That is awesome how you restored that air sander to working order. It looks much better too. Excellent work.

I did the exact same thing to a used inline sander. And I also used good paints in my refurnishing efforts. And therefore it didn't take long for it to look ratty again. Now I have powder coating capabilities and I think that will allow it to look good for a longer time. Maybe you need to switch to powder coating as well. Thumbs Up!

Yes. Powder coating expensive. I have not enough money.

I love the old Rodac air tools...I must have had my old 3/8 air ratchet for 20 years and probably rebuilt it 4-5 times. Nice job on this one! Typically don't use grease on the cylinders, I used Marvel Mystery Oil and a few drops in the inlet every time I used it...pistons wear evenly and seal better with it.

Great video I'm glad i saw it. I just have one question. How do you know position to put the pistons to make it work. Especially that center gear that controls the back and fourth flow of air to make the pad move correctly.

I would like to know the same answer. Perhaps you would increase the number of subscribers to your video & channel. With editing, maybe on try number 31, it worked! That has been my experience with this tool only that I bought in the 70’s. Timing is everything and even though I have a newer one, I still have my RODAC straight line sander, Model 8000A, Los Angeles, CA.
So with California being so friendly to the business community and free market principles, they were most like forced to move, to out of business or sell to a company overseas! Yes, I still have mine.
I will give it a good ole Yankee try and figure it out....Then not tell anyone!

For everyone like me who looked here to the only Google video, picture or reference to the timing - here it is: Both gears all the way forward, the high tab on the inside center shaft drive also forward. Set the board on carefully with the driven straight gear or tooth plate spaced 3/16" from the front stop. Then secure the side plates keeping everything in place. Don't let the shafts fall out of the drive gears when you tilt it.

@@matthiasweigel311 start with 120 grit, then 240 grit and so on and so on. and when you finish with the 1500/200 grit and there are NO scratces and holes, then you use your felt wheel..
