Those are sweet gifts to remember your Aunt. After my husband's sister passed away, I acquired some of her quilt pieces. I finished them and passed them on to her sisters. They were thrilled. And i kept 1 for me
This video has prompted me to hunt out some embroidery pieces that my grandmother made. I'm sure i have them somewhere still but i had no idea what to do with them when she passed some 15 odd years ago. It's time to give them the light of day ⭐ Thanks
I think you made a really good job with those pieces and I'm sure all the family members will appreciate them. I was given some fabric from the stash of a friend who passed away a few years ago. Amongst it were three Christmas themed cross stitch pieces. I then incorporated them into a small Christmas throw quilt and I am giving it to a mutual friend for Christmas. (I just realised I forgot to photograph it before I wrapped it!) The quilt label credits both myself and the friend as the makers. I'm hoping she likes it!
Kristin, you are a dear person to create this tribute to your husband's aunt and gift memories of beauty and character to your family members. Your project is inspiring. And your video is a captivating visual of how each gift evolved: the melding of your thoughts and sewing expertise.
I love this so much! The sustainability aspect (which is something I love about your channel in general) and the deadline (I love deadlines myself). Very inspiring!!
Super job with the three needlepoint florals. I wouldn't have been so brave to trim them up and cut through the stitching. Fearless! )) That 's you. You give us permission to do what needs doing.
😂 thanks! As far as I know they’ve been sitting untouched in a drawer for decades so not too much risk if it went wrong I guess! Plus didn’t know how else to do it!
Love the needlepoint! My grandmother did needlepoint and taught it to me. She would use it to be framed, backs or seats (with padding) on chairs, or part of a pillow. They last a long time and can be cleaned if needed. She willed me a set of chairs that had needlepointed seats. They are in great shape and over 110 yrs. old
You did great repurposing all those pieces. Yes, those leftover floral blocks do look like the 70s. They might make cute pincushions or needle books. Or cute centers for crazy quilt blocks to make tote bags out of. Anyway, I'm sure you'll think of something. You are pretty amazing!
What lovely mementos you’ve made for the family to remember her by. I’m sure Judy would be grateful that you took on the task of fully finishing her handwork. Each one is unique & i think you’ve done a fabulous job of listening to what they wanted to become!
I made a small red and white quilt from my friends mother's blouses. I left the pockets on when I could. When my friends son came to pick it up, he immediately said that he remembered his Grandmother wearing one of the blouses. It was a huge comfort for my friend.
What a lovely tribute to your Husband's Aunt. You made lovely memories from them. Thank you sew much for sharing. Great job to you and Tome organizing Quiltmas, love to watch every yeaa, Happy Holidays to you and your family.
My grandparents owned a furniture store in Detroit. My Grandfather was a carpenter and my Grandmother sewed the cushions and helped upholster the furniture. In the 50's my grandmother made quilts for our cabin out of the fabric sample books. In 2020 only one remained and I was going to mend it but decided to take it apart and make wall hangings for all of her grandchildren. The batting in this quilt was an old comforter that had been patched with kitchen towels to cover the areas that had worn out. My favorite project ever.
A great video. Encourages me to add note cards to my UFO projects. Currently working on memory bears for a dear friend for his family. I personally would prefer not having gifts given, returned. Especially unused, however loved and treasured they were.
Well done ,you made a lot of very pretty gifts. My idea for the scarf would be a foldable tote bag which one can keep in the handbag and have it on hand when needed!❤
These are all really special. In future if you work with tapestry or cross stitch if you wet the piece and place on a mat with pins you can square them up so you don’t have to cut them. Merry Christmas
Loved what you did I once finished a needlepoint for my Mum which had been started by an old friend. For future reference needlepoint stitches tend to go one way - think half a cross stitch - so it can be out of square when finished. To fix this simply wet, pin to square and leave to dry.
You did a great job with those handmade items. I've done some needlepoint and the reason it gets wonky is because you always stitch in the same direction (not crossing back over like in cross stitch). So the finished items need to be blocked to bring them back to square. Very durable, though, and perfect for cushion covers. Hopefully the recipients will enjoy them for many years 😊❤🎉
That makes sense - couldn’t have looked it up ahead of time as I didn’t even know it was called needlepoint until you guys told me 😂! I know for next time - if there is one!
Years ago, the first round of Care Bears I cross stitched the bears then bordered the with sashing and made a baby quilt for my cousin. There was a needlework called crewel which was with yarn. You could border the tapestries and make table toppers or a pillow.
Hey, Kristen! It’s obvious that you were the perfect person to receive pieces! Your thoughtful and creative gifts that you made from these are sure to be treasured by their recipients! Just a thought re your mother-in-laws gorgeous zippered pouch…I think that it would make a beautiful reversible cross body bag by adding D-rings and a simple strap. Wishing you and yours a safe and Happy Christmas and New Year! Muskoka ON 🇨🇦
My mother did q lot of needlepoint, tapestry and cross stitch. I did a similar thing to you, I sewed strips of fabric around the picture and turned them into cushions. I had the same problem as you trying to square up the edges!
Thanks Debee! Someone will have bought your Mom’s work and it is living a new life out there I’m sure - take comfort that you gave her work the chance to live again with someone else.
@@ScrapFabricLove Please don't say that! We ALL have those moments when the word we need won't come to our brain or mouth! I'm the WORST!!! I just happened to think of it at the time when you couldn't! Have a super day and a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Those 70s coloured embroideries could be cut down smaller (to cut the brown down a little) and framed out with some fabric that's a little more appealing in these current times. You may be aurprised at how well they end up looking - at least i hope you do
How many gifts do you need those needle point wouldbenice The needle point would be nice framed as gifts Do not think that it would hold up in a quilt 😮
Tell me about memory/memorial gifts you've made for friends & family!

