OMG, I almost spit out my water when you said, "if you break it off with him, he will give you a week or two and go off sulking and brooding, and then he will come knocking...they are very possessive." OMG I must have tried to break up with my Taurus 20 times in a year and he would never leave! After one or two weeks he would text or call and just reel me back in!
I've been breaking up with a Taurus for three years, and we have never had a relationship. SMH!
Miss Vee lol I left the one I was involved with totally alone. We had a relationship for 16 months. Had to cut off contact to help him understand I've moved on.
He didn't value me anyway like he should have. He tried to have me on the back burner and I don't play that. I still feel he's going to try and come back since it's only been about 3 weeks since I cut contact but 3 months since we broke up.
They have issues moving on and that's why you should never ever date a Taurus who is divorced like I did. Worst mistake of my life. A Taurus I dated years ago wasn't moved on from his baby mama even though they hadn't been living together or in a relationship for 5 years!
Taurus men are not for me (I'm a Scorpio). I also notice they like beautiful women, and go after them, but they tend to settle down wit not so attractive and not so smart women. They just try and sleep with, or constantly pursue the beautiful ones on the side, which may be why he kept coming after you (and definitely why mine kept coming after me despite being wrapped up with his ex-wife who is a cave troll, to say the least).
They settle for unattractive women with nothing really going for themselves because Taurus men are arrogant and like to feel superior over their women. A stunning woman would not allow them to feel superior except to be arm candy or a trophy wife but many of them do NOT treat women right. I read hundreds of pages about Taurus men and then are stubborn and only see things their way, unless they have another placement in their natal chart which nicely counteracts that.
Most of them aren't physically the best looking...often stocky, bald, shorter than 5'9, thick-necked, and overweight (every Taurus I have seen who is a Black male fits that description). The ones who are fairly attractive are super arrogant, and tend to be cheats.
They are bulls so they always keep a bunch of women around (cows) to rotate and sleep with. I smelled that off my ex Taurus when I first knew him and yet I didn't listen to my intuition.

A Gemini woman I once dated did a great job turning me off by constantly reminding of this ex of her's by always wearing this watch he gave her and he was married at the time they dated at that!!!
