I bought a 1985 900i in 2020 it was driving great until a couple of months in I went over a speed bump there followed a constant knocking noise at the back first of all I thought the anti roll bar link had broken but on investigation it was that panel the shock absorber had punched through the hole at the top I got the repair panel from bill at saabbits it seems to be a common rust area as it is a bit of a mud trap

7:50 I am not trying to make you suck eggs. Whenever I used to do work like that. I would spray WD40 and get a wire brush to clean the threads. Looking at the amount of underseal it seems like it would be clogged up my friend. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. Have a fantastic new year.

My parents always had Saabs & the steel was always crappy... Dad put aluminium tape on the brown rust holes on our white Saab 95 -64. Said it would outlast the car, he was probably right. I don't know why Sweden with it"s huge Iron/Steel industry only have managed to produce half-decent steel quality. Some lack of ambition or knowledge.... SSAB has some very impressive webpages about their Swedish automotive steel. But every nut&bolt was always rusted stuck on every Saab/Volvo i owned..
In Sweden, there were stories about VERY dissappointed british customers who drove their almost new, but rusty cars back to the import port and incinersted them in the parkin lot...
