Actually there were no strength issues with the original redhawks. It turns out that there was a problem with the lubricant used on the barrel threads when the barrels were screwed into the frames. Being made of stainless steel, lubricant quality is crucial because stainless steel galls easily when under severe stress, such as screwing in a barrel. After the lube problem was resolved, no further redhawk problems were encountered, as they remain in production to this day.
I appreciate the info. The internet can be a dangerous place to grab info from. I assumed that the reading I did was more to the effect that the redhawk would not handle the higher pressures of the 454 and rounds like it. I should have explained it better that the Redhawks aren't weak guns, but the super redhawk was beefed up to handle the higher than 44 mag pressure rounds. Thanks again 👍
The Super Redhawk has a better action in terms of function, same design as the GP100, using separate springs instead of the Redhawk single spring. The New Vaquero and Flattop from Ruger are built on a smaller (Colt SAA sized frame and cylinder). You shouldn't use the 30 to 35 thousand Cup +p loads. They are safe in the large frame Ruger Blackhawk, and obviously in the ultra strong Redhawk and Super Redhawk. Stay safe.

At least you got yours to work, after sending mine back to the factory it still won’t work. 460xvr vs 454... thats what everyone whats to know. Which happens to be also a ruger vs s&w I like the 454 is 1lb lighter, has 1 extra round, and cheaper, with better customer service . That being said 460xvr looks way cooler and faster velocity, but as you said...do you really need it? Difficult to pick, unfortunately you have to pick because buying 2 for most people is sillly since you'll just take 1 hunting. Buying 2 expensive revolvers vs buying 1 expensive revolver and more ammo....ill go with buy 1 and more ammo. I will say 45. Can be the do it all gun, to rule them all. Since the spectrum of 460mag - cowboy special has every possible velocity from low to high in pistol. Gives 45-70 a good run for its money too, which cant be cut down to specials. Im leaning more towards the ruger , the build quality looks better
It's worth mentioning that the 460 can shoot the 454 as well as 45 colt. It's essentially a 454 magnum. That said, it's friggin huge and unwieldy with an 8" barrel. God forbid a scope gets mounted up because you end up around 5-6 lbs and shooting freehand is only for the muscle bound among us. It also had a bit of an unpleasant slap in the face effect due to the muzzle brake.
@@triplefshooting mmhm. 460 power at the cost of extra weight... but question is do you really need that extra velocity considering 454 is already fast🤔. 6lb hand gun is pretty wacky , that being said shooting 200 yards flat is very cool. I see numerous videos where the 460 cases expand so much they get stuck in the cylinder and have to be poked out with a wooden dowell punch and a hammer 460 has so much case pressure they expand and get stuck just one of the negative things I think they're too too too too much

This 454 was really impressive at its time and still is, but it is definitely not the top dog anymore.
@@triplefshooting I also have a 629classsic 44mag I've seen some one use the 44mag +p+ in one and had no problems I would not chance that with a model 29 because of the weeker steel, but in the 6 1/2 inch its my favorite gun, the 500mag has made me like it a lot more, the heavy dubbel luged 8 3/8 barrel makes it handle best with 2 hands but it makes the gun to much to live with for me, in 2003 it was the only barrel length I could get in 500mag , I waited a few months then gave in and just got the 8 3/8 barrel 500mag,
I like those, but I'd never want to be in a place where you need it..
Dick casuals 454 will outlive all the monster rounds they're just Overkill
"There is a mount for a scope but the last guy who had it tightened it so hard it took some chunks out" I'm just imagining some poor guy trying to take a shot while looking through the scope, and then having the gun recoil into his face, knocking the scope loose.
I despise other videos where all they show you is the same frame and a guy's hands
460xvr vs 454... thats what everyone whats to know.
Which happens to be also a ruger vs s&w
I like the 454 is 1lb lighter, has 1 extra round, and cheaper, with better customer service .
Honestly the 454 seems the adult move but my childish ego gets to me wanting the bigger faster revolver. Idk maybe wishful thinking but with skill maybe the 460 can completely be the do it all gun.
Seem we'll need a part 2 video comparing both side by side 😊
@oscarbear7498 it will eventually be a thing. My father has one and took a deer with it around 170 yards!
@@triplefshootingany ideas on a 460 & 454 revolver comparison video😁
170 yards is very impressive out of a revolver. I'm still in-between both
I have a 45 colt , I bought just to stock up on colt 45 ammo, start reloading for it and because I got it very cheaply compared to a 454 & 460.
Still this year will be the year I pick, everything screams get the 454, be an adult. it's more than enough, but.... a 460 is just more of a cool factor , I can already imagine showing my buddies the monster revolver telling stories on how people take deer at 170 yards np😎
I see numerous videos where the 460 cases expand so much they get stuck in the cylinder and have to be poked out with a wooden dowell punch and a hammer 460 has so much case pressure they expand and get stuck just one of the negative things I think they're too too too too much
I would recommend to anybody to wear some kind of tactical leather gloves these things can explode or burn your hand
Don't let an amateur shoot this type of gun without having them dry fire it about 15 to 20 times
I had a cowboy single action I will never buy another one
Wildcat meow
I would not buy any other firearm besides the super Vaqueros you need that beefy metal to not blow your hand off
Numerous comments tell the story that the 9-in shoots super accurate but is awkward to carry around
In California we can't have the 5-inch I don't need a 2-inch snub and I didn't want a 9-inch
And FYI these came out in 97 and not in the 80s
From what I could find it was late 87 or something. But trusting the internet is not the best idea either lol
Top
I see what you did there...lol
@@triplefshooting better than a bottom lol
I bore my dog as well:(
Thankfully they don't usually talk back...
Hand load partner, unless you have Elon musk's bank account.
I don't like the huge frame on a 500 Smith & Wesson
If you're an amateur do not reload 454 Casull you can blow your hand off it's not worth it
These are safer guns do not get a Antiquated single action
Killing animals is to me simply very horrible yet I understand why people go hunting if they eat their kill, yet don't you think all animals including us humans should eat vegetable and fruit, instead of meat, NO disrespect of course oranges and apples.
what is the barrel lenght of your ruger super redhawk 454 casull?
7.5"
Do not let an amateur shoot your gun in this huge caliber absolutely wear glasses and a heavy leather glove
If you want a 460 handgun you should just get a 460 lever action and get a short 16 inch barrel
