So your title is talking about the brand itself not about any particular model. You then rant in your video about an old and almost discontinued model... not fair with MOFI. At the time you made your video they already had new models with many new features and speeds such as the MOFI5500. Your video is like ranting that my 2010 Ford Escape does not have Apple CarPlay and having a video with a title saying that I can't recommend FORD anymore...

Also, the use of 4g/5g systems as emergency backup connections is critical for business uses as well. The features and capability of your product has useful application in a business setting. The ability to switch towers is also great as in a situation where there is a line outage in the area of your business and you are competing for tower space you can grab the tower with lower congestion.
I would highly suggest making a similar product for use in business offices. It would be ideal if there was a product that works as follows:
    1) A version basically like what you have now that uses the strong antenna to get a decent cell signal inside the office building but instead of acting as a full router it has its software stack but is just a modem to present the internet connection to the business router the company already has. This is basically what you got now except running in a server room but with way way better reception than products like the NETGEAR 4G LTE Broadband Modem.
    2) A POE version that allows it to be placed anywhere! With this you could easy have an antenna run to the roof from the 1-2nd floor even on a 15+ story building. Or you could run it to be located near a window etc away from the server room.
    I wish you luck!

I'm with you on that. I think he could probably incorporate that into the current device software. I am personally liking the netgear boxes as well however they lack an update with more bands. Wish I could use it with Sprint/Verizon. The app + web Interface is a little lacking but it gets the job done.
All he really needs to do is implement some sort of IP pass-through and statically accessible management page kind of like cable modems.
Yeah there really needs to be an affordable modem sort of only box.
Comcast Business gave me this fancy black box from cradle point that doesn't exist elsewhere that takes an AT&T and Verizon Sim card picks the best one on boot, including an external antenna and is completely non-users configurable. It literally has two modes plug in and get Internet or plug Internet into the wan port and it will fail over but then you have no control of the IP space behind it.

saw your insty product on mobileinternetresource (so happy to see your industrious and entrepreneurial spirit we need more of this) and thought to mention/request a version with two usb ports - one for cellphone tethering over usb, this is underrated as some plans allow it without restriction so a good backup option if data caps are an issue

Very happy that I ran across this system on Mobile Internet channel. We are newbies to RV world. In fact, we won't receive our's until June / July. I want simplicity but a high-quality system as I have enough to learn as a newbie! Even though I have been in high-tech networking as my career, I know very little about cellular and don't want to know. My idea is to set it up and forget about it as I want to retire not to take on another project! Your system seems like it is made for me! I will follow your channel and make a decision in August or so! We won't need it until Q4 or 2022 Q1. Keep up with the development!

Nice idea... But for me, I have a few issues. 1) It really doesn't look highway speed ready. 2) I use a small Scamp with a mast, so I'd like to see a quick disconnect mount system I can mount on a mast that is easy to dismount and stow away. 3) As a boondocker, I'd also like to see some power consumption stats and range measures that link well to provider coverage maps (I know this is very hard to provide) as a proof of concept. Thanks for sharing though, as the market needs a lot of improvement.

Paul, the mount pole and wings are highway ready and have thousands of miles under them. The quick connect mount system you mention is exactly what we’re doing for our ‘binoculars’ directional antenna add-on we’re working on right now. Since the system is modular, it’s going to be plug and play. Stay tuned!

Additionally, there was not discussion on us tolerance. I suspect you’ll be getting some returns down the road. Still, the idea is good. Hope you have these issues covered.

Good concept, but let's talk about the elephant in the room.
The MoFi gets you about 60 Mbps for almost half the price of what your system gives, 80 Mbps by your brief single test. Call me bad, but I would want to see a lot more testing on this. Upload speed as well along with dB. And in your app, did you get licensed from Ookla to include their speed test? Or is it browser ported? Did you use open-source software? The app to me looks like a cobbled together of various apps. I'd like to see your listing of trademarks and patents. What about support? Software as well as firmware. There's so much you left out that it just seems like a DIY infomercial. I would caution anyone to pre-order or purchase it without extensive field testing and test results. What about FCC regulations? Perhaps it would be best to do an in-depth video on this thing before pushing it on the market. Also, did you actually build the router and the components or source them from like AliExpress?

Just got my Mofi5500 with the em7690 cat 20 modem and working super fast.
Just curious why you are not comparing the Insty Connect with this model?
The 5500 with the em7690 is $499.99 and yours is actually more at $549.99 and using a cat12 China modem with no band 71?
Went from 12 to 80 mbps when using the mofi
I did have an question about the speed band lock and called mofi this morning on Sunday and got a live person that helped with this
Was looking into the Insty Connect as an option before but I did not see any phone number on your site?
Do you offer free live person support as I see a $79 add on for support and warranty per year on your site and a bit confused what is that for?
Mofi offers free unlimited phone support 7 days a week which is great, do you offer that?
Would be great if you or someone can post a video of the mofi5500 with the em7690 side by side to see the speed difference as yours has a cat12 and the mofi has a faster cat20 and 4 cellular antennas which can make it very fast.

the max speed is 300 megabits so 300,00,000 divided by 8 gives you 37,500,000 bytes, divide that by 1024 to give you a computer KB, that's 36,621 Kilobytes (KibbiBytes) and divide again by 1024 to give you the speed in computer MB, thats 35.76 Megabytes (Mibibytes).
with overheads that's around 30MB/s you can also get dual channel that you can get around 60-65MB/s on.
with the LAN port being 100 megabit, that caps out at around 10MB/s with a theoretical max of 11.92MB/s and gigabit giving you 119.2MB/s with 2.5GB you get 298.023MB/s but you need to be cabled and have a 2.5GB network card.
oh and the speed shown on the speed test was 80Mbps which is 9.5MB/s

Great video. The software is NICE. I like dual sim capabilities and easy switch. So excited to get my preorder soon. We’ve planned a few trips in the next few weeks in NC that have had very spotty coverage and looking forward to testing. I’m probably going to start with an AT&T prepaid (I think 20 GB/month at $300/year). Also have Google Fi phone and may explore adding that also. I have another phone with Verizon 5G and should be able to do some comparisons on coverage. I’m stoked about the initial 4G modem and interested in 5G when that comes available. Can I use my current weboost and dual yagi antennas with Insty
What is the total current draw. I will run it through a battery back up.

