I've been traveling to RMNP each year since 2016, and your videos open my eyes to new hikes that I didn't know existed. My daughter and I will be visiting again this summer. Keep posting content please!!
Thanks for zooming in on Mirror Lake. Proposed to my fiancee there about a week before Cameron Peak fire started, and thankfully the actual spot I proposed looks un-burned. That's probably the clearest footage/photography of that zone I've seen since the fire. Cheers.
Thanks for watching! I was very happy the Mirror Lake section wasn't annihilated. It looks like the trail leading in has some bad spots.. but all-in-all its not as bad as it could have been.
I am so impressed with how much ground you cover in one day. That marmot with the flowers was adorable! I would be so tempted to climb that scary rock top....but your wiser than me. Hugs
That little guy was cute. When I did Chapin, Chiquita and Ypsilon (CCY Route) I had one on my shoe for a few minutes. I think he was trying to eat it.. I tried climbing that rock before but I started getting shakey. It slopes off to a 1000 foot drop into no-mans land on the right side. Its too much for me! Thanks for watching :)
What a great view of the Mummies from an unusual perspective. Beautiful report as usual, fantastic video, thank you. My guess is that a lot of those "orange" trees are dead lodgepole pines from the beetle infestation. Forests in RMNP are just devastated. Farther north in Wyoming, the species seems to have more resistance. Those forests are in much better shape, but there is infestation as far north as Washington Pass in the Cascades.
That hike looked a bit scary. I was on the trail between the Loch and Lake of Glass one time, and a tree came down from up on the side of one of the adjacent mountains and brought a bunch of rocks down with it.
Wow! That would have been a sight to see! I had a friend tell me about a hike they were doing and someone above kicked down a boulder that took out a small tree next to him. Luckily I wasnt on that one with him. 😂
Fabulous hike, fabulous views. Have always loved the hiking there but have never gone past Ypsilon. A lightning storm once chased me off Chiquita. It's the only place I have ever seen a Mountain Lion in the wild - in the trees. Have long wanted to go down Chapin Creek; then up the Cache la Poudre to Milner Pass but have never done it; the logistics are difficult. My wife and I love your videos of the RMNP and area. Our first intro to the area was a 6-day backpack out of Wild Basin in the 70s.
The wildlife up there is crazy! I always see something. But yeah, the weather is unpredictable in that area. Better to be safe than sorry. Looks tough to link that with Milner too. That'd be a hike!
For some reason your comments don't come through all the time. I see them in my notifications but then when I go to give it the heart the comment is gone! I dont know whats going on..

Hey! Your videos have helped us plan our upcoming trip to Estes Park and what hikes we would like to do. My husband said he would buy you a beer if your in town!
Thanks for this video, few people make it out that far in The Mummy Range. Is that ridge (at the end) as loose as it appears? It looks like a rock version of the milk crate challenge
Lol! Are you talking about the ridge that extends out on Desolation Peaks? Im not sure.. never made it that far. But the main rocky high point I went up and over was not solid ground. It was literally a pile of rocks. When I got to the top you can see a hole going through the stacked rocks and the wind was whistling through there. Its no surprise a boulder broke free and came crashing down.
What type of mount do you shoot with your GoPro? Or is it all by hand? On hikes I usually use a hand stick for my GoPro but I'd like to get something else so my hands are free to use for grip or poles.
I have it mounted to one of my backpack straps, up high kinda by my shoulder with a Ulanzi mount. Its a little heavy, but works well. I can pop it off and hand shoot, which is what I do 99% of the time or leave it on the strap for hands free.
Its pretty rare and Ive actually never seen one falling like that before. I'll usually just be out somewhere and hear the noise. But at first the brown color made me think it was and Elk or something jumping down directly at me, but it ended up being a giant boulder. It disappeared behind the ridge a little ways down.. then a huge plume of dirt rose up from where it landed. I was standing there without my cam or else I would have gotten it. It was sitting by my backpack in the chill spot.
i would like to share a contribution to your endeavors but would rather a one time thing that does not get skimmed off the top by a service. Any options that work for you? Your videos have brought me a great deal of enjoyment. I get the Patrion thing but I really dont need the previews as I like your completed edited stuff.
Thanks so much for offering to support the channel! I only have patreon and the gofundme is still up. Unfortunately they all skim off the top. I dont know a way to bypass it.
@@jmlincolorado Wow! Thank you! Thats is a huge amount. I cant even express how good it makes me feel to have some financial help for the channel and also just knowing people like my work. I moved out here to the front range in my mid 20s . I am now 59 and know the areas you have focused on quite well, however I did not explore it like you are now during my time here. These videos are helpng me to pass on my love of this area to my daughter who was born here but is now working on a math PhD in Utah.I especially love when you get good shots of the BACK SIDE of the Indian peaks from up close. Neat stuff for me.
No, took me 3 days just to get it loaded to RUclips! Lol. I did the hike back on July 29. I used a Gopro Hero 9 for everything but the few zoom shots. Those were done with a Nikon B700.
The loose rock and broken jagged cliffs look gnarly. I bet it’s creepy up there alone. I found map for the final stretch to get the summits of both and it says class3+ About how long does the drive take from the grand lake entrance station to trailhead?
@@greenlenny3926 I think if you can get over the section that stopped me it gets a little easier but I dont know.. there is still a ways to go after that. And entering from the Grand Lake side could be rough since Old Fall River Road is one way. Im guessing 1:20 maybe to go all the way over Trail Ridge and then back up Old Fall River.. or you could just park at the Alpine visitor center and hike down to the TH. But that's gonna add some miles.
Another great video! Thanks for keeping RMNP alive for us, even when we are far away (for now)!
