- We were met with a lot of positive shock when we told people how much it cost us to adopt here in the UK. There's a myth that it's very expensive when in actual fact it's not!

Another great really useful video :) our medical was quite expensive at £150 but lots of people in our support group didn’t have to pay anything so I think it really varies . Everything else so far has been free or reimbursed by our LA so for anyone interested in adoption don’t let costs put you off :)
It definitely does vary from doctor to doctor. That’s the most expensive I’ve heard of so far! Really glad you’ve found everything else has been able to be reimbursed ☺️
Our main expense was taking unpaid leave for appointments, visits etc. I do think there should be more financial support for prospective adopters
This is really helpful, thank you.
Hi Molly,
First of all, thank you for what you are doing through this channel. As the adoption leave paybis very low (£600 per month, on average), do you know if there are any additional funds during this period?
Hey! I don’t believe there is. It’s exactly the same as maternity pay. I believe there can sometimes be financial arrangements agreed if there is any specific support needed but I don’t know enough about that CNN
Do they speak with your family when going through the process? ❤
@@toniwilliams7193 they did with ours
@@MollyMamaAdopt thank you ❤️
Hi. Your videos are really appreciated 🙏🏼 I want to ask you, when does the adoption leave starts, when the child is placed at new home, or earlier during the adoption process. Thank you
Hey! Mine started at intros. I believe you can start once you’ve been officially matched x

Very useful and informative thanks for sharing
Very informative, thanks
Do you know wether there is any support for nursery/ childcare for adopted children? Do they get the 30 free hours earlier?
I don’t believe it’s 30 hours but my son has received 15 hours from the age of 2.
Hi Molly, I am living in northern Ireland, interested in adopting. How do I go about it.
Hey! I’m unsure of the process in NI - so sorry. I know it’s different to the one in England.
What is the medical like? I'm disabled and I'm really worried i won't pass the medical! :(
It’s not too bad! For me it was a standard form that the GP went through with a private section at the end. I think you can download a copy on the Coram BAAF website if you want to have a look in advance. Don’t worry!
Naomi mercer, how did you find the GP visit etc? I'm disabled and I'm super worried about that. It's hard finding people who are disabled and going/been through it. I would love you chat to you if you have the time?
Molly - this has been super helpful!! Did you have to ask the adoption agency beforehand about the fees and what support they offer or do you talk about it with you SW during the process? Thanks so much!
Me too! I'm trying to get healthier to be well enough to adopt got a goal of about the years to get better just hate it's not completly in my control 😔
Sorry silly question: what is vet references? All I can think of are veterinarians.
Not at all! Vets in the UK is where we take our pets for medical treatment.
Follow up question, why would one need a veterinarian reference? To ensure you are a good dog mum?
@@HazelIvy26 hi. In our case it was to ensure we took our pet for regular vaccinations and treatments. Our social worker needed to ensure they were healthy and fit to be around children.
@@MollyMamaAdopt Ah so it's more a test of the dog! That makes much more sense! I thought the vet would be writing almost a letter of recommendation on your "parenting" abilities 😂
@@HazelIvy26 yes! Literally checking the animal and their behaviour, health etc. they’re one of the family after all 😌
