I heard the album Next... when it came out in 73 and was mesmerised. That and The Impossible Dream still remain favourites all these years later. Such a shame we lost Alex so long ago.

SAHB had everything, musically and visually interesting, entertaining and enjoyable, great talent and lyrical content and they fucken rocked. Nothing comes close to this these days even though there are many great bands around.
I’ve been nonstop listening to this band since I found them days ago. The best band ever and Alex is a genius but can’t we please recognize the brilliance of Zal? Omg, I have decades of catching up! TY for this gem!
Totally! One of the most gifted - and the most underrated - guitarists in rock. Hope he knows how much he, and Alex and the rest of SAHB - meant to a lot of us.
I've had a love affair with this band all my life (now 66). The Hot City Symphony just gets better and better as I age. One of the best live bands I've ever seen
The first gig I ever went to - on this tour, in this year, at Nottingham University. The profound effect it had on me remains to this very day. Thanks for the memories, boys. Technically the first live band I ever saw were called Strider - the support band on this gig. I went out the next morning and bought their album, too. That's how it worked back then.
First time I saw them even only on tv back in '76 I was struck with admiration , they were a breed apart way ahead of the time and entertaining , love them ever since !
In my teenage years, I'd party on Friday and Saturday nights, but always wanted to get home in time for the late-night showing of In Concert. I saw SAHB on that show, and had no clue about them (nor what to make of them) other than those few tunes - and no internet existed to help me figure it out. It's fun to look back 50 years and see them now. What a crew!
First time seeing or even hearing of this band, SO GOOD!! Right around the time of other great theatrical " art rock" bands. Gabriel and Genesis, Bowie, T Rex, and The Kinks during the RCA years. They all had wild costumes and makeup to go along with amazing musicianship!
Wow! This is the In Concert that introduced me to SAHB! I haven’t seen it since that night in 1974 when me and my older brother stayed up late to watch it. We were both blown away as we had never seen anything like them. Not long after that I left home for the Navy and was sent to my first duty station on Guam. There, I went to the on base Exchange store, lo and behold, there was their Live album. I was like “No freakin’ way!” I quickly bought it and wore it out. I now have it on CD! Thank you for putting it on YT for me to relive that moment!
Same here. I watched this, was blown away and the next day I went out and found a copy of 'Next'. Couldn't wait 'til they came to town. Saw them the first time at the Whisky (probably in '75). Wow! What a show! They had bagpipe players and some scantily clad women on stage with the band but I couldn't take my eyes off of Cleminson. Then saw them three nights at the Roxy out of a five night run. (One of my photos I shot at the Roxy is in the SAHB book, even though the writer never sent me a copy. Nice guy) Last time was at the Santa Monica Civic. They opened for Stix. Ten minutes or so into their show, people were still screaming for SAHB to return. Great band.
I said it and I'll say it again...Zal is the pioneer Patron of the Baseball Furies. I like how the Band members constitutionalize their own table persona!!!
Saw them mid 70s Slough Assembly Rooms. When you could see great bands playing small venues without having to take out a mortgage for a ticket. One of the great nights of my youth. Can still smell the stale beer wafting up from the worn parquet flooring.
Saw them live a few times and they were one of my favourite live bands. I always looked forward to a new labum coming out too cos I knew it was going to be brilliant. They always told such great stories through songs.

Oh my ! Sensational. I miss Alex & is SAHB to this day more than I miss my left arm lost in a bike accident 81. No other could Rock it like Alex. RIP my man 😢
Just read an old interview with my man Robert Smith. He said when he was 14 he was obsessed with Alex Harvey so I had to check him out. As an American I had no idea what he was like. Uh, hes different. I can see where Robert got his vaudevillian flourishes from. Pretty fascinating.
Saw SAHB twice at Victoria Theatre in London. Best gigs I have ever seen. Came out with my ears ringing and my heart singing, it was superb. We all knew Alex would die young, idols like that always do.
ADORO ESSA BANDA E SOU ROQUEIRO PACAS. MAS ESTES SÃO A MISTURA PERFEITA E BEM PECULIARES. TEATRAL, DIFERENTE E DE BOM GOSTO. O VOCAL É FANTÁSTICO, COM IDENTIDADE MESMO. SÃO TODOS ASTROS MUSICAIS.
Saw them when Davie Bachelor was their singer when they were called Tear Gas. Davie stepped aside to manage them when Alex joined. Even before Alex joined they were great when they played the local dance halls. First heard them 1969 playing rockers from The Beatle's White Album that were noted perfect. Alex brought the theatrical element which he named The Sensational Alex Harvey Band.
Wow, just seen this, I was there. Seems they cut River of Love out of the broadcast. SAHB, says it all. This was one of the series of shows at the Rainbow recorded from American TV - tickets were free from Capital Radio. Glory days of music
Saw them at croydon fairfield hall early seventies, brilliant gig, bought all the albums after that and followed them, fabulous show, Zal Clemson so underrated
It's 1974 and there are at least a few people in that audience starting to trip and questioning if a SAHB concert was really the best place to drop acid.
Does anyone know if a TV/video recording of a full SAHB concert exists, even if not available here on RUclips? Was one ever made? Would love to see that!
Tracklist:
1. Vambo 01:34
2. Sergeant Fury 07:17

Not entirely true, however I agree, most music anymore is mass produced for the masses...

I always thought he was a bit of a clown
Guthrie Govan rates him highly.
