that is one of the most beautifull radio's i have ever seen. when i was young i was mesmerized by the chrome and knobs . all the guys speaking over the air, in my country almost every radio is the small car variant. from midland or cobra.
Manufacturers have known for decades that this glue would be a life limiting factor for their products. In fact it works so well that many are still using it.

Another excellent job Mike. I believe the 2000 to be the best sounding cb base station ever produced in it's original price range. If a 2000 is working as it did when new very few CB's in that (original) price range will sound, and receive better (especially on SSB.) The one thing that has kept me from owning one is the style. I've heard it described as a piano Style. That's the only reason I went with a Uniden Madison. Imo the Madison's truditiotral styling is easier (imo) when operating the knobs. And for me easier to look at. I've no doubt the owner will be one happy camper with what most likely amounts to a new or better then new operating Cobra 2000. 73's
in reference to what you said about techs pushing mods on customers, it does work both ways. The same customer that tells one tech that they want this and that done to their radio will tell another tech that it's all garbage and that they don' t want it. for some reason, lots of folks change their attitudes toward a certain mod depending on the perspective of the tech they are speaking to.
I bought one used and getting divorced soon so ill have time to play with radios again . I do not know if it works, what would be the price for a full restore rebuild on this unit ....go with worse case so theres no surprises!!! thanks for the great videos
Mike, Any chance you can answer a question for me? Have a 2000 we're the clock keep resetting to 12:00. Any idea what the problem is? Was thinking a dirty or bad power switch? Any help would be appreciated 😃
Mike how are you excellent job on your videos and repairs I had a question I saw one of your videos where you added a diode in the frequency counter module to put seconds on the frequency counter clock I was wondering what is the value of that diode ? Thanks Jose

I have a Cobra 148GTL from 1992 that has never been turned on or hooked up and need someone to go through it and change out the caps and adjust for best performance.
I think that's funny about grounding crystals. What some people think about crystals! They think that all of them need to be grounded and have no knowledge about creating a capacitance when doing so.
It's for holding certain components in place and also used for stability/vibration issues that can cause frequency instability especially on ssb while running a radio mobile. Lots of cb and ham rigs have this crap in them and cause lots of problems. Kenwood ts440s is prime example.
Lights are always burned out. Hackers turn the power supply up to get more watts. It burns out the lights and destroys regulation which is critical in a sidebander.
Think ya could send me a copy of SAMS Photofact 265, J.C. Penney's 6241? And a schematic for J.C. Penney's 6247? I'd be glad to pay for photo copying and postage. I have both of these radios and need schematics for both. I want to modify for use on 10 meter band since I've gotten my Technician license. I also need to change all electrolytic caps in the radios.
the only reason to tie any of the cans together in a radio is when you need a place to connect the ground probe of your scope LOL. also, people are starting to wonder where you ran off to. hope everything is ok with you these days.

In had one of these radios. it was going up. it went to the edge of the ten meeter code band. it was flaky when it got there.
i just got one in sat ,, needs caps,, on off switch,, lamps ect ect they are old lol but great radios

I saw a guy put a channel king board in one of these. now that is really mood one of these out, but that is not a cobra two thousand.

If you had 25-30 years to wait for it to turn conductive you could use that glue to paint traces on a piece of board and create your own PCBs! ;-)
