I didn't know what to expect but wow was I blown away by this incredible concert. The BBC Concert Orchestra and 5 awesome vocalists delivered a truly authentic Northern Soul experience. I had tears in my eyes imagining the original artists, writers, arrangers producers and session players having the opportunity to listen to this 2023 full blown orchestral interpretation of their work in the Royal Albert Hall of all places. The singers were note perfect and the arrangements retained the integrity of the original production of the recordings but amped up x1000. One of the best TV concerts I've watched for a long time.

I'm no expert on Northern Soul so didn't know what to expect, best thing I've seen on telly for ages, loved every minute of it !

Brilliant to hear Northern Soul with a full orchestra backing! Great music, could listen for hours, gets everyone dancing, all ages! Loved it!

How much I envy you, to be a part of something that good and to witness six amazing singers. I have just watched it again on the BBC iplayer. The last time I was at the Albert Hall was to see joolsholland and his rhythm and blues orchestra, amazing venue.
@@ianblackwell8874 I'm so happy to have attended this. I'm not from the UK so I obviously can't visit the country as much as I'd want to, but I was at the right place at the right time. I'm 21 too and there's no northern soul club in my area so that's the closest I could get from the real stuff. I truly feel blessed

Absolutely brilliant found this to watch whilst looking through channels trying to find something to watch , this was the best I ve seen on t v in years , the music and singers fantastic , loved the bloke in brown suit , but they all had great voices , thankyou bbc ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Cant believe how they put these Northern Soul classics over, so brings back my youth.
I love Northern Soul and amazing to see an old friend Pete Callard playing lead guitar. Had to send him a screenshot to confirm it was him. It was and he said it was a fab concert to do ❤ full show on bbc iplayer he added.
The drummer is pushing the beat brilliantly.
Beyond brilliant. It shows the Proms are all about music.

Never thought I'd find myself saying this -THANK-YOU BBC. This was the best Saturday night entertainment I've seen in years. The energy. The quality. The atmosphere. All brilliant! and worth every penny of the licence fee just to be a part of it. So glad it wasn't tucked away on BBC4. I realise it can probably be seen again via BBC I player, but why not show it again on BBC1, maybe between Christmas and the new year? I'm sure it would get a big audience. Come on schedulers - be brave!

I used to sing it when visiting my late mother in the nursing home. She had cancer and dementia but music seemed to make her smile and ‘come alive in a funny sort of way’

When I first heard this song it was on a commercial then I pulled the song up on RUclips and saw it was by Frank Wilson. The song sounded like something Motown would put out but it was just Frank sitting at his piano with a tape of the orchestra playing. I don't know how I'd never heard it before that commercial. Great song.

This has been such a very slow burner for me but now I regard it as one of the best efforts in a truly amazing, magical evening.
Like so many Ive returned so many times to all the individual performances without tiring of things or feeling I"d imagined that a concert could be this good.

Completely true. I lived through the Northern Soul era, and danced pretty well. But when I play the music to my kids (30s) they just don't get it at first. So I play it again, and again. Finally they LOVE it!

Someone certainly put a lot of time and trouble into writing out these arrangements - very accurate reproductions of the original recordings. Plus, the musicians playing and singing it are brilliant.

Remember dancing to this in Top Rank back in the early seventies! How time flies. So glad nearly everything from the '70s is back in fashion again. Great Times.
