No organization in the world does it like the Canadiens. If only Saku could have got himself a Stanley cup ring, his number would be up there with the rest of the greats. Thanks Saku
Not with the hot mess of canadiens rosters he was working with lol. Best on best tournaments he’s over a point per game. Hope one day11 will be up there. That said I’m very happy gally wore it next , represents like a boss!
I can't even imagine how big of an person he is for people of Montreal, but I surely know how great influence he is for people of Finland. I was just a child when he was part of the first gold medal team Finland in World Championship of hockey. He doesn't brag about himself but he surely could. What a great player, husband, dad and influence to the world of hockey. Thank you Saku!
In Finland we have this saying: "torilla tavataan" it literally means that "we'll meet in the market square" which derives from our winning ice hockey gold couple times and when it has happened the whole country just goes nuts. Everyone just goes in their hometowns market square and hugs each other, hug the statues and swim naked in the fountains. And the next day is okey to be hangover in your workplace because it was probably your boss that you swam with. Nowadays we use it as a sarcarcastic mention for any foreigner to have noticed us in internet or anywhere. As a fellow Finn to Koivu, I can say that Saku is holding back his emotions so much in a way that I really can relate to.
When people say oh he got cheers because of cancer. He was captain for a decade pretty much and stood by the team always. One of the most humble people ever. A team that really never had a chance to win the cup. Canadiens were spoiled back in the day with there teams. It's not always about winning, it's about dedication and Saku was that!
He got cheers because after his cancer he raised funds and donated to buy a PET scanner for Montreal which the PQ didn't want to pay for, and literally saved dozens of lives with it. He got cheers because after he got cancer he lead the team to a playoff spot and lead the team in beating their archival and heavily favored Bruins, while still being bald as a cue ball from chemo. It wasn't the cancer, the cancer just allowed him to be seen for the man he is. That's one hell of a legacy.
I can see saku getting his jersey retired by both teams in times even though he never won a cup like Karyia he didn’t need it. He played for the love of the game, that’s something we don’t see a lot of these days. Thank you for you’re hard work and passion you brought to my Ducks during your time with us. Canadians are my 2nd team next to my Ducks. You guys are the best fans in the world no debate, I went to a game in 2016 and it was the most amazing experience of my life, well next to the Paul karyia jersey retirement. I’ve never seen so many jerseys in one arena, fans were so welcoming and friendly.
The greatest retirements of all. Magnifique!!! No need for a cup. Greatest Habs Captain of all times. And a great person. Kind and honorous like all Finnish I have ever met.
Simple the best and most humble hockey player! Saku Koivu on paras! They didn't allowed to speak him the Montreal Cans a huge funs! So great to see this. Big respect
@@gifu5724 shut the f****** up. He came back from something that would kill most people and he played as well as any player has ever played in Montreal. The Cup is not everything anyway and what happened during that time was not his fault if you want to blame anybody you better blame the front office.
Why hasn't Saku Koivu's jersey #11 been put up on the roof of the Center Bell of the Montreal Canadiens hall? Weird? Can someone tell me the reason? Montreal Canadiens longtime former Captain K? 🤔
I was there that night. It was something to remember. And now his son Aatos will be joining...Awesome!

He wasnt the best canadien captain. But he was the last great one.
Can we retire number 11 already!!!! Gallagher go back to 73.. sorry but a legend has worn this
Saku... Quel homme, quel gentleman.. quel capitaine.. il n’a jamais eu les ailiers ou l’équipe pour l’épauler... Cet homme est un héro pour moi
I'm blessed to be related to him, not by blood, but still. Such an awesome and good human being. Thank you Saku.
what sort of weird subtle flex was that?
A great player and a fighter. A true sportsman
😍❤️😪 m42 tuli pieni kyynel. Niin hienosti fanit ottivat vastaan. Samoin ensimmäinen peli sairauden jälkeen.
Merci saku pour tout ce que tu as fait pour les canadiens
The greatest sports organization in the world. !! Montreal Canadiens !! 🥅🏒🏆👍
My favourite player of all time.
Simple the best and most humble hockey player! Saku Koivu on paras! They didn't allowed to speak him the Montreal Cans a huge funs! So great to see this. Big respect

Saku is the hulk hogan of hockey...just listen to the ovation
I remember being there during the game, it was unbelievable. Such a great experience.
Very emotional final speech from probably the best Finnish player of all times.
I wish the You a great retirement.
Regs from Sweden/Kent

That is also saku koivus city. I met him once and spoke to him. And i have only word. RESPECT.👏👏👏
Godammit I choked up again it's that last line "je t'aime pour toujours Montreal merci beaucoup"
Can't believe the Habs drafted his son. Love that we are bringing the Koivu name back to Montreal.
What a class act and good guy amazing
Miss this guy!!
3:23.."Merci psycho🙈" love you Saku you will be missed
Here in 2024, can't wait for the Habs to draft his son Aatos in June!!!!! Tij Iginla too....talk about leadership
Greatest player!
C'était mon joueur préféré, j'étais vraiment déçu quand il a été échangé. Respect Saku.
Did not win the cup for montreal but still the best captain they ever had.
Classic! Now do one for Plecki please!!
Finnish means "humble" truly
It's a fucking shame they didn't retire his number
Un Capitaine. Un vrai.
I´m just wondering is TPS (Saku´s youth team) making this kind of ceremony to him in here Finland. :)
If he played for any ANY other franchise his shirt would up the rosters...
Please retire his number
Gally wears it now which I think is ok
He won literally NOTHING in Montreal, please tell me why? Only reason is the he was captain of one of the worst teams in NHL. ;D
We will one day;-)