Very nice projects. I am sure the family will treasure them.
What a nice idea to remember and appreciate someone. You made a lot of interesting things. Thank you for the inspiration. Katrin from Germany❤
Thanks!
))) Asymmetry and denim with the embroidery is PERFECT. You amaze me every time. )))
Thanks so much!
In America we call the tapestries "needlepoint". I love all the items you made...especially the cushion covers ❤
Thanks! Yes several folk have corrected me about the needlepoint - I know now!

Beautifully done. And I particularly like the "full-hand" vs "squished-hand" method of measuring.
Thanks! My favorite kind of measuring!

Thanks so much! Someone else said I should lean into the 70’s look and add my denim…I’m considering it!
What a lovely group of presents for your husband's family 🧡
Thank you 💕

The yellow flannel piece with the embroidery flowers would look so cool with denim and made into a pouch! I’d play on the 70’s look!
Fab idea! One of those ‘ why didn’t I think of that’ moments when I read your comment!
I made 6 lap sized quilts for my siblings and I out of my mom's cotton dresses. I used the Hugs and kisses pattern.
Wonderful!
I made a small red and white quilt from my friends mother's blouses. I left the pockets on when I could. When my friends son came to pick it up, he immediately said that he remembered his Grandmother wearing one of the blouses. It was a huge comfort for my friend.
What a wonderful gift! 💕
I love love what you did here and how you think. Fantastic! Your sentiments are felt! You're giving them back a piece of her. ❤
Thanks so much!

That sounds fabulous. Well worth doing! Such a lovely moment for the grandchildren.
You are such a blessing. I got some inspiration for the box of things I am reluctant to give away because I love something on it.
So glad it gave you some ideas! Good luck with your projects!
Ilike the orange back cushion. The flower is very well done. I love the off side effect. Your so creative i love your channel❤
Thanks so much!

Very creative !!!
I have that magazine, lol. I’ve been quilting since 1972 Michigan, USA
How funny 😂! What a small world!
Awesome job!
Very nice job. I really like her embroidery and needlepoint projects and what you did with them.
Thank you! 😊

Love your style

Thanks Pat! That is a good idea either way the pouch but unfortunately it’s already gone down south to its recipient!
Well done.
Thanks!

At least I’m not the only one with the edges!
Great ideas - I wish I had done that with my Mom’s stitching projects - instead of sending to a second hand shop. ❤❤
Thanks Debee! Someone will have bought your Mom’s work and it is living a new life out there I’m sure - take comfort that you gave her work the chance to live again with someone else.
I love this.
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing
I have made many memorial quilts from family members clothing. I stabilized seams on knit fabrics with a one inch strip of a stabilizer.
Lovely!
We would call that needlepoint!
Thanks! I’m so ignorant! 😂

😮
There was no set number needed. I think they gave it all to me to get it off their hands!
The magazine cost 99 pence, top right corner, it's a UK one.
Quite right! Makes more sense how she got it! Guess it was just published by a Canadian company!
needlepoint.
