Well Good Lord! Everytime you do a mass tone, I'm shocked at how boldly it comes across... 🤔 I guess the thing to remember about these particular Paul Ruben watercolors, then, is that prewetting the pans is really not required?! Unless you are looking for a very concentrated application. But honestly, I've never seen other watercolor brands come across so intense in such a consistent manner, so that is quite impressive. I will join you in your hope, and speak great favor to be with you now, and Allways, in all things and in all timespaces 🤗😊💖

Or in my case, a 🐸 in the throat decides to show up and makes me cough lol... along with my kitties jumping on the table as I swatch! I'll be completely honest about all the Paul Rubens watercolors... they are so pretty, but I get overwhelmed with how many choices there are available. 5th generation, 3rd generation. I'd much rather use one set and know that it works for me. However I love your videos and you keep me company as I paint, so I will continue watching till the end!

The reason why they have so many different gens is because each gen caters to a very specific type of audience with different packaging/formulation and they also had a pearlescent/metallics line and some student lines etc. I believe even one of the sets has no heavy metal pigments (no cadmiums, cobalts etc) , making it safe for children. Since their lines seem to be marketed towards a "gifting" aesthetic, I would just settle with the newest generations which seem to be more catered towards what modern artists are using because several of the older generations are actually discontinued and have a different quality, although you can still buy some of the leftover stock. Tubes currently only go up to 4th gen (36 colors/in black tubes) and is currently their best tube set and is what I would personally recommend, or you could just get 5th gen half pans with less colors (same/similar formula as 4th gen tubes). The only pro to the 1st gen set is if you want more colors for your half pans, as the 1st gen sets have up to 48 colors being their largest range for the half pans (comes in the standard large pink/dark blue tins) and the quality of the paints are good but aren't as well formulated as the newest one. Their 1st gen tube line also had a huge range which included a lot of convenience colors but it has long since been discontinued, even though some cn art stores are still selling leftover open stock

Paul Rubens is so confusing and their colors are kind of all over the place… From set to set and pallet to pallet, I do enjoy a lot of their colors, but since I am a portrait artist, I really rely heavily on the earth tones and their earth tones are just weird. In their Other pallets, they have been very weak, which I don’t mind so much since skin tones are often light washes anyway, but I think that’s why they added the black to their browns. I really wish they would just stabilize and pick a formula and stick with it and also, sell their tube paints open stock. I have a set from them that I just adore, but you can’t get it anymore because they’ve moved on to other sets and formulas. They are also the makers of MEILANG and Light wish, which I guess are a lesser grade, but in all actuality, I think they are all the same grade. Nice paints, but lacking the professional element of open stock and single reliable formulas.
Really enjoy the way you do your swatching !😉