    • @WeCanExploreIt
      @WeCanExploreIt  3 года назад

Felix, Yes, you can add your own VPN to IC.
Carrier aggregation combines 3 LTE bands from one single tower.
Weboost - no sorry, that won’t work.
Says 12v2a, but I’m guessing it’s less than 1a@12v unless you are really in the fringe zone.
5G+4g - no, not yet. We will be working on bonding, but that’s a secret for now :). If that’s the case, then you could possibly combine the 2 and then watch out!
That’s cool! I think the IC would be awesome for them too!
      Thanks for the questions!

From what I understand starlink is still in bata so you are sort of limited to a small subset of availability. It is also satellite Internet a'll be it at a lower altitude. From what I've seen the speed is really good. Curious what Amazon is going to come out with too.

    • @WeCanExploreIt
      @WeCanExploreIt  3 года назад +2

Starlink is satellite internet in lower orbit. It’s going to be a great option for those that can get it, but the word on the street is that it won’t be ‘Mobile’ for a while, meaning you won’t be able to move it around once it’s setup. The way I see it, there will be 2 wireless options - starlink and LTE. Starlink will help make LTE plans more competitive and will get rid of caps, etc. I hope to be the guy people think about when wanting to connect over 4g/5G :)

Then you type in a certain op in that same email. And fallow all the instructions they give you. If you did not get the email like we did, ask someone you know if they got the email; or ask mophi to send it to you. What you are doing is basically rebutting your 5g sem card.

I've have a MOFI box on my house with Wilson Log-periodic antennas pointed at the cell tower 3/4 miles away. Used to work pretty well, enough to stream movies, skype, use Teams, etc. for about 2 years.
After the recent SIM "Upgrade" it's been useless. 2.9Mbps download, 0.7Mbps upload (on a good day). Usually, Ookla speedtest fails the upload portion altogether. My cellphone as a hotspot sitting on the dining room table is able to download up to 89Mbps and upload 15Mbps with no external antenna. I've checked my antenna connections with a vector network analyzer, swapped with another set of antennas and coax without any gain. I've updated the firmware in the Mofi box, rebooted, cycled power, reset, etc. All the same result, crappy service. I'm not sure at this point why anyone would continue to pay for substandard service, I'm not going to.... Can't wait for my dishy to arrive

    I’m confused
You started out bringing a signal from the top of a hill to your RV down the hill through the trees
That worked and is what I need
This new system you built and brought to market seems like a real good signal booster ? /?
I will buy your unit if it can send the signal

When starlink goes fully live, why will we need this or any LTE router?

Not trolling. Would like an honest reply. Thanks.

@@donc0042 if you are stationary then Starlink will be a good option when it comes live for you. Starlink will be a game changer for sure. It will make a big difference for those that can’t get good internet now, but it will have its limitations, so I see LTE/5g as being around for a long time and Starlink helping by making the field more competitive. I think we’ll see much more unlimited/ uncapped plans when Starlink is generally more available

Thanks for the reply. I just bought a MoFi, before I saw your video.

@@WeCanExploreIt yeah they'll have to compete. Supposedly it's going to be usable in a mobile fashion. I don't know if that means it will work in motion currently during the beta program it's limited to cells but theoretically once that arbitrary limit is lifted I don't see going down the highway to be that much of a hurdle. Yeah they were both have their benefits and drawbacks for many years I suspect.

Does your router work with a GoogleFi cellphone (not data) sim and avoid hotspot limits?

What’s the type and length of antenna cable that you get with basic 4g order? Thanks in advance and the system looks great.

    • @WeCanExploreIt

It’s a custom USB cable that’s 15 feet long. You have the option of adding an additional cable to the order as well to make the max length 30’. Thanks!

I'm in Canada. If I order this at the end of March 2021 will, I be able to ok get a refund if this does not work when I receive it and install. I'd hate to order this only to find out in the end its useless to me.

I'm exploring options for use at home. My concerns: 1. USB modem connection. This limits cable length to 16ft, which is pushing the distance from my roof to my basement (and would force me to wall-mount the router instead of placing it in my equipment rack). Will this work with a USB extender? Have you tested this? 2. This would be providing broadband to an existing Unifi network with its own router and multiple wifi access points. Therefore, both the router and wifi functionality are unnecessary (I'd be disabling both) as long as I have a single gig-e port. So, is there any option contemplated for a modem plus ethernet bridge only? Or, is this just a poor fit for my use-case?

Yeah I know the frustration with that we really need more cellular modem ethernet bridges on the market. I will take a look at the netgear WWAN modem, although it does have the limitation of not being updated with the newer bands and not supporting Sprint /Verizon.
I'm curious of the same thing. another comment mentioned it is openwrt backend. and as somebody who has run with double NAT for a few years... It's not that bad if you don't have a public IP.

I'd like to get your product, but I need a 25 to 30 foot cable. Can I get a cable that long & will it work?

I would just like to get a solid connection at, at least 20mbps. I'm lucky if I'm getting 6-8mbps down reliably
