First time I went to Wigan this was playing and the floor was packed solid. No room for splits or drop backs. Just 1000s of people all in one groove.. Looked amazing..
Sorry but I don’t believe you... doubt any soul could simply just "walk" to this. I wish you both all the happiness to keep dancing through life together.
I missed this era and grew up in the 90:s rave scene! But respect the northern soul scene massively.. I'm sure without northern soul music would be very different nowadays
We can always bring it back d b....I were a bit too young myself when it was around the first time . There must be loads of songs out there over the last 25-35 years that have soul in them that haven't been touched yet.
yeah it definitely promoted gatherings music n dance to a certain style of music hence rave scene i went thru it all 55 ere sadly its all stopped today diferent world we live in now making other things come first before music sadly
The beat of loafers, brogues ( leather soles ) and powder on the floor,,,,,,,,,,,,still makes me have a massive big smile 😀. it all started for me in Rochdale town hall chambers with Motown and then this addictive super beat. Very different from the norm at Greenhill school Christmas dances. It’s the only reason I joined Spotify at the age of 66 haha. My records are in the loft. But a lot of the gud uns are now on my iPhone and keep me going when working abroad and certain places are playing absolute unadulterated garbage 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Well northern soul!! a man from blues rock and roll all my life. Married a lass from the heart of Manchester and living in Wiltshire in the south west. You guys had found a few records with a certain beat and went for it, there ya go, northern soul. Going to bring her back to you guys and put a gert big smile on her face, see you soon
"Do I love you" by Frank Wilson. As well as being a fantastic song it is the most expensive single ever sold at auction. I think about £28,000, so have a good look through that record collection! Only a tiny number ever pressed.
@Nick Garswood ...……….According to official accounts, 250 demo 45s of the song were pressed by Tamla-Motown and scheduled for release on 23 December 1965. However, Frank Wilson was 'persuaded' that he should focus on his role as a producer and songwriter and agreed to have them destroyed. [in truth, this decision was probably taken by Motown's owner Berry Gordy, who disliked Wilson's vocals and in any case, did his utmost to prevent his producers from having successful recording careers. This would also explain why Tamla-Motown's leading team of producers - Holland-Dozier-Holland - chose to leave the T-M stable]. Despite this, it was initially claimed that at least two, and maybe as many as five copies of the record survived. Ironically, one copy was rumoured to be owned by Berry Gordy himself! However these theories have now largely been disproved by more reliable sources - such as John Manship - who have established that there are only two copies still in existence. [according to Manship's own research - one disc which was actually played at Wigan casino and other Northern Soul venues in the mid-70's had originally been stored in a Motown archive in Los Angeles. "It was borrowed, but never put back, and found its way to England''. Whatever the case, and due to the record's scarcity it remains one of the most collectable 45 discs [of any genre] ever produced. As proof of the record's desirability, Kenny Burrell, a DJ and record collector, bought the only other known copy for a then-record price of £15,000 in 1997. According to Mr Burrell, it had been found in Detroit [the home of Motown] by a man who obtained it from workers at the pressing plant that pressed all of Tamla-Motown's records. Interestingly, several years after buying it, Mr Burrell had Frank Wilson autograph the record - ''To Kenny''. Then in May 2009, Kenny Burrell sold his copy for £25,742 to an 'anonymous buyer' - the sale being handled by John Manship, who apparently received over 70 bids. As a post-script - the record was officially released in the UK first in 1979 on the Tamla-Motown label, and again in 2004 with a version of the same song by Chris Clark on the B-side. Frank Wilson was later acclaimed as 'discovering' the Jackson Five [including Michael Jackson].
