2024 Lotus Emira: The Last of Its Kind

- Thanks to backing under Geely ownership, the future of Lotus is both secure and bright - but there’s a sea change on the horizon. The new Emira is officially the final gas-powered sports car from the boutique British brand, so if you’ve ever (and we mean that) wanted a new Lotus of your own, the time to buy is now. But is this thoroughly modernized Emira considered one of the greatest send-offs in motoring history? That’s exactly what West Coast Bureau Chief Conner Golden set out to discover on a desert road trip.
Immediately, the Emira impressed with apparent tight quality control, solid materials and an infotainment system that appeared sourced from a genuine automaker, not Autozone. That’s to say nothing of the fantastic powertrain: The Emira’s familiar Toyota-sourced supercharged 3.5-liter V-6 screams out 400 horsepower and 317 pounds-feet of torque, sent through your choice of a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. As Golden discovered during his drive, the transmission is the easiest choice you’ll make when ordering your new sports car.
The most difficult will be picking the right suspension. At launch, the Emira is offered in either Touring or Sport configurations, with the latter oriented toward owners who plan to drive on the road more than the track. Golden found the Touring spec to be more than capable for weekend canyon cruises, but it all comes down to preference.
The big question remains: Is this a fitting send-off for Lotus’ long line of gas-powered sports cars? Find out by watching our video above.

There is a good chunk of space behind the rear seats which sort of makes up for the lack of a front trunk. The Cayman doesn’t have any space back there.
The Cayman has two trunks, though.
Music is too loud
Well, it's funny that you didn't notice that there's a fairly large storage compartment behind the seats that can hold at least 3 cabin bags. It's worth a good look around sometimes before you leave your girl at home because you're packing bags on the passenger seat. 😂
You can NEVER beat a mid engine, 4 wheels double wishbone suspension, Hydraulic steering rack and a manual transmission attached to a supercharged engine all for around $110K. But it should not be you primary car since it's a Lotus.😜 Just picked up mine yesterday and the next 1000miles break-in will be painful 😣😣
Confused why it took 3/4s of the video to get to the driving impressions. Once those impressions did start, good job.
The roller bag actually fits in the space behind the passenger seat quite nicely.
Shame they didn’t give you a manual to test. I pick my Emira up tomorrow!
Nice! I think (no real update from my dealer) mine is built at this point but still waiting for it to arrive....What spec did you go with?
@@stephenoliphant7803 Went with six cylinder, manual, Seneca blue with red leather, leather steering wheel, black pack, silver wheels, red calipers and privacy glass. Would have picked up last week but had to wait for PPF! You?
@@Rex_Racer Mine is pretty similar. Seneca with black pack (manual) and diamond cut wheels. Yellow calipers and ice interior, no privacy with a leather steering wheel. I'm thinking I will do PPF once I have the car. I was quoted $5500 for the whole car so not cheap but I want the paint protected. Its been such a long wait I keep having to stop myself from ordering random mods for a car I don't even have yet. I at least need try it out stock first....lol
@@Rex_Racer I love the Blue Colour
Nice, you’ll love it. Had mine about a month. Magma Red, black pack, 6 cylinder, manual . I delayed a week for PPF too. Got 1500 miles on it now.
Don't normally like dark colours on sports cars.. but that looks great
I always travel with duffle bags :)
Get soft luggage 🧳
Soft luggage, manual transmission, touring suspension.
You’re welcome.
Lol😂😂😂😂😂 Thanks.
As a Emira owner I suggest not buying this configuration. Make sure it has 3 pedals!
You don't buy these types of cars to put stuff in
There might be someone who buys these types of cars for grocery shopping. I saw one who drove conv. z4 for his own restaurant supply in Melbourne
Lotus has not been British for years now 🤦🏽♂️
while I appreciate providing a review. this is an example of how not to do it. First off, stating you have to put your carryon in the passenger area while you know it fits just fine behind the seat. It's like you were trying to make a negative point when there wasn't one. Second, you mention about the area where the phone sits. You stated it can be a struggle getting it out especially when driving. Why would you be getting your phone out while driving - you absolutely shouldn't be. And since very few auto reviews, really wish more time spent on the trans in auto vs paddle in different driving scenarios. Not trying to negative nancy but some room for improvement next time. thanks
I cringe every time I see a Lotus with and automatic. What a waste.
