- One of a series of SMBZ battles originally re-uploaded with RUclips's 2D to 3D conversion feature activated (the feature has since been removed). Original video from Moonshadows324, and the original animation is from Alvin Earthworm, all credit goes to them.

@Nipponisms That is most likely due to the times Changing. Flash started going away around that time in favor of HTML5 and thus the Art of Flash is gone now. And with that Newgrounds also became irrelevant.
He is still around though, he is now Slowly revamping the series and the 1st ep of the Revamped series is out on RUclips.

This fight has lived rent free in my head since middle school. This is literally the best example of creators letting their imagination run wild.
IMO, this is pretty much the best fight in the series. I mean, who doesn't like a battle with more than two teams?

If SMBZ was an anime and this battle scene would be somehow nominated as one of the best fight scenes, this scene would win the award for sure.
At 22, this scene brings back those feelings I had as a kid watching through the original series before it got cancelled

Alvin really 'got' what made sprite animation good. bc the fact is you can't really make sprite fight scenes like regular animation, the characters can't move smoothly in detail, you really have to get creative with the flow of the fight itself, the pacing and the back-and-forth. Alvin got it *perfectly.* everything is fast paced and characters fly in and out of frame and use their momentum to flow into attacks, but it never feels too fast to follow; you know if Mario got knocked off screen to the left he'll come back in from the left or the top for a counterattack. it all works *SO WELL*
its insane how well choreographed it is, everyone has their own set of moves and styles as well as different levels of teamwork, it flows really smoothly and a fight never hangs for too long

This is my favorite fight in SMBZ because of the pure number of fighters with different skills and style and how many of them work together, and it all makes sense and there so much detail put into it. Oh and the music awesome too I wish I knew what it was from.

If you had told me 15 years ago that my favorite RUclips series was a Flash Animation with Mario and Sonic characters and a DBZ plot, I'd call you crazy, but SMBZ is so beautifully animated. Huge props to Mark Haynes for continuing the reboot even after all that legal crap from Nintendo.

No, *this* part of the fight was like a 3-way gang war happening in a mostly quiet neighborhood, the civilians forced to watch the chaos until everything eventually blew over. When Mecha Sonic came in later... it was a public execution.

It's a 3 way battle for an object all 3 sides know the importance of, each side nearly matched in numbers (5v5v4) but all with diffrent skillsets used well, goes by "show, don't tell" in terms of abilities and power, fast paced battle that isn't "this guy loses in 5 or less hits", a battle that *doesn't* devolve into mindless punching, screaming, slashing, and abrupt increases of power via pallette swaps, "my friends are my power" (when said friends aren't nearby or lending power AT ALL), or "suddenly unlocked potential".
All 3 sides know they're against eachother but it doesn't stop small alliances from forming between 2 or more people for 5 to 10 seconds to team up against the other guy before they're back at eachother's throats again, sometimes several times in succession, and you can see their attacks flow into eachother so well, you can see the power going into each attack without using too many special effects. Two of those groups has a powerup and knows WHEN AND HOW to use it, instead of whipping it out first, hoping it destroys everything, and being suprised when it inevitably backfires. They know that if they win they can get MORE of this power and visibly put in the effort to try instead of being nonchalaunt about it. There's no taunting eachother, no gimmicks unless needed, everyone is all business and you know each attack is every bit as lethal as it looks, so if it's not blocked or countered you are out of the fight PERMANENTLY (not crippled, not "just barely alive to pull a second wind from nowhere", straight up DEAD). No punches pulled whatsoever.
That, I think, is what truly makes this fight shine above ANY anime fight.

I love how the Axem Rangers are modeled after Zero from Megaman Zero, and Roll and Gutsman from the Battle Network series
I never knew that. I just thought their redesigns were completely original, if the Axem Rangers weren't chibified.

You know rewatching this about 15 years later I was almost sure I remembered this fight so we'll only because of nostalgia. Nope. This fight is just fucking raw and has some amazing fight scene cinematography.

When you realize that the only one who actually ended up standing a chance against Super Mecha Sonic (once he came along) out of all of these was *_MARIO._*
No joke, Mario and Super Mecha were DEAD EVEN whereas everyone else (aside from Luigi for obvious reasons) got manhandled.

It wasn't truly them Being even, When Mario Hit Mecha Sonic, He was either hit in his Blind side and didn't see it coming, or he flinched because Mario Knocked Luigi's Shell into Mecha, it was strategy, not power
This battle was fuckin' EPIC. And it still is!
