West Coast are working on getting Warner 12 months from now, so they’ve done ok. Bulldogs are working on getting Petracca 12 months from now, so freeing up some cap space is part of the plan too. Think on it.
Going to the Dogs wouldn't do much for "Brand Petracca" but how much money will Collingwood have when Pendlebury, Sidebottom, Howe and Tom Mitchell retire at the end of 2025? Everyone wants to play for Collingwood
I think the Hawks are another one that is hard to judge until next season is over. With no guarantees that improvement is going to be linear and now next year's draft picks being tied to Carlton's performance this trade period could be total genius or just average. If Carlton's late season 2024 form continues through to 25 it could be brilliant. But if it goes the other way and Carlton rebound and the Hawks slide then the price they paid starts to look a bit big.
Yeah you're right - although unless the slide is significant either way, holding those picks is still better than not! I read WC requested Hawks picks over the Blues? Is that true?
@@TrueFootyAFL I don't know if that is true, I am glad the Hawks are backing themselves if it is, but I might have been more comfortable if they had given one of each, Carlton's first and Hawthorns second or the other way.
Tigers have done a great job. People are concerned about the senior players leaving. We won 2 games with all those guys playing most weeks, we may as well clean out and start over. Also they are all Flankers which are very replaceable We know we are going to be shit but at least we'll have talent now. We finished as the wooden spooner with not a single rising star last year, that is bleak. Also this isnt like the expansion teams cos we still have may more senior experience than those teams did. We have Taranto, Hopper, Short, Lynch, Prestia, Vlastuin, Balta, Broad, Nank etc. Who have all played together for years, where as expansion team senior guys never played together.
not tryna be biased but i want to say carltons trade period is in the smashed it category, when u consider how we just haggled our way to a pick 3 from nothing and only lost matt owies and kennedy, u also have to look at our age and depth. in terms of young players for the future of the club we are stacked. so yes we offloaded some age and experience but in reality our age and depth is still really quite up there, plus young guns from 21, 22, 23 and 24, working there way nicely into the side.
Exactly. Nothing against Jesse but he is probably a bit biased here as an Eagles fan. Owies was delisted anyways. And the departure of these two gives the club breathing space with regards to the salary cap. Lalor, FOS or Draper will add a hell lot from game 1. Talent is enormous, and on top of that a Lalor/Draper/FOS and the twins.
I get the feeling Carlton is going to trade out a massive name next season to get into next years draft. We have two massive signings to secure next year (Walsh & TDK) so for Cap reasons- I get the feeling they will bite the bullet and offer up a huge name.
Ya gotta be kidding right?! Kennedy is worth more than 38 and out all your small forwards who keep getting injured you traded the only one who didn't get injured all season!
West Coast have lost all leverage in this years draft to get some much needed high end talent into the club. They have payed a high price for Liam Baler. To not have a top 2 first round picks and Liam Baler for picks 3 and 26 will probably haunt them in years to come if Reid leaves after 3 years which is looking more likely.
No one can judge who won or lost as it's all hypothetical. For my team, Richmond, it had to do exactly what they had to do. If none of those players left, we would be mid table next year with a good run with injuries. Being in pergotory is the worst place to be. I believe Richmond will take all 8 of those picks into this strong draft as if you throw enough darts at a draft board, you're going to hit a few bull's-eyes
the richmond ranking relays heavily on the players that improved heavily in 2024 not improving further in 2025 however the likes of hugo ralphsmith josh gibcus ect will help from being absolute rock bottom, richmond still 3-4 years away from being competitive OfCourse
Yeah.Port had picks 36 and 54 before trade period so to get Lukious and Richards in plus picks 13 29 and 36 and 50 isn't that bad all things considering. On Atkins Port came bottom in the SANFL and desperately need some experience and leadership and both the crows and power have restrictions on players they can get outside their AFL lists to play for them...alot of players make a list and never play an AFL game so think Port just grabbed Atkins mainly to help the SANFL side and if need be through injury play in the AFL...its the only logical explanation as he is clearly not even close to best 23
I suspect Gold Coast pushed hard on Port taking Atkens' $400 - 450K last year of contract off their hands as a condition for releasing Lukosious for a single first round pick.
With the depth of better wing/flank options Port still has on it's list, it's hard to see Port having so much injury trouble that they need to bring Atkins into the AFL 23.

