You know it's interesting, each of the people on Team Mario/Sonic each have different combat styles or niches.
Mario is capable of fighting alone and exploiting openings, though he's not reluctant to combo with others.
Luigi primarily does combos with others to the point where he'll even let others shoot him at the enemy.
Sonic is good at avoiding and moving around enemy attacks so he gets hit the least.
Yoshi is also primarily combo oriented and is also sort of the supporter in cases when some gets knocked down and will run them around.
And Shadow is the loner with enough power and technique to almost never have do combos, which is useful since whenever he does he'll usually hit whoever he's combo-ing with and be fully aware he did and not care.
And this is pretty consistent throughout the series. Alvin Earthworm/Mark Haynes really did make this internet show great and I'm glad he's back making a reboot, albeit I think he's dealing with some stuff the the 2nd episode hasn't come out yet. But I'd rather it take a year for him to complete it after he feels better than to rush when he's depressed.👍🏿

This show was once to me what game of thrones was to everyone else. Me and my buddies used to lose our minds when a new episode was released. I remember watching this episode at least 6 times on the day it came out when I was a kid. It still blows my mind to this day
I'm really glad to see how popular SMBZ really is among so many people. When I was a kid, I had no concept of whether something was popular or not, I just watched SMBZ because it was amazing content. It's awesome to see that there were other people who were also watching it at the same time as me, and were mindblown by how entertaining it was. Nice to meet a fellow fan :)

Game of Thrones ain't got shit on this. Sonic's story in this is far darker than any ASOIAF character considering everyone he knew and loved save for Shadow is dead before the show even started.
One thing I will never get over is how the moment Mecha Sonic shows up, the power dynamic in the fight COMPLETELY changes, before Mecha shows up, it's almost a free-for-all with our heroes having the slight upper hand until the breaker beam is pulled out, not only does he make short work of the koopa bros like they're an afterthought, dashing through them and putting them out of commison in an instant, Mecha Sonic then tanks an emerald powered breaker beam head on and overpowers it, THEN goes on to mop the floor with the Axem Rangers X slaughtering them and straight up tanking Axem Red's secret weapon like it was nothing.
To add on to this.
What really sells are two things. The length of the fight and the feel of them both.
Every villain from the Mario side of things might have power, but they're shown in a sort of fun, Saturday Morning villain of the week kind of way. The music was energetic and most fights are evenly matched.
Mecha Sonic meanwhile, completely shatters any kind of fun to be had. He feels like SA-X in Metroid Fusion (which is funny considering the theme that builds him up is from Metroid Prime 3).
He's on a mission, and unlike every other Mario character, he's not here to make a show. He wants to upend this entire kingdom like the world he did before to get what he wants.
All of that made immediately apparent when he flies into the island as you've mentioned, negating BOTH of the super attacks from the opposing teams, before completely killing one of them in a minute.
Mecha Sonic in this series is one of the best villains in my opinion.
back when i was about 7 when i saw mecha sonic appear in any scene i was terrified. especially when he was murdering the axem rangers. i was wondering if this dufus was incincible. alvin did a really good job on showing how strong mecha sonic was

the eerie music, the way it fades out as the blast makes contact, and how all the sounds of the impact are drowned out ten-fold by the explosion. it's still horrifying all these years later, and i shudder to think of how mark will do this a second time around.
What is really sad Is that the rest of the koopa Bros were still conscious and they died off screen.
It also gives that really eerie end of the world situation since that was straight up a mock-up of the supernova

Y'know. I think the reason why this episode truly made Mecha Sonic the most official badass "fan-based" character. What this guy has turned Mecha Sonic into intimidated the Ultimate Life Form, making his heartbeat stagger for just a moment.
I really hope that Alvin keeps the tension that Shadow and Mecha have. Or rather... Just Shadow. (Because Mecha literally seems like a sociopath in the most glorious fan-boy form.)

This episode of SMBZ is one of 2 times I consider fan stuff objectively better than official media. The only other is Monty Oum. I've rarely if ever encountered a fight scene as well put together as this. How a single guy is able to keep it together with something this intense is just amazing. I can't even skip throught the vid properly with just how DENSE the fighting is. Even this guys dialogue is improving at the time, implementing foreshadowing and the like.
One thing I really liked is Shadow only really putting effort into fighting when he's facing Metal Sonic or when someone he considers important is in danger. Like he's unusually more violent when Yoshi and Luigi are in danger specifically. Just another hint Alvin is freakin' amazing. Him and Monty ARE godlike in their medium.
I consider Fan Stuff to be better than Official Media Nowadays they do stuff that they can't and are like this is a example and another series called annoying villagers is better than any Minecraft series and heck any Official media made these days like the Marvel movies and games.

YES! Somebody finally uses the Blue Shell power-up from the original New Super Mario Bros. game for the DS! That is my personal favorite Mario power-up, so to see it finally being used in a fan-animation is wonderful for me.

***** Well, let's be honest, Shadow (and maybe Mario) is probably the only one who would be able to beat Normal Mecha Sonic.
***** Sonic stronger than Mario? Nooo way, and don't bring up Death battle. And seriously, just compare the Mecha Sonic _here_, to the Mecha Sonic in Sonic 3. See the difference? Mecha Sonic is very capable of killing Sonic in his normal form. Have you watched ep. 7 yet? Shadow is easily the strongest on their team, and is more than willing to beat Mecha Sonic in his normal form. Hell, I'd say he'd be able to defeat Mecha Sonic in his semi-super from if he took off his inhibitor rings and let out a Chaos Blast without Mecha Knowing. That would scratch him for sure.
***** Let's just steer away from the Sonic VS Mario thing and stay on topic. Yoshi cannot beat Mecha Sonic without help. Ep.3 proves this (Or, Ep.2, one of them). Sonic may beat Mecha Sonic if he has enough motivation to do so, but the chances are still slim. Shadow and Mario are the strongest members on their team, Shadow with his Chaos Powers and super speed, and Mario with his super strength/jumping abilities, they can easily win against Mecha in his normal form.
***** Just what does Yoshi have over Mecha Sonic? I honestly can't see one thing... His long tongue is nothing against Mecha Sonic's Chaos Control, the ground pound wouldn't work against Mecha's metal body, am I missing something here?
***** He was stronger then before in part 8, but not stronger than Mario, and I doubt he'd be able to take down Mecha Sonic single-handedly.
The Wario and Waluigi segments are my favourite parts to watch. Apart from the fight scenes.

Still my favorite sprite fight of all time. Alvin Earthworm went ALL THE WAY in this. There is so much attention to detail in the choreography and ten years later I am still finding new little nuances in the spritework. This video always gets me pumped.

even though there were a few moments with rough animation (sonic running up the mountain for example) i still overall think this is the best episode of smbz, the fights are so good

Honestly the BEST episode in the series. Very action packed and beautiful choreography in the battles. Plus Wario catching fire from seemingly out of nowhere is hilarious.
I don't care what opinions you have on this series or other sprite series, I respect them. But it is hard fact that THIS episode is the episode that truly cemented SMBZ's status as one of the most if not THE most legendary sprite series in history so far. It had fights with intensity we'd never seen at the time, and each and every move just connects so smoothly. And the memorable music selection makes it all the better.
