One point I would like to mention about plugin installation from the perspective of a Mac user there are two places plugins can be installed which can be confusing at first. One is in the user's Library folder which makes plugins installed there accessible only to that user, the other is the system Library folder which makes plugins installed there available to all users of the system if more than one user have accounts on that Mac. Many of the plugins that have installers place them in the system Library folder. There is quite a bit more to plugin installation and getting GarageBand to find them but there are videos covering this. When I say Library above the actual Folder is Components inside the folder Plug-ins inside the folder Audio inside the folder Library. Also note that for GarageBand you need the AU version of plugins. The other main type, VST, is for Logic Pro and other DAWs that support those.
I have all my plug-in in that comp folder but garage band can only find them some of them. I tried restarting and reinstalling I’ve got the licences active and everything. Any ideas? Where are these videos to get GarageBand to find plugins? Many thanks for any help. I have an m1 Mac for context. Tried to boot using Rosetta and even that didn’t work.
Thank you so much, Collin for your channel! There is so much useful information here. It seemed to me before that it was impossible to take Garageband seriously, that it was just a toy for entertainment with a plastic sound. But you open my eyes to the possibilities of this free program! It is very important for me, because recording in pro studios is expensive, and such giants as Cubase, Logic, Pro Tools are also not cheap and require the purchase of plug-ins. You give hope!
One thing that's handy is that all plugins one installs for GarageBand are also usable in Logic Pro if one decides to get it for it's huge range of additional features. I have Logic Pro but I still use mostly GarageBand because I don't have the big studio/pro DAWs background to fully understand yet the use of buses, subgroups and side-chains etc. to get true value out of it. When it comes to learning curves GarageBand is a hill and Logic Pro is a mountain. Thankfully everything one learns in GarageBand is useful in Logic Pro.
Thank you for these videos. I use GB to record guitars, bass, keys at home and then send to a studio where I finish with vocals, mix etc. Saves a lot of studio time ($$). With your series though I’ll try my hand at finishing everything at home. But I do like the quiet of the studio for vocals.
Thank you for these tutorials they are very helpful... I'm a guitarist and play mostly metal but i am new to recording I've only been doing it for a few months but very rarely as i don't have much time.... i am a little ashamed to admit that i struggle with understanding compression and what it does and how i should use it... I've tried and i always mess it up 😅
Is there a plugin that allows you to view the volume controls as a mixing console, as Logic Pro allows? Thank you for all the valuable content you provide in each video. All the best for you!
Love your videos, very informative! Thank you :) I have a question for you, I downloaded MVMeter2 and it looks different from your videos, I can't find a way to make it look like your videos (I want to see the needles) instead I have just a list like menu. Any suggestions?
Yeah - i downloaded the plugins but it doesnt show graphic window - they all look like the stock window I cant see meters or knobs ??? What gives I shut down my computer Deleted & reinstalled GarageBand
Hey! It sounds like you already have it on if you're seeing the mvmeter plugin showing up (mentioned in your last comment), but it sounds like you need to change the setting I show in this video for it to show up properly... ruclips.net/video/WX3An_dhG54/видео.html
Just above the meter display in the middle is a drop-down menu initially showing Init at the bottom of which is Factory with an arrow next to it. Go there for the presets.
@@johnvender just tried with LogicPro..same thing, no presets. I downloaded it diredcly from website fiew times and nothing. VU meter works ok, it is just the presets are not there..
@@TheRezus35 I think I may have worked out why you are not seeing the presets. The drop-down menu at the top next to the blue "power on/off" button does exactly what you describe here. There is a second drop down menu below it to the right of the reference level and delay settings which has left and right arrows to the right of it. That's what I need to use to get to the presets. One can also cycle through the presets using the left and right buttons to the right of that drop-down menu.
Does anyone else find it weird that all these youtube "experts" somehow can't even have a dialed dialogue track in their videos? Its boomy, its muffled, it has a low-mid hump and lacks any sort of high pass; whatever it is it doesn't inspire confidence that they know what they are talking about.

🤣Very uninspiring is a nice choice of words Colin, you need to get a job in the UN diplomacy dept.

Try the different options when you open it again select peak level I think it is called.
Great!!
my mv meter2 only shows up as a square of on off / toggles. no meter like described HELP!
Can you make it clear that these plug ins are for the Mac and Windows versions of GarageBand, NOT iOS?
Hello Collin - can the Plugins be downloaded to the iPad version of GB too?

Unlike stated in your free five plugin analog obsession is requiring a paid subscription three tiers before getting free plugin.
I just downloaded them by clicking the links above.
Good info but talks too fast to follow along for a beginner.

No, respectfully. These comments are both sweeping and overgeneralized. They also appear inaccurate. But thanks for making us think!
