But it's being pressed down by India. A few years back, when there was a clash between Chinese and Indian armies in a disputed area between Bhutan and China. Chinese ask Indians "What are you doing here?" Chinese asked Bhutanese:"Did you invite them into your country?" Bhutanese didn't answer and say nothing. They were too afraid of Indians. The Indians run all over their country as though it's their own. If I were the Bhutanese, I would play them off each other and get the most benefits. Just like India being friends with Russia and the US, and buying Russian oil at a great discount and sell it at high profit to the Europeans.

They allowed Tibet the authority to govern themselves, but make no mistake, sovereignty was still Chinas. Thats the difference between sovereignty and "control".
And once the last Chinese Dynasty came to an end, there was an imperial edict (what we call treaty nowadays) that stated that sovereignty over Tibet was to be handed over to the next "China". This is just another diplomatic way of saying India did not land on Moon's South Pole. If India had landed on on Moon's South Pole, NASA would have simply said that "The Chandrayaan-3 landing site is located at the Moon’s South Pole" instead of "The Chandrayaan-3 landing site is located about 600 KILOMETERS FROM the Moon’s South Pole.
    2) Dr Ouyang Ziyuan, lauded as the father of China’s lunar exploration programme, told the Chinese-language Science Times newspaper that the Chandrayaan-3 landing site, at 69 degrees south latitude, was nowhere close to the pole, defined as between 88.5 and 90 degrees.

Noooo! Bhutan is one of the sanest countries, if not THE sanest country in the world. Or at least it was under the late King, I read several years ago. He did some great things, my favourite being that he amended the Constitution so that a sizeable percentage of the country would never be developed at all for ANY human interests, profit, etc. Still a ways to go socially, especially for women, but he was thoughtfully leading the country forward and people's lives were improved. I don't know how the conversion from monarchy to democracy he instituted is going.... I'll have to update my reading. But the idea that China is grabbing land, and sending settlers there!!! How long before they start mining or whatever in Bhutan's constitutionally protected wild zones??
Forgive me, I am so sick of the already most powerful nations of the world always picking on, bullying smaller ones just to get more, always more...

In 1975, Sikkim was annexed by India. Bhutan, as a neighboring country, is not stupid. The Bhutan are a country established by Tibetans after migration. Bhutan and Tibet have the same culture and ethnicity. Bhutan is very different from India, both in culture and ethnicity. Bhutan's diplomacy and military are controlled by India. The British Empire left Bhutan, but Bhutan welcomed the Indians who have no bottom line. The key is that the per capita GDP of Tibet is four or five times that of India. As a result, Indians are thinking about the land of Tibet every day and say that they want to liberate Tibet. In the eyes of other countries, it is similar to North Korea saying that it wants to rescue Americans.

We cannot talk about Bhutan without talking about Sikkim. Like Bhutan, Sikkim was an independent Himalayan Buddhist kingdom many hundreds of years old and a neighbor of China. Sikkim was briefly overrun by the Nepalese Gorkhas during the 18th century. The Sikkim king fled to China and asked for help. The then Qianlong emperor dispatched an expedition force to Sikkim and expelled the Gorkhas and restored Sikkim's sovereignty and independence. Sikkim was left unmolested for the rest of its history until it was gobbled up by the artificial country India in 1975. Chinese of older generations were taught that Sikkim was one of China's neighbors. Even student in Taiwan (Republic of China) were taught Sikkim was one of China's neighbors until a couple of decades ago. Bhutan is very similar to Sikkim in terms of ethnicity, language, religion and culture and history, only that it is bigger. Bhutan is in a precarious situation right now because it is the next low hanging fruit in India's expansionism and is currently militarily occupied by India. The reason I wrote this here is to educate the people in the world what is going on in that part of the world and stop indulging India, a country that is up to no good.

@@TAUNDER. Provide safety for what? Bhutan is a neighbor of China for many hundreds of years before the artificial country India even existed. Who was providing safety for Bhutan then? I am not going to mince words. The reason Bhutan is occupied by India militarily is because India has territorial design on Bhutan and the first step to gobble up Bhutan is to totally control it. This is the reason India is so allergic for Bhutan having diplomatic countries with most countries. Please do not lie. India is not providing billions of dollars aid to Bhutan. India debt trapped Bhutan for its infrastructure projects. I read from a Bhutanese India's interest rate to Bhutan is 10%, two and a half times the rate of international norm.

Stopping & physically phusing Chinese troop & construction worker out of the border as define by Bhutan & India.. though chinese did construct road upto their territory.. had US pushed PLAN & PLARF out of SCS.. CCP won't dare to do this.. anyways the way India is constructing road, bridges & military infra along LAC is good for power dynamics.. India recently move two offensive corps toward china beside defensive corps already takling PLA & giving golgappas to CCP's goons

Bhutan has treaties with India. Yes, India has good control over it and Bhutan should have its sovereignty to decide its international relations. However, being on the Indian side means that India pushes them to have their defined territories by international boundaries respected. China has a bunch of border issues with everyone else and definitely does not resolve them diplomatically, but by force as we have seen recently. Bhutan will be able to do nothing to prevent Chinese military from encroaching on their territory.
