FULL BATHROOM RENOVATION Part 2 | Boarding & Tanking the shower area
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 15 ноя 2024
- Full Bathroom Renovation continues with the boarding of the walls with Larsen Thermal Tiling boards and the fully tanking the area to water proof it completely before the lads come and get it tiled.
This is the way i lay a shower tray in a bathroom, never had an issue, and if you see that this tray can also be fitted on 4 legs in each corner, it goes to shower laying it flat on a bed of Dura+/silicone etc etc gives it a lot more rigidity anyway.

No problem 👌🏼👍🏼
I tried sand and cement did not work, so used low yield foam, worked a treat tray been installed for 2 years now no cracking or leaks, love the vlog bud, and I have clicked the sub button.
Thanks buddy and welcome aboard
Sunken bathroom refurbished is looking great Mark 👍😁
Thanks mate, tilers are currently have a bit of a nightmare on it
Shower board doesn't need tanking, its designed to be waterproof, also the board should be put up with washers as screws just pull through.
Thanks for watching 👍🏼
Shower boards can be tanked if the installer wants to for extra waterproofing….
Boards are fully secure as they have been fitted, taped and sealed… not a problem at all
Its all looking really good now . Great preparation on the walls and floor . Will save any problems occurring 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks John… yep it’s going to come tougher soon enough
The bathroom is coming on a treat now, I can’t wait to see the finished results.
I like the trap door access to the shower tray waste pipe etc, it would be great to see the customers
reaction to the finished job???
I’m glad the detox has gone well for you and you appear to be pleased with the results.
I’m looking forward to the next bathroom episode, have a good week, take care, regards, Chris 👍👍🍻🍻
Thanks Chris, they are ober the moon at where it is all ready…. I will try and get them on if they want to😉😉
@@MJTiffPlumbing that will be great 👍👍👍
Loving the sunken bath videos, can tell your happier than at the barn, makes a difference to the videos
Thanks Henry….. doesn’t it just, the barn job really did get to me.
Loving this bathroom, it’s going to look awesome
Coming together nicely mark, see what you did there with the trap, nice work. Looking forward to the finish on this one 👌👍
Thanks Wayne….. will be great when it’s done👍🏼👍🏼
Glad you have popped up on my RUclips. Great vids. I’m having a Sunday binge on your channel 👊🏼
Thanks buddy…. Enjoy and always plenty more to come every Wednesday and Sunday at 6pm 🙌🏼
@@MJTiffPlumbing looking forward to it. Alerts are set 👊🏼
just wondering if you shouldve used washers on those screws holding up the wedi/jako/marmox boards on the shower walls? If thats what they are of course.
I’m about to a wet room for my mate’s widow. Definitely going to look up the products you have used Mark. 👍
Nice one Barry 👍🏼👍🏼
Bathrooms looking good. Come on quick as well. Nice to see how the rankings done thanks for showing that.
Giveaway looks great ill be on it. I've got an old beat up mechanics led stick light I swear by when working on anything but it's definitely seen better days.
Thanks mate…. Yer it’s coming together, will again next week when the tiling starts🙌🏼🙌🏼
Wicked video that sunken bath now shower great give away nice bit of kit can't wait for the finish article on the bathroom keep up the good work Tiffy
Thanks mate… it’s going to look mega when it’s done😉👍🏼
Top video as usual mark. Job is looking amazing. Can’t wait for the finished product
Thanks mate… wait Till the tiles are on, will look proper smart
Bathrooms looking great, looking forward to seeing it complete, and hopefully win some of that kit 🚽👍👍
Thanks Peter……
Yer it’s coming along now, Tiler starts tomorrow👍🏼👍🏼
Nice, I like to use washers on them boards though, my mate had a whole porcelain wall fall in without them. Get some packers under the tray before sticking it down aswell
Easier to fit pal
Keep them coming, always a good watch
No need for packers, it’s completely bedded down, these trays also come with 4 legs that attach to each corner so can be raised up on them and still be fine….. I’ve fitted hundreds and never had an issue.
As for these Thermo boards they are secured very well with no issues
Nice one mark 👍👍 proper job that’s going to look awesome 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Thanks mate, yer I think it will look mega when it’s done😉
Great video mark. Word of warning on the no nonsense silicone. I had problems with it not sticking very well. Had to go back to a few bathrooms and redo the silicone. I use Dow Corning 785 and it’s much better!
Shortage of silicone from Dow Corning at the moment….. merchants struggling to get it
I watch your video all the time, doing my level 2 plumbing course, one day may be I will be like you,lol
Thankyou mate, good luck with your course👍🏼👍🏼
Hi mate,
Would really appreciate a bit of advice! Been going through your vids of fitting shower trays, I’ve got a mira flight 900x900… my floor is pretty good, could do with maybe 1 or 2mm up on the back end. Wanting to bed it on silicon as per your method. Question - is there any levelling available with your method? Or does it rely on the floor being 10000% perfect before you start? Worried about it not being fully supported if I try adjusting with the bed of silicon! Thank you
I have been quiet pal but I've still been watching. Enjoyable as always.
Great giveaway 👌🏼
Hey Malc…. Hope your well buddy.
Great to see your still watching 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Another good video Mark. Very interesting.
Thanks Brian…. Really glad you enjoyed it mate
Great video as always. One observation….don’t leave those levels near the tray!!! Believe you me it’s a costly mistake waiting to happen. I once had a 1200mm level leant up against a wall. It accidentally got knocked over and fell against the edge of a £600 tray, chipping it! 😭 Yep the tray had to be replaced before work could continue.
Oohhh that’s gonna hurt 🙈🙈🙈
There is many companies carry out invisible repairs on baths ,shower trays , porcelain tiles ,worktops etc etc
New builds often get secondary damage during construction and they certainly don't rip stuff out
They get the guy in to do invisible repairs
Great content bud👍🏻 Considering what a pita it looked like it was going to be, you’ve made nice progress.
Cheers mate, yer it’s took some work but will look so good when finished
Lovely renovation bath mate

