From his parent definitely being in a great economic situation despite Jalens success and their values of working hard. Obviously as well raising him in a two parent household, sending him to college and Villanova at that which is an academic centered institution first and foremost and where he stayed until graduation. Playing it safe. If he tore his ACL in thibbs system (highly likely some sort of injury) next season, Knicks can pay him nothing. Taking 4 year max right now is actually smart thing. Clowns who say just based off Derrick rose, also look at luol Deng and joakim Noah. Thibbs ran Noah In the ground and Knicks gave him that huge contract when he was all washed up. Luol Deng nearly died with that spinal tap thing.

    • @liferealgood
      @liferealgood Месяц назад +2

      Or 😂 instead of the worst case scenario with more personnel he can share the workload and prolong his career. Rose was really in Chicago as a one man scoring machine with a bunch of defensive players. Brunson has Randle, Mikal, and Donte who can all create. Hell even McBride can pop off for 17-20 in a pinch. Plus Brunson is more of a ground game scorer than a highlight reel Derrick Rose game. Knicks biggest issue was losing iHart who helped create from the high post or elbow. Other than that the offense is more shared.

    Knicks fkd up not making Hartenstein a priority. They done so good, up until that. I know it was hard, but I'd done everything I could have to moved Robinson. I think he would have resigned for much less to stay. At least 24 mil a year. Not having his tenacity at C, to set screens and pass while also being the most mobile big man in the league. Hartenstein is incredibly underrated and you can't put a value on players like him. I'd rather my Pacers signed him for 43 mil a year over Pascal. That's how much I like Hartenstein. OKC will be an absolute nightmare once Chet bulks up a bit. They honestly need one more creative good shooter.. But they also added Caruso and he's my favorite Combo/defensive guard in the league. They will be an absolute nightmare having that mobile interior big man D who can guard the perimeter and having Caruso/Dort on the outside with Jalen Williams and Shai.. OKC just became my favorite team in basketball.

    No one realizes how good the Naji Marshall signing was for the Mavs. They lost some leak out athleticism. But they gained a stronger defender in the half court and a more well rounded offensive player. His man defense is pretty solid and his I.Q all around is pretty good. I feel his consistency will only raise a bit also being that he's playing with Luka and Kyrie. Getting him will also allow a solid player who can play either the SF in his natural position, or SG when they need even more defense to play for Klay.. Then we gotta mention Klay too, because alone I don't really care as much for that signing. But when you look at everyone, Klay is very important. Because for one it wasn't much to add one of the most prolific scorers the game had seen.. and also you're getting a guy who has already came back down to earth. Who isn't going to cause problems if he has to sit. The Mavs will be even better and this has to be the quickest turn around. And by far the best execution of FA, the Draft and trades, after one of the biggest fumbles in history. I said even after they only had gotten Kyrie and Lively to not sleep on the Mavs.. and I was right. They've been coming out swingin ever since.

    Short answer, no. Brunson is a unique MVP caliber player. As others mentioned, this deal sets him up for life and avoids a potential Isaiah Thomas situation. For most supermax type players there is little risk of losing the bag, even if they do get a serious injury. For 6 foot second round picks, one serious leg injury could take all those max deals right off the table.
    Not saying nobody will ever do it, but it was a unique situation. It is not going to be the norm for millionaire hoopers to go out of their way to save billionaires a few bucks. It is still a union, after all. Most players see it as their duty to get the most money for their services.

    I believe it will help if the Knicks have a lot more success this year. I'd like to think it would set a precedence for some. Especially older Superstars. But unfortunately we all know greed is very strong amongst people and tomorrow is never promised. So it would most definitely have to be guy's who are confident in their ability to resign for more money in the future. It will also have to be guy's who have already had at least one max of 4 to 5 year's prior, or close to it. I doubt any great up and coming Star player would take a pay cut in their first contract. We all know many "Stars" who should because of money made already, or simply because they aren't worth that much.. Do you actually care about winning and the franchises future, or does the money itself mean that much to you?? That will have to be what both player's and organizations ask themselves in the future. Much more so than in previous year's. You make the wrong "Star" signings now in this era and your team is screwed.. Like my Pacers done with the crappy Pascal contract.. smdh... They have an owner who most likely not want to pay the tax ever.. so why pretend like you want to get better.. Pascal was not the guy and a panic trade. Had they waited, they'd gotten OG anyways. Or could have gotten Hartenstein and a couple of guy's like a Naji Marshall and a De'Anthony Melton. Then added Terrance Shannon Jr., JaKobe Walter and Jaylen Wells. They'd been much better off... I'd then took a gamble and traded Nembhard for Caruso.. Or at least someone. They'd had a very bright future had they made those moves..

      that's more the celtics losing it than the pacers winning it. regardless of if you agree/disagree with that assessment, it's 4-0. i think it's major copium if you think celtics don't have a higher notch than what they showed that series.

      no depth or offense. their depth is what played those playoffs series in the first place. have you heard of these things called i n j u r i e s? meaning they're not playing their best players. they're playing off their others guys who happen to be backups, who were also injured. i keep repeating it because it seems you refuse to acknowledge that that wasn't even their regular team construction.
      this as opposed to indiana and orlando who were nearly fully healthy.
      if you're trying to say they have no depth at specifically the 5 pos. you are right, but that's not what you're conveying. there's also midseason trades? which make way more sense than getting a center preseason in a dwindling market?
      they were #2 in off. rating in the playoffs only to indiana. what are you on about with the offense?
      i think indiana is a great team, but you're "clearly" overestimating them compared to the competition. good series, and even considering the leaps that young guys make, it's not 7 games we're talking when health is a little closer. that's just distillable fact. regardless, keep that same energy please.

      where are you even coming up with that number? he's losing $37m over the next 3 years or about $12.3m per year. the last year is a player option which he'll obviously decline.
      the idea is to get him to the 10 year mark and he can sign a salary as a % of the max. the cap is raising 8-10% per year. possibly more because the new TV deal is kicking in next year.
      that means that hypothetically if he's playing at this same level in 2-3 years he can sign another extension worth 35% of the max. it could be a proper 4-5 years which would recoup a large chunk of whatever he's taking a pay cut signing for now.
      and all that is not counting whatever the hell else he has access to for being a G in new york. unless you're a financial advisor to some really rich people, it really doesn't make sense to count player's money for them. to him he is taking the money, but also betting on himself and helping the team get as good as it can be.