He will definitely improve their list and they didn't pay through the nose for him but he is not overly consistent and coming off an ACL can potentially take an edge off his biggest asset, his pace. Geelong don't make many mistakes though. Time will tell.
I agree baily is a solid b grade player! He is no dangerfield replacment that he seems to be! Then you have cameron there absolute match winning champion who are they going to replace him via trade with? Take dangerfield and cameron out were do you think they finish at end of seaaon? Id say 12th! Thats just 2 of there 6 stars well over 30! In the history of australian rules footy not 1 single club has stayed on top forever! There is 2 reasons cats are were there at! 1. The home ground advantage that no other vic club has and 2. There hanging onto there last decade champions that if you take out right now for next season they are bottom 6! And they seem to believe that they can just trade to replace them! It wont happen! As long as cameron and danger are fit and the other 4 or so aged srars they will be in top 8 but in a few years time its all over! And cats deep down no this but are trying to grab 1 more cup while those players are still there! But this cats era is only a few years from ending! And put pies in that group! Aged stars and trying to grab one more cup before it age hits them all!!

Was averaging 30 disposals a game as a mid, got played out of position and then fell out of form. Back in the Cats to get the best out of blokes, theyve turned around guys like Bowes and Bruhn from being fringe to best 22 players, Dempsey was a rookie draft kid and ended up winning Rising Star, Lawson Humphries was almost dead last in the Draft and had he played the whole year would have been close to the best Rookie in 2024, unbelievable pickup. Yeah well said mate. My intention is never to talk Tigers fans out of their optimism - I am keen to see how they attack this draft for sure.
As a Geelong supporter I can tell you one of the things that Geelong does is to create an environment for their players to thrive (Work lifestyle as Bailey Smith said) and when that is done the player tends to become even better.
Cameron has his own farm now (he grew up at Dartmoor) and he has gone to another level since.
Just like Mannah we are looking at Henderson who was BOG for Werribee in their grand final win this year so we can still get quality late.
Cats always know how to recruit without high draft picks. Humphries was pick 63!
@@LomuHabana exactly. We always have a plan. I bet West Coast and Fremantle are itching to get Humphries back lol.
But like tim kelly they never thrive as much after they leave Geelong.
@@badpsychosis Absolutely. That’s what differentiates you from the rest, that’s why you make the prelim 70% of the time. There is always a clear plan and a positive culture/environment which makes players thrive. Very admirable, Cats fan or not.
@@LomuHabana Which begs the Qn: Why didn't West Coast pick him up?? It's their backyard, right?!

Because Richmond has one of the best draft hands of the decade
Geelong basically just got given Bailey smith
Fremantle are now premiership contender
Hawthorne have one of the best defensive lines in the afl
Gold Coast got great players and have a great future ahead of them
Whereas crows just got 1 great to player but 2 great players
Yep, Barrass has gone from a 29 year old who never plays a full season to a star fullback of the competition that we Hawks fans could not do without.
Goooo Hawks!!!!
Just like Liam Baker is no longer a small utility with no hurt factor, he’s an a grader again woo!
You have to manage certain players! Tom will be rested a few times every season he playes! Against weaker teams you rest players cats have been doing it for years and thats why they have 6 of there very best well over 30 years of age that get rested through the year! We hawks will get 4 solid years from barra and 2 cups! Hawks are not stupid in the last 13 years we have won 3 cups same as tigers! And there ready for another dynasty! 🤎💛💪🏆🏆🏆🏆 next 10 years! See if im wrong!
@@glennwalker2996 It is hard to criticise the Hawks recruiting after last year's inclusions. D'Ambrosio, Ginnivan, Meek and Chol were all success stories. The difference is that we have paid a decent price for Barrass. He definitely fills a gap though, there is genuine depth across every line now. There will be very good players playing regular footy for Box Hill.