Faruk
Thanks mate….🙌🏼🙌🏼
What a transformation, going to look great when done. Nice change that someone thought of an access hatch for the shower waste! I bet it's much better managing the project yourself as opposed to barn conversion. Some great stuff in giveaway 😊
Thanks mate, yes it’s going to look superb when it’s done🙌🏼
Hatch is very handy
Good vid very interesting when it’s finished it’s going to look fab but I still worry about slipping maybe just a age thing for me great stuff.
Thanks buddy….👍🏼👍🏼
Wait till it’s tiled….. I will make a point of pointing it out just for you Rich😉👍🏼
Great vid. Gonna be doing my bathroom soon so very helpful stuff. 👍🏼
Thanks Matt…. Hopefully you can grab some tips🙌🏼🙌🏼
Hi Mark,
Love the chanel, thanks for your input to the industry.
Bit worried about the your tile backing board installs, I always thought that these needed grab adhesive onto the studwork, but more importantly, wide insulation washers every 200mm where next board joins. Not sure that a wood screw head, is enough to hold all that weight of tiling???
Thanks for the comment Peter.
Never had an issue doing it this way, I get what your saying however whatever you do and post on RUclips someone will have a concern…👍🏼👍🏼
I fitted an outside tap using red rawl plugs once and someone commented they should of been brown🤣🙄🙄
@@MJTiffPlumbing Agreed.
A lot of bellends out there...😆
A question about tanking around the shower base please. I notice you put some tanking on the wall nearest the tray rim and then folded the tape in half, attaching one half to the tanking on the wall but not the half that lipped onto the tray. What happens with that bit?
Do you tile to the tray and then stanley the excess tape off the tray after it goes off and before tiling?
Do you tank the tape to the tray?
Remove the tape overlapping the tray before tiling, THEN tile and silicone between tile and shower base?
Loving the big job content, bit like what you start out with....to be fair that barn stuff was dragging
Tell me about it….. I can only show what I’m doing… Real World Plumbing😉😉
Great project, it’s a bit different than a normal bathroom job, really interesting to see. I know you were really tight for space with the shower tray but I might have thought about putting Classi Seal around the tray? It’s got me out of the shite once or twice. Always great content Mark. 👍🏼
Thanks mate…. Yer it’s a great job and very different.
Trust me, the way it’s sealed it it not letting any thing through it…😉
Great video as always!! Really enjoy the channel👍👌
Thanks Johnathan…. Appreciate the mate🙌🏼🙌🏼
Where can I get the tool that tightened up the waste at 8.24 point please
Great episode mate, the bathroom project looked a real challenge at the start but seeing how effortless you have made it seem is awesome. Keep up the great work and content.
Also remarkable on the detox mate like spomen to you about on the insta dm's 👍
🙌🏼🙌🏼 As always thankyou Jamie….. 😉👍🏼
Really appreciate your support buddy
Do you just cut the excess waterproofing tape off once it's been tiled on the tray?
Trim it down and seal yes mate👍🏼
Great video Mark👊
Thankyou buddy…🙌🏼🙌🏼
great content again mark as usual real life plumbing loves it im starting my detox programs tommorow so fingers crossed

Catching up with your videos this morning, been a busy guy myself doing a bathroom, that primer I use paint pads so I don't get soaked in it! but you seem to get on with that roller nicely!
As for the unilite stuffs, I hope the winner doesn't catch your nits from that beanie ;)

Hi Mark, great content, as always. When you taped around the shower base, did you trim off the excess with a sharp knife?
Thanks mate… glad you liked it.
Yes very carefully 👍🏼👍🏼

