realistic, even today. Can you imagine a kid in the 1950s seeing them? Yet another reason for the show's incredible success. Thanks for the post.
Realistic? 😆. It's quite clear he's jumping from something out of shot. When he takes off it obvious he's jumping from a spring board so I don't know how you can say it looks realistic. Christopher Reeve is by far much more convincing.
Truly a wonderful man, performer, and humanitarian. George meant as much. If not more, to children, as any man that ever lived. I was one of them. Truly, God take care of his soul, an may he forever be at peace.
George Reeves had to be in great physical shape even to do those landings, especially those in which he is coming in on an angle. He gave life and humanity to an iconic character that endures to this very day. God bless you George: a great actor.
Stunt doubles did the heavy lifting. Reeves only did the easy stuff He was allergic to the padding in the costume. He was tall but not muscular. The stunt doubles were in the costume 12 hours a day. Reeves could only wear it less than 30 minutes..The costume was changed in the shows shot in color. Reeves did not have the broad shoulders and slim waist or even the spitcurl that Kirk Alyn, Christopher Reeve or Brandon Routh had. He was better as Clark Kent but he was no Superman.
Man, you got that right. The harp, the horn, the strings, the exploding comet. When they went to color and a diesel train, the series was fading. ruclips.net/video/Q2l4bz1FT8U/видео.html
The BEST Superman! Had my own Superman suit as a little boy. Used to wear it and jump off an old outhouse roof onto a couple of old mattresses trying to fly...lol.
George Reeves was a Boxer for years! It gave him certain qualities and a sense poise we admire when we watch him in The Adventures of Superman! He was a fun guy to work with and much beloved of his co-stars.
George played.the part brilliantly. He put so much into that role. He played Clark Kent as a cool component reporter and Superman with a serious kind of charm. As well having a great physical and athletic approach to the part. I've heard that the series was considered a low budget production. However, their production work seems pretty high quality to me. The acting, the story lines, the special effects and overall production value, still hold up very well. I enjoyed this program as a child, I enjoyed watching with my child and now I enjoy watching it with my grandchildren. That is a testament to how good this show really was. George, you will never be forgoten!
Despite Hollywood's millions in Tv and movie special effects for Superman, that supersonic scenery in this TV series with the most believable Superman -- GeorgeReeves -- is still the best. No ballet in the sky. No silence. No evidence of speed. And when he crashes through a wall it's fantastic. The one landing that was not featured here -- one of the more spectacular entrances wasn't even on the Superman TV series. It was when Reeves landed in front of little Ricky Ricardo during his birthday party in "I Love Lucy". What an entrance. And at that time, what a special guest appearance. I believe it was one of the highest-rated episodes at that time. I'm a baby-boomer and I remember something special -- in the '50s there were 3 motion picture icons -- Marlon Brando, Marilyn Monroe, and James Dean. But there were only 2 cultural icons that had an enormous fan base and affect on that new post-war generation: Elvis Presley & Superman. They're the ones with the lunch boxes, dolls, and all the media perks. I agree with ECO473 -- it's a shame George Reeves didn't live long enough to see how his fans truly loved him well into adulthood. But at least Noel Neill, Phyliss Coates, (who is still alive at 92 & last of the original cast), and Jack Larson did.
Christopher Reeve was an AWESOME Superman as well, in all fairness, but-George was MY Superman growing up as well, and NOBODY played him like George did. So sad, R.I.P., Mr. Reeves.

My favorite show when I was a kid. Can't tell ya how much I wanted to fly. I had a cape and everything. Hurt myself numerous times, jumping off the bed.
I never tried it, but I wanted that cape! Never got one. But later in life, I used to dream I could fly just by setting a certain mental state and flapping my arms just a little. If my mind wandered, I'd start to sink, usually over some pointed buildings... churches?
When I was a kid, I LOVED George Reeve's landings! When I "played" Superman, I would jump off the top of the dresser, complete with landing sound effects!
I used to live for Saturday cartoons and The Adventures Of Superman. And, if you ask me, they did a hell of a job on those landings, takeoffs, and flying sequences, considering the times and the budget.
Many of these clips 70 years old. When television was in its infancy n no computers or good budget props . Amazing theme song n acting by all .George was over 40 at end of show .He was spectacular as full cast to Lois was certainly a looker with a body to match

Would love to hear a symphony orchestra do The Collective Works of The Adventures of Superman! People would go wild hearing the violins and harp, followed by those trumpets.
Aside from the theme song (which some suspect may have been adapted from pre-existing stock music cues), *The Adventures of Superman* was scored entirely with stock music. A re-recording of the series' soundtrack would be a mix and match of library music by many composers.
George Reeves did the best takeoffs and landings as Superman - nobody else even comes close. Pure athleticism and dedication. And yes, there were tricks to it - but it still required a guy in great physical condition.
They showed how he did it on I love Lucy Little Ricky’s B Day Party where he used a Parallel Bar to jump through window.George Reeves was a practitioner of Judo also and knew how to do rolls and jumps.

Wow I wonder what he felt like when he came home from the studio and realize he jumped up a 6 foot stand every time from a different angle sometimes you can see him jumping with the shadow before even jobs LOL for a whole school staff
I love how George just "sticks" the landings almost all the time without another step. I realize of course if he stumbled or was off balance they'd do another take. But most of the time he nails it! That very first landing on the deck of the "ship" was a perfect example.
Some fans of the show have said the Lieutenant (played by Steve Carr) in "The Haunted Lighthouse," called out to help for "Nate," (as in, Nate Barrager the Asst. Director). Multiverse movies weren't a thing at the time. At best, Reeves would have had a supporting role as a different character or a cameo like Kirk Alyn and Noel Neill did.
I love how everyone trusts Superman without question. The idea was that people should be true to their words and deeds. Seems to be something in short supply in today's world. I'm so sick of dark, flawed "hero's."
During the Cold War there was nothing like having Superman who stood for truth, justice and the American way.
I am 67 years old and I still love this show!!!

I'm 66 and feel the same way. Great memories of getting home from primary school to watch it.

Thanks a Lot for these videos I enjoyed when I was a child
i bet if george reeves lived into the 1980s or 1990s he would've teamed up with chris reeves in the 1970s and 1980s and we could've had a multivers superman team up type of deal.
Multiverse movies weren't a thing at the time. At best, Reeves would have had a supporting role as a different character or a cameo like Kirk Alyn and Noel Neill did.
How Supe avoided literally knocking the crooks heads off with a punch is amazing
I love how everyone trusts Superman without question. The idea was that people should be true to their words and deeds. Seems to be something in short supply in today's world. I'm so sick of dark, flawed "hero's."