West Coast are working on getting Warner 12 months from now, so they’ve done ok. Bulldogs are working on getting Petracca 12 months from now, so freeing up some cap space is part of the plan too. Think on it.
But if Warner stays at Sydney or signs with Fremantle, you gave up a lot for nothing.
Petracca to the Dogs would be wild!
Going to the Dogs wouldn't do much for "Brand Petracca" but how much money will Collingwood have when Pendlebury, Sidebottom, Howe and Tom Mitchell retire at the end of 2025? Everyone wants to play for Collingwood
Port were told by GC of they want pick 29 they have to take Atkins as a salary dump by GC
Also they are all Flankers which are very replaceable
We know we are going to be shit but at least we'll have talent now.
I thought West coast should have signed matt Kennedy as well as owies for pick 3
Didn't want to leave Victoria sadly!
not tryna be biased but i want to say carltons trade period is in the smashed it category, when u consider how we just haggled our way to a pick 3 from nothing and only lost matt owies and kennedy, u also have to look at our age and depth. in terms of young players for the future of the club we are stacked. so yes we offloaded some age and experience but in reality our age and depth is still really quite up there, plus young guns from 21, 22, 23 and 24, working there way nicely into the side.
@@liamireland1974 Whenever Cats played the Blues, Owies always hurt us. Carlton will need to find that 30 goal per year small forward to replace him.
@@naomigulic5753TDK's coming over. 😺😺
God willing pick 4 is high enough to land Sid Draper.
I support carlton hoped we would take 12 and 14 to draft.
Port power didn’t do as well a I would have liked I would have hoped for more for Dan houston
the richmond ranking relays heavily on the players that improved heavily in 2024 not improving further in 2025 however the likes of hugo ralphsmith josh gibcus ect will help from being absolute rock bottom, richmond still 3-4 years away from being competitive OfCourse
Hawthorn traded themselves out of this year and next year's drafts, though.
I’d swap Adelaide with Fremantle
Big up Jesse Carn the eagles
Big up? You lost pick 3 for 2 players you guys could have gotten for free 😂😂😂. It has to be worse then the Kelly trade 😂
Richmond will win another premiership before WC do, you can take it to the bank.
@@SalvatoreSpade Saying Big up to Jesse. Eagles had a horrible trade period imo giving up pick 3. Regardless I'll back my team and think the worst is behind
@@georgepappas4628 eagles are at least 10 years away from another flag. They may make finals in 5 years but they won't win the flag. The eagles still have a long way to go
@@georgepappas4628 Mate Richmond will win the next 4 spoons but maybe after that they might.
I personally wouldn't put Geelong in the top bracket. But I am not a huge Bailey Smith fan.
Lukosius for future first is bad.
Depends on how confident you are in your teams form and Lukosius form - if Port finish 3rd-4th next year and Lukosios kicks 45 goals, it’s a pretty good move - anything less than that and yeh it’s pretty bad.
BOLTON!!!!!!
richmond basically have to hope they get sheezel, nick daicos and harley reid calibre players to make there trade period work
They may very well swap picks for Nth Melb to get pick 2. If you have picks 1,2 and 6 in a very strong draft, it’s actually pretty hard to stuff up.
Unless they have to trade 6 in the deal for 2
Not gws that’s for sure

Stop calling the lesser players or younger players STEAK KNIVES have a bit of respect for players after all they give you something to do with your channel !
Smith overrated imo.
Now imagine what they can do with Smith getting him focused, playing good footy in front of a fanatical Cats fanbase. They guy is gonna be a mainstay in Cats midfield next to Holmes for the next decade.