The Mapei kit seems to be a popular choice

I have never seen you work this hard 👀😳 , that access panel that’s a rare to have something like that, and waste trap , I do the same , but I definitely never use that tool, definitely interesting, not sure if that comes together with that particular trap you bought?
Cracking little panel isn’t it…….👍🏼
The shower trap is a MacAlpin one and the tool comes with it 🙌🏼
Looks a well sealed shower your subscribers are creeping up on your way to 10 k looking forward to the giveaway
Thanks Glyn, yep creeping up to the magical 10k….. hopefully by JAN 1st
Job is looking good 👍, did you say unilte do an ice scraper 🤔
Indeed they do mate😉😉…… unfortunatly without a light 🤣🤯
Looking good! Question though, since it was that tight and you’ve went to the extent on waterproofing, why not just slip a wet floor in?
Customer wanted to go down the tray route…👍🏼👍🏼
Wet floors are not a good idea on a timber floor, in my experience. The tile grout even when flexi is used, keeps breaking up. I ended up ripping the floor up and putting a tray in.
Looking good 👍👍
Not sure about the boards you are using on the wall and the primer, but you should look at the abacus element boards, these dont need primer, just paint and tape the joints. Save hours on a job, plus less plastic waste and no roller needed.
Thanks for the comment…👍🏼
No matter what you use on the walls someone will always say to use something else… I guess that’s just the trade we are in.
I will take a look at that what you said about for the future, appreciate the comment 👍🏼👍🏼
@@MJTiffPlumbing yeah there is 100 ways to do the same job to meet the same standards, and many different brands from Wedi to Mapei. All have there pros and cons. We found that using element boards from abacus was quicker as they didnt need primer, so reduced time and costs etc. Also comes down to whats available in stock in your local area you can pick up when you need it.
@@MJTiffPlumbing When i ment not sure about, i didnt mean they were wrong, we just mean we were not sure if you needed to prime them or not.
Why did you tank the whole boards ? Are they like jackoboards? I only water proof the joints with tape they sell and then prime it ready for tiling using sbr. Good work mate . All the best .
Thanks for watching mate.
Completely waterproofed mate, primed, then taped up and sealed with waterproofing membrane as shown…… The whole kit is to be used so covered all the wet area so it’s completely sealed.
which colour silicone best for waste?
Whatever you fancy to be honest.
I usually go for white
I've always used silicone to stick shower trays down too and always get pulled up by other plumbers. Never had an issue. They're just jealous.
Not a problem and a few companies are now saying it’s fine in the MI’s 👍🏼👍🏼
Great video
Thanks Lucas 👍🏼👍🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Great content as always and always been looking forward 2 videos a week. Definitely will take part of the giveaway if I’m free at that time because I mainly work nearly 7 days a week. Looking to get your SLR1750 light.
Thanks Sam…. You will get EVERYTHING if you win mate, not just the one light😉😉
@@MJTiffPlumbing Haha that will be very lucky for me since I never won anything till my age now
How come u haven't used the washers on the wedi board when u screw it back? Dont u find they can pull through?
These boards are fine fitted as they have been, no issues at all.
@@MJTiffPlumbing they need washers pal, 100%. That will fail.
Love watching your videos mate, very informative. I’m currently ploughing through my ASC portfolio and should be sitting the exam in the new year so trying to absorb as much info as possible.
Side note…..just in case you haven’t seen the recent news, the rules for recording videos whilst you’re driving is going to be an offence so be careful mate. Keep the videos coming and look forward to the giveaway!!
Thanks Paul and good luck with the exams.
Yes I have seen the news, looks like it will be lay-by videos soon…🤣🤣👍🏼
@@MJTiffPlumbing Cheers mate. Isn't there a website already for 'lay-by' videos? Something to do with dogs I think 🤣
Great video again man.
All seems to be coming along nicely on this one. How's this job feeling for you compared to the barn work?
Do love the mapei tanking kits, can't really go wrong.
Im also on team stick trays down with silicone. 👍
Cheers Kane…. Yer as this is my job, sorted by me and using my team it’s all going as it should, a lot better than that barn…😉

No harm on priming it for extra protection if you have the kit with all the stuff in it👍🏼👍🏼

Nice work. I've been following a few of your videos as I'm re-fitting our shower room. I'm following your approach with the tanking and it seems very sensible. When you fit the sealing scrim tape to the walls and shower tray, do you over lap it and then trim it back to the dept of a tile? Here is a link to the bit of the video i mean. Cheers ☺

Thanks for watching, glad your learning from my day to day work🙌🏼🙌🏼
hi m8 looking great as is the bathroom lol do you ever worry if a big lad steps on the shower tray it may crack if its not packed underneath
No “ big lads” live there so ya safe
It’s fully bedded down to the board it’s sat on.
People don’t realise that these trays also come with 4 legs that can be attached, making them only fitted to the floor on 4 corners and they are still fine… I’ve used them for years and years fitted this way and never had a problem😉
I fit every tray with a silicone or grab type adhesive providing that the sub floor is sound and solid. Never had any issues in over 20 years. If 6 plastic legs can support it with the remainder being a massive void you should not have any problems. Let’s face it, if the tray cracks all the manufacturers will do is give you a new tray at best. They are never in the wrong and will pass it off as an installation issue regardless how you fitted it. On a safety issue if some big lad did crack it at least on silicone he doesn’t plunge through into a void breaking his ankle and possibly bleed out on the jagged edges lol.
All these people moaning about how Mark does something, are you guys saying you do everything right and to the book every time? Or do you have all the time to shit talk because nobody wants your plumbing service?
